I should clarify something not exactly correct in my initial tweet. Ono currently does have tenure. However, his contract explicitly says he will lose his tenured position if he is fired for cause! So the logic I outline in the thread still follows.

U of Michigan won't give new president Santa Ono a faculty job if fired, breaking precedent

Mark Schlissel, the former president dismissed for an alleged inappropriate employee relationship, was allowed to keep his tenured professorship.
