I get so flabbergasted still at the DO bias. Michigan state literally has an MD and a DO program. It’s crazy how they can be taught by the same institution with the same resources and network, yet, several residencies wouldn’t interview the DO student or allow them to rotate.

Starting next year, ERAS will give a 60% fee reduction to certain financially-needy residency applicants. Look, lowering ERAS fees is a good thing. But for all the publicity it’s received, the actual number of dollars we’re talking about is… not many. (🧵)

I wish I would have cut back and enjoyed my life a lot more the summer between 1st and 2nd year. I worked a lot instead (extra money was nice to have for the nice vacation I did take tho) and research will always be available during the year. But this is your last summer ever!

I wish I would have set a time everyday that I was done. While my school has mandatory attendance until 4/5:30, I still should have stopped at 9pm every night for my sanity. And to have some balance. Watch a show, relax for an hour, it helps more than you think!

I wish I would have put more emphasis on the knowledge I was gaining rather than cram for a certain grade. While yes an A looks better than a B, I think I would have been better off board wise to stop panicking about every point on weekly exams & just learned the material well.

I went back home to rural Ohio/WV for my last couple rotations of medical school & being at a rural hospital rocks as a med student. I’ve got to do central lines, a lines, bronchoscopy, intubate, lumbar punctures, burr holes, etc. I feel better already going into intern year lol

I didn’t even know about the match when I applied to med school. I just thought you just trained in what you found out you liked and then that’s that. 😂 SURPRISE LOL. Residency was a shocker

When I applied to medical school, I had no idea how residency worked (even that they were different lengths of time), and I certainly had no idea how many hours I would work and how little time off I would have.
