I’m actually embarrassed of fellow humans who have used the murder of an innocent female as an excuse to gather in the park, without masks chanting hate
@metpoliceuk
and then blaming the police for being heavy handed! NOT shame on police- shame on you
#ClaphamCommon
Today in a+e I saw at least 3 staff crying from absolute breaking point (including me whilst apologising to the wife of a man dying in a noisy full to breaking dept)
Breaking point does’t begin to describe
#ED
today- what does the future hold?? At least it’s
#notacrisis
🙄
Right folks can anyone guess what’s going on here?
Some of you will never have seen this before, I certainly haven’t seen this for a while. It’s empty majors care spaces ready to receive patients direct from the ambulance without any delays to care, it was a beautiful sight! 🙌
Heard the most amazing thing today from a friend… her director of nursing holds ‘career chats’ with all senior nurses and asks where they see their career going, and how she can help. My friend is now starting a director of nursing scholarship… now that is great
#leadership
What is it with female nurses and doctors cutting about with their really long hair over scrubs and not tied up? I know I sound boring and old fashioned but we are in the middle of an infection control nightmare! 🙄
Found out today that I passed my
#masters
in
#advancedpractice
It certainly wasn’t a first class result but I am so chuffed to say it’s done but more importantly this final year Service Improvement Project was the inspiration for
@ededucate
and with this- we are just beginning!
My favourite quote from
#LineofDutyFinale
tonight was “how some people can fail upwards”
If only he knew- promotion to level of incompetence is a real life thing, I see it a lot! 🤦♀️
An ED nurse is not a job- it’s a career, a skill, a passion. It’s not turning up for 11.75 hours and completing tasks, it’s looking after patients. This job is not for anyone! Please care about your patients always! Empathy is hard in crowded depts but not impossible!
#TeamED
The government asking nurses ‘to seriously think about patient safety’
@RishiSunak
trust me when I tell you I’ve thought so seriously about patient safety over the last two years (we can call it worrying if you like) that it has made me unwell.
@theRCN
7 years ago today I left the RAF. A career that absolutely made me who I am today... sometimes right now in the

it feels no different to being on operations 😅
Here’s to whatever the next 7 brings!

Doorbell goes at 2am....
Literally s**t myself (ok not literally)
Get to window and see a man who says I have your purse- he found at fuel station he found my address on DL and hand delivered
Didn’t catch his name... what a kind man can we RT this

A chest xray is not the correct test if you are looking for rib fractures.
Thanks for coming to my TED talk.
But seriously how do we get this message across and standardise practice.
On the train with about 8 young lads off to start
@RoyalNavy
basic training... I know that and so does the whole carriage. They have been loud, swearing and very cocky and I don’t think they have any idea what they are about to go through! Good luck to the team at Raleigh! 😲
What a day….
@RCollEM
for the

What’s next? 🤟
Today I said to my consultant.... all I ask for is one day when I’m not the enemy of the rest of the hospital. Today I had the phone put down on my only once! Please don’t forget there is a patient in the middle of all your strops. Be nice pleeeasee

#Netflix
have relaunched Bodies (2004) about a hospital unit with some very good examples of bad culture and bad behaviour by both clinical teams and management. It was 2004…. But I cannot help wonder why it is suddenly in the top 10?
What are peoples thoughts? Any realism?

Two things… everyone asking “what about patient safety” the current NHS delivery of care is not safe, that is without striking!
This is actually not about pay overall, it’s about working conditions, if we pay more this will improve.
@theRCN
When did we all get so mean? I mean healthcare wide! We question, undermine, belittle each other. Why? I am genuinely interested in what people who behave like this gain?
I genuinely think civility has reached an all time low in the NHS! What are others experiencing?

, pondering what has become of Emergency Medicine. I know this is not new knowledge and it’s been bad for a while but I honestly don’t know how much more people can take.. how will we have a workforce left… right now is the hardest my job has ever been!
Can we all please remember that no matter what speciality you are, we are all in the long chain that has one thing in common- the patient!
The more time spent focusing on other colleagues in the chain the less focus on the patient! Lets work together for better

Well good morning and Happy Easter!
Just seen the last patient in Paeds ED after quite a busy shift, and I pause and saw this sunrise 🌅
This is not a tv or a picture, this is an actual window in ED… I know
🥰
#TeamED
#Nightshift
Deciding whether we should use mechanical CPR is not based on outcomes- it’s not are they better it’s are they as good as human hands- yes, do they get tired- no, can they carry on in a moving ambulance- yes does this mean I can do other important tasks- yes.
#nobrainer
“That’s not our job”
I overheard a nurse explaining to a junior nurse bloods aren’t our job and the doctors only see one patient at a time so they should do them.
🤔
I followed up with they are the patients bloods and if needed should be done as soon as possible
#OneTeam
Just finished 3 nights- so much Covid and I’ll be honest they’ve been hard shifts!
Driving home so many cars on the road and busy streets! I don’t get it!
Folks please stay at home unless you need to go out, wash your hands and don’t go to ED unless it’s an

Well it’s official… paid… and by Sunday evening it will be completely out of my hands!

Do you know what breaks me the most about ED (2019)- working your [insert body part] off for 12 hours doing the most for the most and then you hear the way some people talk to the staff and it makes everything feel worthless.
Dear public- we are working hard to fix this ☹️
This is a fantastic Paed Arrest
#Checkist
Remember scooping that child to hospital as soon as you can is not the best thing for survival- resuscitation in a moving ambulance is very difficult.
Optimise and treat the arrest as you would do adults.

I’ve worked for. Invest in your team! Love and Education!
@chrisodedun
Don’t pick up that last ‘quick patient’ because you think that’ll be the thing the tips the dept into favour. Instead do a good job of tidying up, handing over and reflect on the day etc/debrief. In other words put as much effort into leaving well as you do arriving!
I have been interim matron of
@UHP_NHS
ED for three weeks now. It’s means I get to work with a really awesome team. We have been pushing compliance to hourly obs/safety checklist and yesterday the fab nursing team made this...

Yesterday was a whole new EM experience, I was assessing patients on ambulances, spent a lot of my shift outdoors and even had to cross a reasonably busy road. So who says PHEM has to be HEMS 🤪
#NewAgeEM
@pkonline84
Hey just an ED person saying 👋🏼 let’s not fall out. It’s not us (on the most part) who are GP bashing. Like your world there will be some bad eggs in my world too. Keep doing what you do.

Nurses in ED
Undress your patients into a gown, especially if they are in resus. I understand things are different and the question is, if the patient then ends up in a corridor etc but that isn’t a reason not to undress in the first place- trust me you will miss things!
@traumacareuk
conference today - sitting in the “Dilemmas in EM program” today. Currently

I have read this poster so many times, I’ve taught it to others and heard
@orangedis
talk about many times! Last night on my 2nd of 3 nightshifts I properly felt it, I lost my ability to make decisions because of how someone made me feel. I am just so bored of the NHS culture!

@JohnnyMercerUK
Feeling a bit gutted at the people who have decided to not follow the

advice and just go out in the sun- meanwhile I’ve been in ED all day ...... there has been quite a few sick patients.
But as long as YOU enjoyed your day that is ok... get a grip people!
Hey 👋
@Dawn_French
I read you utterly amazing piece about
@UHP_NHS
and how it felt being a on the other side? We (me and one of intensive care educators) have just started a learning podcast. Would you do one with us on how it feels being in that position and how we can learn?
You know what bothers me the most ...people who who don’t know what they don’t know and those who don’t ask for help? In the current health care system and especially EM there is a lot of room for error and harm if we don’t ensure training standards are met for all? 🧐
First of many trips to

Wish this image was around when I was learning dermatomes..
Think of this position & they become sooooo logical and easy and to remember!!
We must put something like this in the next edition of Gray's Surgical Anatomy
Today I challenged 3 people about

said nothing but acted
#3
thanked me for the feedback 😊

Finishing pretty late after shift is common these days, a combination of not enough folk to truly handover to/feeling safe to just walk out… anyway getting home to this face definitely makes post shift better right now. ED is tough right now 😓
#kaizenpup
What an absolutely fantastic opening talk at

Sad at points as we recognise the inefficiencies in our daily ED care but the final slide sums up our wish.
Is it really an impossible dream??

@RCollEM
If that shift was a measure of what’s to come in 2024 then I can only pray for us all! Moral injury doesn’t even come close to the things I saw today in a UK ED.
