Today in a+e I saw at least 3 staff crying from absolute breaking point (including me whilst apologising to the wife of a man dying in a noisy full to breaking dept) Breaking point does’t begin to describe #ED today- what does the future hold?? At least it’s #notacrisis 🙄

Right folks can anyone guess what’s going on here? Some of you will never have seen this before, I certainly haven’t seen this for a while. It’s empty majors care spaces ready to receive patients direct from the ambulance without any delays to care, it was a beautiful sight! 🙌

Heard the most amazing thing today from a friend… her director of nursing holds ‘career chats’ with all senior nurses and asks where they see their career going, and how she can help. My friend is now starting a director of nursing scholarship… now that is great #leadership

Found out today that I passed my #masters in #advancedpractice It certainly wasn’t a first class result but I am so chuffed to say it’s done but more importantly this final year Service Improvement Project was the inspiration for @ededucate and with this- we are just beginning!

#Netflix have relaunched Bodies (2004) about a hospital unit with some very good examples of bad culture and bad behaviour by both clinical teams and management. It was 2004…. But I cannot help wonder why it is suddenly in the top 10? What are peoples thoughts? Any realism?

Deciding whether we should use mechanical CPR is not based on outcomes- it’s not are they better it’s are they as good as human hands- yes, do they get tired- no, can they carry on in a moving ambulance- yes does this mean I can do other important tasks- yes. #nobrainer

“That’s not our job” I overheard a nurse explaining to a junior nurse bloods aren’t our job and the doctors only see one patient at a time so they should do them. 🤔 I followed up with they are the patients bloods and if needed should be done as soon as possible #OneTeam

Just finished 3 nights- so much Covid and I’ll be honest they’ve been hard shifts! Driving home so many cars on the road and busy streets! I don’t get it! Folks please stay at home unless you need to go out, wash your hands and don’t go to ED unless it’s an #emergency

This is a fantastic Paed Arrest #Checkist Remember scooping that child to hospital as soon as you can is not the best thing for survival- resuscitation in a moving ambulance is very difficult. Optimise and treat the arrest as you would do adults. #Basicsdonewell

My first boss in the #NHS said she doesn’t get upset when people leave as they may come back, that’s more likely If you continue to be a good #leader during their leaving phase. She was right, and one of the best #leaders I’ve worked for. Invest in your team! Love and Education!

@chrisodedun Don’t pick up that last ‘quick patient’ because you think that’ll be the thing the tips the dept into favour. Instead do a good job of tidying up, handing over and reflect on the day etc/debrief. In other words put as much effort into leaving well as you do arriving!

Yesterday was a whole new EM experience, I was assessing patients on ambulances, spent a lot of my shift outdoors and even had to cross a reasonably busy road. So who says PHEM has to be HEMS 🤪 #NewAgeEM

Nurses in ED Undress your patients into a gown, especially if they are in resus. I understand things are different and the question is, if the patient then ends up in a corridor etc but that isn’t a reason not to undress in the first place- trust me you will miss things!

D Day came on two levels today I finished 7 day isolation + I did my first ever #triathlon - the #dartmouth triathlon by @SportivaEvent where I made my making with #hills 😓 It was really hard and so hot today but I am so proud to have finished it! Now for a beer!

Tonight’s episode of #GPsBehindClosedDoors is in memory of Peter Wilkinson, who, despite battling terminal prostate cancer, still took some freshly picked tomatoes in for @DrAmirKhanGP when he visited the surgery. What a truly incredible guy.

Today I challenged 3 people about #ppe use in ED. Mask tucked under chin and lots of touching face pulling mask up then down etc. #1 told me the rules must have changed and he thought he was right 😬 #2 said nothing but acted #3 thanked me for the feedback 😊 #PPEdrills

Finishing pretty late after shift is common these days, a combination of not enough folk to truly handover to/feeling safe to just walk out… anyway getting home to this face definitely makes post shift better right now. ED is tough right now 😓 #kaizenpup

Actual conveation at work Nurse- I’ve always wanted to join the military Me- You should it’s awesome Nurse- I can’t there are way to many emails- I couldn’t deal with all those emails Yes yes it’s definitely the emails that are the biggest challenge 😂😂😂
