I moved back to Dubai just over a year ago. In all honesty, I was pretty broken, and I almost ended up leaving in November. A twist of fate kept me here, and I’m still standing a year later. I have a lovely apartment, I’m healthy (I hope), and my life is good.

@GeorgeMonbiot Yup, also tell that to us Mediterranean folk where wildfires are increasingly becoming the norm. My family and I had to evacuate our home and village just over a week ago because of a fire that subsequently destroyed all of the natural beauty in the area.

My grandad died peacefully in his sleep early hours of this morning. Just before this pic was taken 5 years ago, he came over, hugged me, and said I love you. That's when I knew he had started to lose his fight with Alzheimer's.

I went to a ("socially distanced") event. There was live music and beer and faces I've never seen before. There was laughter. And there was a pizza collection on the way home (first pizza in 10 WEEKS). I felt NORMAL for the first time in ages. I'm going to bed happy a happy lady.

I've found an apartment I love and I'm signing today! This is, indeed, a beautiful new beginning. It's taken me three damn years since a really bad time in my life to feel comfortable enough to make such a commitment, so I'm feeling extremely happy and proud of myself right now.
