There are layers of education needed, regarding Muskovy's cultural appropriation of its neighbors over the centuries. Appreciate the thread, but please acknowledge the ethnic roots of this artist. Ukrainians are working very hard to recover all that Muscovy has looted from them.
Completely wrong,
@amnesty
, it is not Ukrainian forces that put civilians in the harm’s way, it is
#Russia
that started unprovoked aggression against
#Ukraine
and is routinely killing thousands of innocent Ukrainians, let’s investigate acts of Russian genocide against Ukrainians
Can you believe? My Latvian grandparents were closet historians, like me. They saved *everything* from their life in the Displaced Persons (DP) camps: 1946-1951. This is their 'DP box'.

I counted Five Russian Embassies that retweeted that Czech post. One of the Retweets is the Russian Embassy in Latvia. Which, when it looks out of its window, now, sees more art:

For those who doubt, every Baltic person recognizes the USSR playbook. Jump to page 28, for example for some description of those Estonian mass deportations (snapshot). Scroll through the book to find more (EE/LV/LT).
@JayinKyiv
russia was running influence operations in the Baltics throughout the 1990s too.
In 🇱🇻Latvia, the 2-yr 'negotiations' of the Red Army withdrawal was about fixing 5th column of 700K russian Occupiers and 100K Red army so-called pensioners in the country.
@JensWalter12
@kaya_bala3
Essentially: The 3 yr 'negotiations' was an intelligence operation to fix in Latvia ~100K red army personnel 'pensioners' and 700K Occupants in Latvia for influence operations. It didn't have much to do with Skrunda or care about pensioners (who were 40-50 years old).
How many Ukrainian lives were lost while US Congress got hijacked by pro-Kremlin mouthpieces these last months? And US reputation loss?
Now the Eastern part of Europe understands that depending on the US carries a significant security risk for their own countries' democracies.
Russian state TV claims that Russia has been at war with the U.S. for 80 years. Propagandists compare America to a "medieval leper" that is trying to infect the rest of the world and suggest "exterminating Western parasites with chemicals or ice axes."

@TomMostlyZen
Yes.
If the Russians are not allowed to retreat, from the commanders' instructions, and the Russians do not surrender, then the Ukrainians must kill them. And so they did.
"...just because you don't want to upset one person on the day of his speech" Grozev's transcript said.
On Monday, my dad turns 93.
He has lived 74y in the USA.
My Latvian-fluent (1st in our family, much better than me) teenager (Vija) spoke to her grandfather in Latvian during our month-long visit.
She told me this of his language skills:
Today my daughter received her 2nd shot! One of the first 12 year olds in Latvia to complete her covid vaccination. What a long pandemic road we've travelled thes past 15 mos.
I'm also happy to see so many teens (2/3 of the clients) at the BKUS vaccination center this morning.

If you know russia, they are both true.
Ceasefire will be used to build military resources to continue brutal aggressions against Ukraine, while upping their current hybrid war against their next-near-neighbors to a new level.

Part of 1953 Testimony to US Congress, Kersten Committee, from last surviving member of free Latvia's government, Alfreds Berzins, Latvian Minister of Public Affairs 1934-1940. He lost his wife and children to the USSR June 13-15, 1941 deportations, while he was in a Nazi prison.
@BadBalticTakes
There is an interactive map of the names and ages tied to their address of those who were deported from Latvia. Go to the drop down menu on the left and choose 1941. gada 14. jūnijs, then move around on the map with the zoom feature for addresses. Riga:
My 🇱🇻dad was only 10yo when this happened, but now at 93 yo, and after living in the 🇺🇸 for 70years, this June 14th date is one that my father will never forget. It was also the main driver for Graps family to leave 🇱🇻in 1944.
