My heart goes out to the non binary kid at the centre of the Enoch Burke case. All they wanted was to be treated with respect and be accepted in their school community. Instead they find themselves at the centre of a media storm
Forget Emily in Paris give me Emily in Ennis.
I'm all about those American girls making tiktoks about how different living in Ireland is because we say half 2 instead of 2.30
A guy started saying Nazi shit to me on aungier Street yesterday. It was weirdly unthreathening. Mostly because as he was walking away from me backwards sig heiling he tripped on a bag of trash
Like trust me as tempting as it is to make fun of Enoch, he's a man that's so religious he definitely showers in speedos, centering him in this is exactly what he wants. He was raised to be a martyr of hatred. The kid deserves all of our support.

Heard a family discussing whether I was a man or a woman in German today. Dropped "Ich bin ein Frau" as I walked away from them. The look of confusion and horror on their faces was delightful. Then I realised I used ein instead of eine and I had misgendered myself 🤷♀️
Lads Facebook is rebranding. Do you know what that means? We're all officially so old that we're gonna get yelled at our kids for calling social media by it's old name
I needed the money. I said not to worry and did the gig. This is how the comedy world works. I failed that night and by doing that gig I effectively endorsed a guy who I knew hurt my friend. I will never do that again and as a scene we need to be better
Lads if you find and remove homophobic/racist/transphobic graffiti or stickers. Please don't share images of em online. Your just amplifying the intended effect.
So now all the stuff around the Achill festival has died down a bit. Can we all have a discussion about how someone went from helping organise a trans only comedy gig to terf in 4 years. Very worrying that someone can have so many trans friends and then become a terf
I've worked a bit with the Irish Times over the last couple of years and been featured on their pages and podcasts. There are journalists I respect there and believe to be allies. However it's become clear that the paper itself has become willing to platform transphobia. 1/2
I don't even have words. How
@IrishTimes
could print a letter implying trans women are porn-obsessed predatory fetishists?
These letters and articles have been happening for a while, but for them to print something so outwardly vicious and hateful? Jesus Christ.
I honestly don't know where to start with the stories of the rampant Transphobia that exists within Irish comedy. Every single trans comic here has dozens of stories of the shittiness they've encountered and I'm done biting my lip. /1
idk personally as a trans comic if i see sb doing jokes where trans identities are the joke i just assume that person sees me as, in some way, inferior or subhuman - that they don't believe showing me respect is important
i have yet to be proved incorrect
Comedy people! A project I was working on recently got dismissed out of hand for funding because comedy isn't considered art by the government. This was despite the project having letters of reference from arts organisations and about to have its second run in an arts fest 1/
I keep seeing people call for greater Garda presence and hate crime legislation. That won't work. When I was assaulted two guards openly laughed in my bloodied face. They are effected by the same cultural forces as our assailants.
As a trans comedian, it's always weird when a comic like Norm or Sean Locke dies. As a comedian you look up to them but as a trans person you're incredibly aware of the harm they have caused your community. I mean they didn't view me as human but on the other hand they were FUNNY
Whenever I'm feeling low in confidence I try to channel a Trans woman I saw J-walk in NYC. She got beeped at and without missing a beat just shouted out "oh no honey I don't do that sort of work no more" before turning to me and giving me a knowing smirk and a wink.
So a load of fash scum are giving Shubhangi abuse. One of them asked me how they enriched Ireland. The answer is complex and long but basically boils down to this. They're incredibly sound and they're an amazing activist who works to make Ireland a better place.

I wish Ireland had more community for the South Asian diaspora
I’m really sick of having to look at my life through a white lens
with my Indian identity and culture in the retrospective -
a small sad part of me I’m encouraged to disavow
I don't find Ricky Gervais offensive as a trans person. I find him offensive as a comedian. Last time we saw timing that bad it let Mussolini come to power
There's an Irish comic all over my twitter feed today. Several Irish comics have told me their stories involving him. One of whom was underage at the time. I just want to say I believe them
So Queer Spaces... What do we want from them? How do we create them? How do we keep them safe? Accents is gone and I hate the George. Let's channel this energy into creating a post covid space that we want
Breaking News: FINA, the international swimming federation, announced Sunday that it is barring transgender women from competing in women's competitions if they have gone through male puberty.
It's definitely time we got our acts together as a community to request the same amount of support that Theatre, music etc receive. There's an amazing club scene thriving in Ireland but longform comedy isn't getting the same opportunity to thrive 2/
You hear a lot about comedians being "truthtellers" but the greatest irish comedy truth teller is
@sorobotic
and she made the scene safer for so may other irish women
Ahead of Dispatches, everyone should listen to
@sorobotic
on Elis James and John Robins' podcast talking about the prominence of sexual abuse in the comedy industry
The exploitation by promoters and performers alike needs to be stopped
#Dispatches
@darachos
Irish comedy had never been stronger. Loads of online comedians and 100s of stand up comics too. There's a real lack of pathways onto TV. There's people working in the industry trying to change that though.
The worst thing about the Trans health scare scandal is that moving to an informed consent model would actually free up resources. We're in a lose/lose situation
You don’t have to be trans to fight for trans healthcare.
If this was an area of healthcare that didn’t only cater to the marginalised, it would be front page news.
#TransHealthcareNow
Aidan Moffitt and Michael Snee. Say their names.
When
@BeckyCheatle
and I made punchline we drew on personal experience. Street harassment and violence has been on the rise for a long time. Hell a guy even openly zieg heiled me on the streets last summer. /1
Getting in on the 5 years thing.
On the left I'm at the european kayak championship a complete depressed mess who's egg was about to crack. on the right I'm at the most comfortable I've ever been with who I am and how I fit into the world.
Basically what I'm saying and what a lot of us have been saying for a while is we need to organise ourselves and petition to be included in the arts act
@StreetSpirit1
sent me this Norm quote "God bless trans people. They should be given every right in the world, and anybody who wants to hurt them is bad". Turns out people are never black and white and can evolve 🤷♀️
Watching cartoons with my kid and George Washington comes on screen.
8yo: boo he's evil!
Me: why is he evil?
8yo: dunno. All American presidents are evil
A good chunk of the paid gigs in irish comedy are run by people who have allegations against them. Also there's a good chance at a lot of clubs you will find you're on a lineup with a comedian that has allegations against them. It's harder and harder to make a living safely here
Hey I'm looking to do a work in progress tour of my new comedy hour. I'm sick of the men who run comedy clubs so I'm gonna do house shows. So if you want me to come do a show in your house for you and your friends hit me up
OK real talk. How do we get people to engage more with the Irish Times boycott? What's our game plan? Right now it's just denying trans people and our allies opportunities. For our praxis to be effective we need strategy and goals
Our Edinburgh run is over!
From Irish unity to fucking ghosts we solved a hell of a lot fo problems. Thanks to everyone who came to see our shows. Special thanks to the two Finlays and all the staff at
@underbellyedinburgh
for looking after us.

The HSE are killing Trans people. The whole Irish healthcare system is failing Trans people. I can say this without fear of reprisal because I'm outside of the system. They can't "lose my file" or threaten to cut off my treatment because I'm speaking out like they have to others.
As upsetting as the whole atn terf incident was. I think we can all take comfort in allies coming through for the trans community. There's a lot more cis people taking public stands against the platforming of hate.
Fionn had to leave the country to access surgery during a pandemic. That's on the hse not on him. It's a damning indictment of Trans healthcare in this country
I’ve 0 tolerance for people saying to me ‘your surgery wasn’t essential you could have waited’ honestly no I couldn’t have because I’ve lived everyday in my body with disgust and pain. There’s no healthcare in Ireland for trans people so telling me it’s my fault I’m sick is a no
Hey Twitter! We're CSS- a new organisation campaigning to create a safer and more inclusive comedy scene in Ireland. Can't wait to share more about our work and our exciting fundraiser for
@DublinRCC
#BigLaugh4DRCC
Lads the transphobes have discovered the
@TG4TV
tweet of the trans pride flag. They're giving out about it in English in an Irish language space. Nothing like watching colonialism in real time
Actually fuck it. Tell the Irish trans people you know that you'll be their accomplices. We've a 3-5 year waiting list and no legal recognition for non binary people or trans youth.

One of the most upsetting things is that this was inevitable. The rise in hate has been ramping up the last few years. The number of friends I have that have been assaulted is growing. We've been doing nothing to stop it. Its truly worrying
