AK Dems had a damn pretty great night. We’re *likely* set to: Re-elect Mary Peltola Add 2 Dems to the State Senate and form a Bipartisan Coalition And most likely keep the House Majority Coalition intact (assuming mail ins put Mears/Eischeid over the finish line). Wow.

In Alaska, we likely know 3 things going into Wednesday's RCV count: Rep. Peltola (D), Sen. Murkowski (D), and Gov. Dunleavy (R) will be re-elected House stands at 20 D/I - 19 R, with 1 race likely in the air til RCV Senate is 9D - 11R with a VERY likely Bipartisan Coalition.

A peek into why November looks decent for Peltola: Between 2010-2020, there was an average D+15% shift between the primary and the general. In midterm years, that shift is D+19%. Your more average voter, who hates Palin even more than this electorate, will turn out in November.

If Peltola survives 2024, there will be incredible pressure for her to challenge Sullivan in 2026. It is much more important to hold that House. I think seeing that requires recognizing how effective Don Young really was for most of his career.

A good reminder that Alaska has changed a LOT (🔵+21%) in 22 years. Peltola might not win this time, but she has a decent shot in November and will set the stage for Democrats to fight hard for an incremental shift to the left over the decade.

It looks like Peltola (D) v Palin (R) for November. As opposed to Nick, Palin does far worse against Peltola based on (pretty accurate) polling. That's because: a) Palin is less liked among general voters than GOP base voters b) Begich voters skipping their 2nd rank

Peltola outran Biden in every single House District, especially in Anchorage, the Bush, and Juneau. To win an outright majority ( #BlueAlaska !), we must: Keep Fairbanks under R+10 Keep the Kenai Peninsula under R+25 OR Mat-Su under R+40 Win Anchorage by 10-12 = 50%+1!

Wondering whether Biden should take a trip to Anchorage during the 2024 campaign. You know, not because he can win it, or that it’d be worth much even if he did (3 electoral votes), but for the sake of the Dems’ longterm prospects, which look surprisingly decent there.

If you had told me just a few years ago that Alaska would be holding its 1st ranked choice vote in 2022, I wouldn’t have believed you. RCV has been one of my favorite electoral reforms since researching it for debate in high school. Pretty fuckin’ cool that it’s our reality now.

Guessed the exhaustion rate right at 20%. Palin is extremely unpopular and Republicans uniquely distrust RCV. This was bound to happen, I just didn't think Peltola win over so many Begich voters! Nearly 29% of them!

@alaskalandmine @thebluealaskan I don’t even know who you are anymore, dude. This is so reckless, and knowing that you’re willing to endanger someone’s life to make a profit is no favor to anyone but yourself. Again, you are putting a red target on the back of someone who receives death threats. On the daily.

i haven’t felt this sick over an election since the vote on the bathroom bill in 2018. it makes me sick to think we are even close to electing such a repugnant, unqualified liar in our own community 🤢

Jamie Allard can hold as many public testimonies as she wants. Alaskans everywhere see HB105 for what it is: a hateful bill that forcibly outs LGBTQ youth. Thankful for @rep_jennie , @RepCarrick , and @rep_gray for engaging literally hundreds of people in testimony.

I don't think folks realize just how long @lisamurkowski has been fending off challenges from her own party. Nancy Dahlstrom, now Dunleavy's Lt Gov pick, challenged her in a closed primary after getting drawn into a more conservative state house seat. Lisa won by just 57 votes.

Gov. Dunleavy has chosen Republican Thomas Baker to replace Independent Josiah Patkotak in HD40. Baker ran against Sen Donny Olson (D) in 2020 and lost by +15. In the same year, Patkotak beat Elizabeth Ferguson (D) by +5. Biden +7.

The conservative outcry will repeat that tonight was not a normal process. Do not forget that the same folks have obstructed these hearings and have actively refused to allow the body to even take a vote on this. None of this has been normal at all.

Starting now, I want to know what every single person running for Alaska’s special congressional seat will do to protect federal abortion rights. For the progressives: will you vote against any federal abortion bans? @Constant4Alaska @SantaClausforAK @MaryPeltola @DrAlGrossAK

At this point, Mayor Bronson's demise is all but inevitable. Whether that come from resignation or voters themselves is up for debate. But this isn't the Trump era anymore; you can't bury this stuff and think voters won't care a year down the road.

We will need to fight to keep #RCV in Alaska, given the likely ballot measure to repeal it in '24. Claims of undemocratic outcomes will be their key strategy. We *must* remind voters that: 1. Alaskans found RCV easy to use 2. RCV empowers voters over political parties (key)

I have to say: @Gara_4_Governor was really on his A-game last night at the debate. Watch how Gara is using his responses to BOTH cover for Walker and attack Dunleavy at the same time. Then redirects it back towards the issue for him.

Chair LaFrance has ruled that assembly members and the mayor cannot ask questions to those testifying for the remainder of testimony. Allard is nervously challenging with bad-faith legal concerns, but the Chair has absolute authority here. Demboski makes a free speech challenge.

🚨The top Alaska State House race to focus on next year⬇️ This district is moving left fast and close to flipping: Trump won it by 11 in 2016 and then 2.5 in 2020. In the final round of RCV, Peltola won it by *18*, while Denny came just *11 votes* short. #akleg
