My first job out of law school was at the Office of Public Advocacy. While there in 2013, I testified before the Legislature in favor of de-felonizing certain low-level, nonviolent drug offenses. Today, almost exactly ten years later, I was sworn into the Alaska State Senate.

I have now heard from two subject matter experts in the last month that perhaps the greatest risk factor for sex trafficking in Anchorage is the vulnerability of homelessness. And yet some of those who claim to care the most about sex trafficking do not support housing programs.

In the just-over four months that Dave Bronson has been in power, the number of Anchorage residents who have died of COVID doubled from the previous year and a half, despite the existence of a vaccine. Many of those deaths are the direct result of his policy choices.

I continue to believe that the Department of Elections decision to wait a full week before starting this count, instead of counting the ballots as they came in or on election night, was a disservice to Alaskans.

Genuinely heartened by how many emails we've gotten in opposition to Bronson's proposal (which we're voting on tonight) to turn the Municipal Clerk into an elected position. Glad people are paying attention to this issue.

During his mayoral campaign, Dave Bronson claimed that he would cut 5 to 8% of the Municipality's budget. We pointed out at the time that cuts of that magnitude would be devastating to the delivery of services to the people of Anchorage and that his "plans" weren't real. 1/5

Last night I attended a celebration of life for my friend, former Attorney General John Havelock, who drafted Alaska's constitutional right to privacy. That provision is more important than ever today, as it secures the right to an abortion & thus basic bodily autonomy in AK.
