I don't even know where to begin. Incredibly embarrassing by the NFL and the refs. In two weeks, we've seen far too many blasphemous calls against the Chargers and that one may take the cake.
I hung out with Kittle in college freshman year. We had just got back to the crib and passed out. Out of nowhere, Hitchens, Christian Kirksey, and two other players barge in the house, crank the music, and start pegging us with footballs.
Niners by a million.
TE Gerald Everett told media in training camp that the Chargers were expected to use him on jet sweeps and other gadget plays which had him very excited to play in this offense.
He ended the season with one carry for zero yards ๐
Here are the top-4 offenses in the NFL in terms of total yards per game along w/ avg. PPG:
1. Cardinals - 422.0 (29.3)
2. Chargers - 420.0 (25.6)
3. Seahawks 415.0 (34.3)
4. Chiefs - 409.0 (31.8)
The Chargers win over the Raiders on Sunday was the first victory in Justin Herbert's 4+ years as a pro in which he did not have a single receiver exceed 40 receiving yards.
That's a Jim Harbaugh stat if I've ever seen one, too.
Tua Tagovailoa and where his top-2 pass-catchers rank in receiving yards: Hill (1st) and Waddle (2nd)
Joe Burrow: Tee Higgins (4th) and Ja'Marr Chase (6th)
Justin Herbert: Gerald Everett (T-45th) and DeAndre Carter (T-45th)

overall OL grades from PFF in 2020:
Sam Tevi - 52.9
Forrest Lamp - 49.4
Dan Feeney - 48.2
Trai Turner - 34.8
Bryan Bulaga - 61.6
Tough to see how the 13th-overall pick isn't going to be used on OL.
A grade adjustment by
@PFF
: TE Donald Parham is now the highest-graded offensive player for the Chargers from their win over the Colts with a near-elite 89.1 overall game grade.
The
#Chargers
are expected to receive 4 compensatory picks in 2022, according to Over The Cap.
The picks stem from the contracts signed by Tyrod Taylor, Sam Tevi, Dan Feeney, and Denzel Perryman in free agency.

DE Leslie OโNeal was named by CBS Sports as the best player from the franchise not yet to be inducted into the Pro Football Hall-of-Fame. (
@BryanDeArdo
)
OโNeal ended his career w/ 132.5 sacks, tying Lawrence Taylorโs mark.
Chiefs fans upset about a penalty at their own 10 yard line with under a minute left.
Absolutely no where near the potential impact as the non-"defensive holding" called on Bryce Callahan.
According to overall grades from
@PFF
, Jerry Tillery is the third worst-graded iDL (
#114
) out of 116 qualifying players (31.0) thru 2 weeks. Linval Joseph is
#112
with a grade of 34.1.
The Chargers currently start two iDL in the bottom five of the NFL. This is less than ideal.

CB Chris Harris Jr. believe he and Michael Davis played "A+" games against the Bills.
They combined to allow 4 catches on 7 targets for 31 yards and an INT.
Boy, I am FEELING for Joey Bosa, right now. My heart hurts for this man. The game of his life came in the ugliest outing of the season.
His stat line: 8 tackles, 6 TFLs, 3 sacks, 1 PD, 1 FR. 5 QB hits
My wife got me so good by not being there when I woke up on April Fools Day. Five years later she's still pranking me to this day haha. Come back, Sharon.
I'm baffled by the opinions being thrown out there regarding Bosa's comments towards Carr.
Bosa spoke the most-commonly used sentiment from a pass-rusher about an opposing QB: "We knew if we hit him enough, he'd be affected by it."
I don't get the hysterics.
.
@ShannonSharpe
on Joey Bosa saying Derek Carr shuts down "once you get pressure on him:"
"Carr isn't different than any other QB. If you want to beat a team with an elite QB, hit him in the mouth. I didn't see a QB who quit last night, I saw a guy that battled."
The Chargers enter week 17 owning the 31st-ranked scoring defense. The last time the Chargers finished 31st or lower, they went 4-12 in Schottenheimer's second season as HC.
The next year, the Chargers went 12-4 and won the AFC West.
Chargers Training Camp. It's finally here.
Brandon Staley and Co. Derwin James' return. New uniforms just one year old. Feels like a turning point in the franchise is coming.
Junior Colson gets to step in as a rookie already knowing (assuming, of course) the entire defensive playbook for the Chargers.
First-year players do not get to experience that level of comfort immediately when transitioning.
If Kellen Moore is not the

OC in 2024, Justin Herbert will have had 7 different OCs since his Freshman year at Oregon (9 years):
'16: Lubick
'17: Cristobal/Arroyo
'18-'19: Arroyo
'20: Steichen
'21-'22: Lombardi
'23: Moore
'24: ???
Woke up depressed that Herbert needs 10 TDs in 3 games to pass 100 through his first 3 seasons.
The record should've been a walk in the park, but eight games of 1 or 0 passing touchdowns this season was a quick way to obliterate that hope.
The
#Chargers
attempt to โbuild a fortressโ for Justin Herbert in Bucky Brookโs latest mock draft.
At
#17
, the Bolts were paired with MSU OT Charles Cross (6โ5 307). Cross would pair with second-year tackle Rashawn Slater to create one heck of a OT duo.

RB Austin Ekeler said he was up at 3am this morning thinking about the play in the red zone where he went the wrong direction.
There's a 24-hour rule with those feelings so says he need to forget it and re-focus on Carolina.
Per
@NFLResearch
, Austin Ekeler joined Hall of Famer Marshall Faulk (2000-2001) as the only other player in NFL history to have 10+ rush TDs and 5+ rec TDs in consecutive seasons.
No reason not to
#FreeJamareeSalyer
at this point.
Continuing to trot out Storm Norton at such an important position will be seen as severe negligence from here on out.
With Mike Williams, Bryan Bulaga, and Trai Turner not looking to be available this Sunday, the
#Chargers
will be without....*checks notes*
...1...2...3.....10 starters (5 on OFF, 5 on DEF).
The Chargers added former Northwestern LB Paddy Fisher to the practice squad.
Fisher was a 4x All-Big Ten performer including two nods to the first team in โ18 & โ20 after finishing with 401 total tackles, 24.5 TFLs, and 4 INTs.

Nasir Adderley just ran a pass-rush rep against TE Stephen Anderson and looked extremely explosive. Won the rep, but that's not the point. It surprised me how fast he looked.
Chargers jersey # updates via the official team roster:
Johnson - 77, Woods - 22, Spiller - 28, Salyer - 68, Taylor - 36, Leonard - 33, Horvath - 45, Everett - 7, Van Noy - 8, Callahan - 23, Reeder - 42
With five receiving yards on Sunday, DeAndre Carter will hit 500 for the first time in his career. If he does, that means the
#Chargers
will finish with six players who have recorded 500+ receiving yards this season.
Has that ever been done before?
Derwin's torso is contorted to lead with shoulder. No intention to go crown first. Unfortunate bang-bang play but it's not anywhere near as egregious as everyone is making it out to be.
JSN: 16-110-0
Zay Flowers: 35-367-1
Jordan Addison: 22-277-4
QJ: 6-44-0
The best rookie wideouts not named Puka Nacua were taken right after the Chargers picked QJ. I honestly don't think it's too early to start having some conversations about this.
Bosa versus the run is not even close to the football player he is versus getting after quarterbacks. Effort became worse and worse as the game went on.
It is clear to me. Running and balance took away his super pash rush. Run the ball, screens, dump offs!!!
Uchenna Nwosu (whom we all love) in 2021: 5 sacks and 8 TFLs in 15 starts
Khalil Mack in 2021: 6 sacks and 6 TFLs in 7(!) starts
What are we doing here?
Iโm getting roasted in the comments for saying the Khalil Mack trade didnโt make the Chargers better (while bring up Jerry Tillery in the same sentence). I was hating but donโt act like Mack isnโt an ILB with his hand in the ground who didnโt play in 2021
#Chargers
have taken the ball away 7 times and have turned the ball over zero times combined in their last two games but are 0-2 while being outscored 67-64.
The more you read and the more you think about it all, the more mind-numbing it all becomes. Just surreal at this point.
HoF WR Michael Irvin just took Keenan Allen/Mike Williams over Tyreek Hill/Jaylen Waddle on NFL GameDay Morning as the league's best WR duo.
Chargers by a million today. I don't make the rules.
Khalil Mack was graded as the defense's third-worst player against the Seahawks (47.8.)
It was his first game all year with less than than 3 pressures (1) and his first with a game grade under 60.0. By far his worst marks across the board.
Keenan Allen is doing his best to answer the media's questions about all the losses this year. He almost seems at a loss for words as there's only so much to say after each new loss.
Mentions it's been eight years of this team losing close games. The guy simply sounds tired.
It's an old-head mentality to keep bashing Brandon Staley for going for it on fourth down these past two weeks.
Great teams can get that yard. As good as everyone believes the Chargers should be, they should get that one yard. Everyone is reacting to the result, not the process.
Chargers went from driving on the Broncos up 14-7 to:
- Ekeler fumble
- Joey Bosa hurt
- Mike Williams hurt
- Blown coverage with under 45 sec left that led to tying TD before DEN gets ball back after half
Per
@PFF
, Oday Aboushi is the highest-graded guard from a year ago that's still available on the market. Don't see how he's not the guy for them, talent and price-wise.

LT Rashawn Slater crushed it out of the gate in his return to the field.
He left Sunday with a 88.0 pass block grade (4th best among OTs in Wk 1) and graded as the overall 3rd-best OT in the NFL.
Today marks the first time I won't be covering a Chargers game in 3+ years. Parenthood came calling!
Our daughter Juliette arrived last week and it's been a whirlwind of love since. When I'm not catching up on sleep, being with her and perfecting my cool dad walk takes priority.
