@SkyeRoberts_
Original films that are actually good, with depth and soul and without a billion notes from Corporate that make it die the creative death of a thousand cuts.
More Moana and Encanto.
Less Raya and Wish.
Gamers™: "Games should be apolitical, like they used to be in the 90s!"
Games in the 90s: "The planet is literally screaming in agony as the socially-repressive megacorporation sucks it dry of fossil fue--erm, *mako energy*--for the sake of earning just a little more money."
@fairyartmother
The key difference:
"Standard anime style," while boring, actually looks good.
Beanmouth, with few exceptions (Gravity Falls, Big City Greens, Turning Red), just looks bad. Like, extremely bad.
@TheRealSook
I'm pretty sure I've called out several of them in the past, too. And yet, they persist. Using "watashi wa" in every sentence, and ending all of them with "desu" or "-masu."
@ask_aubry
I don't have the audio on by default, so they just looked extremely uncomfortable and miserable. Then I listened to the audio. I wasn't *entirely* wrong...

@CastleDead
His dialogue sounds like it came from any of the filler raid bosses in World of Warcraft: Legion.
Just laughably generic.
@callsignSkyEye
@cannibality
Encanto is actually pretty consistently praised by Colombian people for mostly getting it right, and they often joke that the only thing it gets wrong is that Abuela Alma realizes she was in the wrong and apologizes.
What you're imagining Encanto to be is what Raya actually is.

Fascism is entirely about "natural hierarchies" and the elevation of certain individuals over others.
Right-wing ideology is entirely about "natural hierarchies" and the elevation of certain indivi--HEY WAIT A MINUTE
@KVennie
No. It fails at everything it tries.
It fails to teach a good lesson about trusting others, it fails at creating a believable world, it fails at being SEA representation, it fails at having compelling characters, and it fails at being an entertaining movie.
All bad. No bueno.
@Bearded_Gamr
@woofknight
You're just out of touch.
I've known what aro/ace was for close to 20 years now, because my brother is one, and outcasts have a tendency to find each other, so he had a small group of aro/ace friends to surround himself with.
These communities have always existed.
@JohnSLPaul
It's sub-mediocre. An actual babby movie for babbies with nothing of value or interest to say.
And you can see the fingerprints of corporate meddling EVERYWHERE.
Couldn't even get a proper musical composer to write the musical numbers for this musical.
Gawd DAMN!
@Tamias1000
@TheAleksee
That's funny...I didn't say anything about Nazis.
But now that the subject's here, Nazism is slightly different from fascism, in that it's all the same things, but with an ethnonationalistic focus and an obsession with a fictional "golden age" that they want to return to.
@ReceiveandStab
PS4-level graphics are good enough for basically any genre.
Just let me play Kingdom Hearts and Like a Dragon at my job where there is no internet.

@SOPHONTSIMP
Snakes can burrow and squeeze into places lizards can't get to. There was obviously a point in history where being able to get into tight places meant a greater chance of survival.
@terminallyOL
I get weirded out when people's high schools have several buildings for all their facilities when we had to settle for everything being squeezed into one building.
And then we'd have to walk to the junior high to use their running track.
@Schaffrillas
Rather ironic that the Death Eaters' entire modus operandi, once they attained societal power, involved obsessing over people's birth status and insisting that said status was determinative of their worth in society, arranged by strict hierarchy.
Also many appeals to tradition.
@Marcyberd
"I want more silly cartoons" and "Uncle Grandpa was dogshit" aren't mutually exclusive statements.
I also want more JRPGs, but that doesn't mean Triangle Strategy isn't a pile of shit.
Just because it's another entry in a genre I want more of doesn't automatically make it good.
@TetsuoTheGoat
Kite and Mezzo Forte aren't really hentai, per se.
They just have hentai scenes awkwardly shoehorned into them (plot and characters be damned) as part of the contract agreement that got those OVAs greenlit in the first place.
@MegumiBandicot
The Lego Movie set the standard that any animated movie about something typically inane could be narratively satisfying.
It's been nearly a decade since that baseline standard was set.
@AllisonPregler
It's because the actress's delivery of that line is hilarious. Combined with the humor innate to watching people on TV fall down and you've got a classic early 90s meme.
@PoliticsLs
Progressives, yes.
Leftists, not so much.
The Founding Fathers were definitely in the LibRight quadrant, with a high Progressive rating on the cultural axis. Individual liberty was paramount, democratized access to the benefits of capitalism was the ideal, equality was the goal.
@Babieca09
Not to mention Nadia being the whole-ass protagonist of her own show--conceived by Hayao Miyazaki and directed/produced by Hideaki Anno--in 1989.
@DewEnjoyer
She wanted a regal-sounding first name for this very regal guy.
"Hmm...Kingsley. Yeah, it's even got "king" in it!
Now, he imprisons bad guys. Hmm. Puts 'em in shackles! Alright, Shackle...Shackle...he's a wizard! Wizards make lightning bolts! Shacklebolt!
Okay, moving on..."

@DreamLeaf5
Many don't have the luxury of waiting 7+ years to get their green cards when they're being literally hunted by the cartels for not paying their protection money, y'know.
