Started some very preliminary hobby work on a "test project" to replicate parts of Windows 8's unique system interface design on the web. It has been frustrating to see replication efforts usually lacking the attention to detail, often seemingly just eyeballing or generalizing

Someone on Reddit figured out that dragging-and-dropping something onto the Batteries widget in iOS brings up a “Hello World” test page. … I found some additional widgets that bring up empty screens or crash their respective app on drag & drop.

This, along with the reduced IO performance around RS1 really shows how bad Windows 10 has gotten in terms of performance, especially on hard drives. Windows 10 RTM performed very close to Windows 8.1, now it's not even close. Windows 10 is only comfortably usable on an SSD.

The argument that 8GB on Apple Silicon Macs is roughly equal to 16GB falls apart pretty quickly when you try After Effects on the 8GB models. Because it shares memory with the GPU, you can end up with it only being able to hold 5-10 frames worth of preview until stuff swaps out.
