Why (many) beta-readers expect everything to be completely clear at each point in the text & complain if there's room for questions even if they're answered by the end of the chapter? You don't expect a murder mystery novel to start by telling you who's done it! #WritingCommunity

What sex scenes and fight scenes in a novel have in common is that they should always serve the plot. I don't shy away from writing them. But it's not about step-by-step technical descriptions! It's about characters & their emotions, senses, & goals. & It should move the plot.

@writes_isa I use google docs to write/draft/edit because I can also use it on my phone on the go or in bed when an idea keeps me up. I don't even have MS word! I've got scrivener for compiling into pdf & epub. But it's not user-friendly enough imho for writing. & no mobile option.

I was shocked & embarrassed when 2 friends said my "Thanks a lot." sounded passive-aggressive. The problem isn't them but that others had found my usage of exclamation marks as sarcastic! Basically: "Thanks a lot." => passive-aggressive "Thanks a lot!" => sarcastic So what now?🤷‍♀️

🧵Today, someone used a well-meant tweet of mine, twisted it, and made accusations about me, calling me selfish because I dared to say that a bunch of tweets don't end wars. I stand by what I said. To think that your tweets save lives is naive at best & honestly self-centered.

@MitziMasha I agree! Besides, being a divorced woman was seen as a failure, a lack of character, and worse. Many people still look down on divorced women & love to make up bizarre lies to slander them

I was NOT surprised by the disgusting actions of my assailant nor by the cruelty of my colleagues. But I am shocked by how many comments here put the blame on me. Have you not lived in this world? Don't you know women aren't believed, her word against his? Women get slut-shamed.

Am I brave for posting this or stupid for upsetting agents with my honest opinion which most ND people I know share?! I choose brave. I was born in an active warzone, survived a genocide, & grew up in one of the most brutal dictatorships in the world. I'm a fighter, not a coward.

I'm confused. An agent's MS-wishlist says they are "a huge Sarah J. Maas fan" & Grisha Verse with their favorite being King of Scars. But they also say they "simply can’t do blood, even on the page!" But those books have oceans of blood spilled & King of Scars has major violence!

A year of querying has proven to me that the most important things are: Being able to write a great query The story fits the current market trends LOTS OF LUCK ... Down the line, a well-written manuscript helps too! Your idea being unique is only gonna make it harder to sell.

Please convince me to finish The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss. So many insisted it's great, & I must read it. I am really trying my best. But if it were my book, beta readers would have crucified me for slow pacing, too much exposition, unrealistic characters... #booktwt
