Yes great for everyone - except women, migrant workers, gay people…
And even if you’re a straight man, make sure don’t get into any financial debt and don’t kiss anyone in public. 🤡
Car Twitter: It's 1991 and you're a rising star at a talent agency in LA. What car are you driving to your Century City office (yelling into your car phone)? 😎📞
Ok, Car Twitter: You're having a secret, passionate love affair with your mechanic. What are you driving to ensure you get to see them on the regular? 😂🔧
Today marks one year since I picked up my Porsche Taycan - my first

. I've always been a big car guy and it was a huge step to go electric. Here’s my experience over the past 12 months and 15,000 miles. ⚡️🚙

Raw dog food always seemed unnecessary - and now dangerous. Growing up, I had two yellow labs that ate good quality kibble (with some cooked, unseasoned chicken every now and then). They lived to 18 and 16 respectively. I do the same with my golden retriever today.
I love Porsches and EVs but we will always have a full size Rover. With power out until Monday and no sign of 10 inches of snow melting we took our one opportunity to leave yesterday before nightfall and get off the mountain. 50k miles later and he’s still a complete champ. 🚙
@Lambothirteen
Honestly to “look” rich, a used previous gen S-Class and a former gen full size Range Rover look the part. Just don’t ask about maintenance or running costs. Both of these are yours for $35k.
@GuyDealership
Anecdotally (no science) some of the most financially independent people we know have been buying out their leases or keeping cars they’d normally trade earlier for a lot longer. The wealthiest we know didn’t buy new to begin with 😂

I know they are super fast and fun but high-performance SUVs always feel like they are trying to be too many things for too many people. Just buy a full size RR and a used 911 as a fun weekend car.

A 260 mile range is *just* about acceptable for something sporty like a e-tron GT or Taycan, but for a family car not coming out until Q3 2024? It absolutely needs to be in 300+ mile territory, even though these will likely be novelty 3rd cars in coastal California.
@pmddomingos
@Harlan
No surprises but a lot of specific hyperlocal factors at play here:
This area of Downtown SF is mostly non-residential.
Foot traffic is down - there’s a lot of empty commercial real estate because many companies still WFH or have 2-3 day hybrid schedules.
Parking here sucks
@tmrohan
That sounds awful tbh but each to their own. I spent plenty of time in the office pre-pandemic, but working from home and being self-employed provides the most incredible freedom and quality of life for me. I left Apple last year due to their 3 day in-office policy.
@Carpervert
Only those who buy entry level luxury brands just so they can tell everyone they “drive a Mercedes”, when really a similarly priced Camry or Civic would be a much better car in every way vs a leased A200 with an illuminated star. 😂

Santa Monica is bad. This sort of thing happens yet personal trainers who use the grass along Ocean are immediately fined unless they pay a tax to the city. Literally have people pooping in the grass but heaven forbid there’s an outdoor yoga class without the city getting a cut.

If you know the Beverly Hills Hotel at all, you’ll know the valet doesn’t leave the hotel property since they have an on site garage - and even if that was full - they still wouldn’t return through the front entrance from that angle.
Overall, it's a really great car, and an incredible product considering it's Porsche's first-ever EV. It does almost everything extremely well. My heart will always want a 911, but the Taycan is a rational compromise between looks, performance, practicality, and running costs.
🛣 Road Trips: These now definitely require a lot more planning. We regularly drive from Napa to Santa Barbara to visit family and I’ve now perfected a route using

stations. The new

CarPlay range integration is a big help.

Sure, I agree but domesticated dog breeds are not wild animals. I'd like to see my Golden Retriever attempt to hunt for his dinner in the wild. He would probably call PostMates.

On ski trips as a little kid I always remember seeing these in the Alps going up and down icy snowy passes which they really had no business traversing for their size. The mountain goat of cars. 😂
@SpeedSportLife
That is atrocious customer service. I hope
@Porsche
gets involved. Husband's 23 Range Rover arrives in August and just waiting for Land Rover to play ADM games.
@TheSmokingTire
, this just happened with our '23 Range Rover we ordered 10 months ago. $2,500 deposit, car finally came last week, explored finance options (our bank had better rates), got pre-approved, but before we got to dealer on Sun they sold to someone else w/ huge markup.
@autocar
It’s not really about EVs, it’s more about our changing news cycle - much cheaper and easier for automakers to just livestream their car reveals and launch events vs flying staffers and cars for a “reveal” which already leaked on the internet a week before.
🏁 Driving Experience: I’m a huge Porsche fan (this is my 4th) and despite being an EV, it still has that Porsche “feeling”, especially in the simpler (cheaper) base RWD form. It’s no 911, but it hugs corners, and dynamically feels somewhere between a base 992 and a Panamera.
🔵 Spec: I was lucky to get an allocation with no markup as a repeat customer from Porsche Fremont. I was cautious with options, going with the base RWD, Performance battery, blue over tan, upgraded wheels, glass roof + Premium pack. From order to delivery, it took 6 months.
@sequi_simon
Congrats! I shipped a 1985 Land Rover 90 over to California last year and have been tidying it up last few months. Plan to keep it forever.
🔋Range: This is a big one. The optional Performance Battery is essential, not just for extra power. I’m averaging around 250-260 miles per charge, and up to 280 miles if I’m being really well behaved. Extreme high/low temps, or driving it hard will push it down to around 220.
@GuyDealership
Yup. We bought out our Range Rover at the end of its 3 year lease last year. Land Rover CPO'd it and gave us a fresh 100k mile warranty which we will 100% use 😂
🔌 Charging: I'm an atypical EV owner as I do not have a charger at home. I rely on the free
@ElectrifyAmerica
charger 30 mins away, an
@evgonetwork
charger 10 mins in town, and free L2 charging at my gym. If I didn’t work from home, an L2 home charger would be a must.
@MrCarFacts
My first car, a '99 Golf 1.9 TDi 5 speed manual just like this. It felt like a Rolls-Royce compared to the Peugeot 106s and Vauxhall Corsas in the school car park.😂
🐷 Size & Weight: Big batteries are heavy. Despite feeling smooth and nimble, the Taycan isn’t far off the weight, length, and width of a full-size Range Rover! It ate through a pair of rear tires in just 12k miles.
