We were. Most Ethiopians just think that we would’ve had to have been occupied by a foreign entity such as Italy for a considerable amount of time before being considered a colonised nation/state. In reality, there were/are no such guidelines. We were controlled by them briefly.

I’ve observed that many Ethiopians online have this weird conviction that singing about disputed areas or cultural practices legitimises their otherwise shaky claims. Many artists rap about killing their “enemies”, yet they’re too afraid to even kill a roach. All bark, no bite.
