Apparently, if you steal a £70k car, get caught driving it, blow 103 at the roadside and then officers go on to find £30k worth of stolen property at your house the appropriate sentence is…. ***7 day custodial (suspended)*** How have we ended up like this…?

After an unexpected 19 hour shift (due to an urgent assistance at the end) the resulting prisoner shared several things with me; - Urine - Excrement - Saliva - Snot - Many hurty words After all that, they still got to eat, drink & sleep long before I did. The system works.

🧵 Reading lots about retention of SC’s across the country, with various reasons offered. My 2 cents: The premise on which we recruit people, i.e you can be an SC on 16 hours a month and be a fully operational competent officer is an outdated concept and needs attention. (1)

I think there should be some real effort to reinvigorate the Ride Along scheme - particularly in the MPS at the moment. Bring people right into the front line and see what policing in 2020 is really like.

#SouthWestBCU is busy today with a fantastic turn out of 35 Specials. All ranks working today 1 Special Chief Inspector 3 Special Inspectors 8 Special Sergeants and 23 Special Constable’s. Various duties today Neighbourhoods, Response, Proactive Team and Coached Patrols.

In almost 11 years service, today was the first time officer safety training, or PPST (if I must), resembled anything like the real world. I can barely speak, I ache and I actually feel like I’ve had a good roll around. A great first step, and I hope it goes even further.

This week 8 more of our volunteer officers have successfully passed their training and assessments to become Specially Trained Officers (STOs) and are now authorised to carry Taser. ⚡️ This is another investment to allow our officers to keep themselves & the public safe! 🚔👏🏼
