I can’t pick up my dogs prescription because I can’t remember her date of birth. They won’t tell me it because patient privacy. She’s a dog. She won’t tell me it either.
Well. In good news. Anobelle is getting a new bday out of this - which means… she also gets a bday party. She’s looking forward to burgers with her ridiculous medication.
@hankgreen
I was very public - I wanted other young women to know and get checked out. 2 friends found lumps shortly after which were early stage BC and both successfully treated. I did purposely make my baldness awkward though by signing into a video meeting without telling anyone. lol

@ICS_SCADA
It’s the first time they’ve ever asked - she’s been on this for a couple years - not sure what dog med regulations changed 😀
It finally happened. The cuteness of my dogs forced one of the 22 year old apartment bro’s to ask me out.
I got to say it.
I’m old enough to be your mom and it wouldn’t have even been a teen pregnancy
The horror.
@hankgreen
I felt isolated by illness. I still do. Best thing they did was turn up in the long term. I have one friend who sets his calendar to remind me I’m meant to be getting a test. It’s amazing. Also letting me know I can ask for help and trust them to be there when I actually ask.
@AMythicWitch
I used a wind tunnel to test the aerodynamics (on a bike) of my boobs before and after a double mastectomy. Only time I could ever get that type of control.
Stop supporting conferences where they have 0 women in the speaker lineup. There is no excuse. If you don’t know women exist in this field… that’s a ‘you’ problem.
It shouldn’t just be on us.
imagine having to ask folks arranging your own conference - to vet the registration list for a dude who harassed/stalked you - because you know he saw it on LinkedIn. Welcome to being a woman in tech.
It’s been 9 years since I had my last chemo…. I’ve came a long way baby. So much hair. For anyone who’s struggling through cancer treatment and the holidays… just keep swimming and

@hankgreen
It’s the fascia of your skin being irritated… it’s the worst. I described it as it feels like my skin has detached and started causing friction inside. Weirdest frigging feeling.
Well… I can survive cancer, race triathlon and be a chief scientist - but my dogs are actually the most interesting thing about me - but in good news I got 36 followers now - influencer career incoming!
I can’t pick up my dogs prescription because I can’t remember her date of birth. They won’t tell me it because patient privacy. She’s a dog. She won’t tell me it either.
Are you really a middle aged white dude in cybersecurity if you haven’t started (yet another) podcast to share your ‘invaluable insights’ and ‘probably misguided hot takes’
Oh to have the confidence that folks want to hear from you that much. Perhaps a gap analysis…just once
I made it all the way across! In one piece. 2 dogs + 1 4runner + 2 bikes + 1 Emma
Thank you to all who called (or tried to) and listened to me blabber and made me stay awake/sane
You must drink beer, smoke cigars and play golf to be a female exec…is getting old.
But hey. Why change something when it creates an exclusive environment for the old boys to make decisions and exclude
Todays good health news from recent tests: my lungs and heart aren’t showing any sign of progressive disease - my heart has infact stopped ‘leaking’
It appears I am in remission from killer disease no2.
lol. Now what am I meant to do? Just like be alive.
It’s my 9 year cancerversary! Emma didn’t die Day! I think after this year of health and life chaos it should be renamed to Emma won’t die day. Last year I was sad my year wasn’t much. I said I’d make this year better…and say yes more.
So here it is 1/3
This - for sure. I’ve never decided i need to work with someone because their plastic bottle reminded me. Donate a dollar to a local charity instead of the plastic piles.
For those following the latest ‘Emma death attempt’ - I might have just got the best Christmas present… of my lung and chest scan coming back all clear. Thanks Santa
Archie scared me this morning. Wouldn’t get up. Laying with his paw up and twitching. Start trying to work out what’s broke. His front dew claw was stuck in his collar. He’s a gump. Picture for gumpiness verification.
Our Oppenheimer moment isn’t AI. It’s climate change.
We aren’t running the AI scientists out the door for speaking out.
We are ignoring (and have been ignoring) the climate scientists… cutting their funding when the speak against politicians.
Y’all see that right?
I’d like to propose more dogs at conferences. Through all the chaos last wk, there was this little old dude. Hiding in the event room with us being a boss support dog.
Todays memory is the day I shaved my head after starting chemo 8 years ago. Man I have a good round skull but my smile is far more real now. Fun fact no one tells you, your hair falling out actually hurts, like your parting is the wrong way all over your head. Still worth it
Did I manage to get through 7 nights in Vegas without getting Covid and without a flare of my stupid autoimmune…. Why yes. Yes I did. For once… goooo Emma’s immune system for cooperating.
It’s Archie’s gotcha day! He’s came a long way from his horrible beginnings. There’s a reason he was called archie(bald). 7 years ago I got a phone call to ask me to meet a very special pup who needed help. Rescue all the dogs.
Once again. More dogs at conferences. This was actually a great idea. Raising money for the rescue and finding them homes.
They brought so much happiness to the engineers
After something horrible happened to me this yr, the only way I cope with still going to cons, was to plan ahead every event and who I would see
I am thankful for my friends - old and new - who keep me standing upright when it feels like things are crashing. You are all the best
Sometimes Anobelle just doesn’t know how to dog. But they did visit a river for the first time and Archie rolled in mud. Maybe they can be east coast pups after all.
Little girls bag pulled to be searched at DCA.
‘Do you have anything sharp’
She holds up her unicorn horn pillow.
Gonna go far kid. Best part of the morning.
Happy ‘pearl street station startup day’ - the birth of electricity generation and distribution as we know it! (Well kind of.. aside from that whole AC/DC thing)
#OTD
in 1882, Edison & team energized the Pearl Street Station. Six 100kW generators powered 400 lamps & changed the way Americans used energy forever. It took awhile, but eventually electricity replaced gas lighting just about everywhere.

Doctor: update on tests…Absolutely everything is 100% middle of normal
Emma: that’s a first - are you sure these are my results
Doctor: yup
Emma: sooo. Is that bad? I’m suddenly normal
Doc: 🤦♀️

Every year I put together a collage of pics to say ‘this is what I did this year that was awesome’. It reminds me to keep saying yes to the adventures even when anxiety tells me i should hide indoors. Year 9 coming up!
You know - conference planning sucks, but seeing we managed to get 33% of the registrants to be women, and at least 65% of the panels have at least one woman on it (for a technical event) I am pretty proud to have made the effort on this one
You can find them…
