Writer (currently working on how we think about what makes us sick, for St. Martins). Farmer (goats, pigs, horses, sheep). Mother/wife/sister/daughter/person.
Fourteen years ago, my four-year-old daughter lost her dearest stuffed animal friend ever. Plurna was gone. We all wept. For months.
Today, my farm manager found Plurna in the woods wrapped in roots.
We washed her and she is whole.
I am speechless.
My immuno-suppressed husband and I have just attended his father's funeral online.
I don't even think I need to comment on the surreality of that, I'll just let it sit there.
@nightlightoasis
Actual shepherd here (plus 30 years of pastor's wife/worship leader time under my belt). Not only is this ridiculous--NO shepherd would ever do such a thing because it would kill the sheep--but it shows a dark, twisted view of how Christ cares for his people.

College educated women prefer leaders who don't obsessively focus on the physical appearance of female constituents/reporters/opponents/former lovers.
That's why many of us won't be voting for you.
Apparently my support for the COVID-19 vaccines means that a number of readers can no longer accept my view on grammar, writing instruction, and ancient history.

1) Welfare fraud is, unfortunately, widespread but not primarily carried out by immigrants. 2) Rape is horrendous. Rape in the United States is 99.9% a crime committed by U.S. citizens. 3) Voting Democratic does not automatically equal "leftism," although I'm sure that will not
Three mothers sent their nine-year-olds to a little

My father died early this morning at the age of 87.
He was born in New Orleans, educated as the only Baptist student at his Jesuit high school, and then went to Carson-Newman University in Tennessee, where he met
7/8 Evangelicalism that continues to applaud and follow this sort of "teaching" will simply move further and further away from the gospel, and will obscure more and more what it means to follow Christ.
I write in my journal 5 mornings a week. This morning I read an essay about how great it is to leave your journals as a gift to the next generation and all I could think was: How can I be sure that they're all destroyed before I die???
@OhNoSheTwitnt
Um, Marxists are not occultists. Marxism is a naturalist political philosophy that doesn't reference the supernatural at all. I'm so tired of people throwing "Marxist" around as an insult when they have no idea what the word means.
3/7 all in the Old Testament: because preaching exclusively from the Old Testament means that you can focus on power and empire-building instead of character, nationalistic pride instead of union with Christ, culture wars instead of peacemaking.
A follower on the Other Site asked me why I described my 5 semesters at Liberty as "horrible," so I'll just add this here.

Not "worst" but possibly "most disruptive": seven-year-old ring- bearer threw up all over the groom's shoes, the bride's train, and the ring and ring-pillow, then bolted away sobbing and left the ring & pillow in a pile of vomit at the front of the church.
Quite a long post.
I've been holding back on posting the following because I prefer to post positive recommendations rather than criticisms of specific programs.
But I think that, over the course of the next year, we're going to hear "God's will for our country" and "God's

The fact that this work has not been ongoing for the last fifty years does not bode well for the future. There's no convincing evidence that the "people of God" have the inclination to step up in this way.
This little guy is out in the sunshine for the first time in his life today. It does my heart good to watch him rejoice; I hope it does the same for you.
My word for the day is Kummerspeck--the German term for comfort eating, or what happens to you when you do too MUCH comfort eating. It's literally "sorrow fat"--or, which I like better, "grief bacon."
Yep. I'm seeing some grief bacon on today's menu.

I started off Monday with a bang/whimper by posting in support of masks on my Facebook page and bringing out the mob with pitchforks.
I really don't understand why this is so hard to grasp. I try to understand differing points of view. But resistance to this is simply beyond me.
It's a sad day when I comment on the protest/social distancing dilemma, and then can't figure out whether to spend my energy responding to the rampant racists, or the anti-science virus-denying conspiracists. Props to all the sane and compassionate people who've posted...

My daughter keeps texting me from her theatre history class because she's so excited about ancient Greek theatre production values, and both my mom heart and my teacher heart are very full right now.
We just added this on the Well-Trained Mind Forums board rules.
*I* just added this. Blame me. Deal, or go somewhere else to talk about educating your kids.
Missing my German shepherd today. I'm surrounded by wonderful people who love me, but he was the only living creature interested in my very smallest movements. Now nobody really cares that I'm putting on my barn shoes and heading outside! Wish you were still here, best of dogs.
My parents and their primary caretakers--myself and my cousin--just got our second Moderna shot today.
The relief of knowing that I'm not going to make them severely ill is unspeakable.
And yes, we'll all continue to wear masks when we're out in public.

I'm hoping this will be the *final* edition. Here's why.

The most disturbing thing to me in this interview is when he says, "If he's simply hurting her."
Hurting is never simple. It is vicious and scarring and distorting and evil.
The world's first compulsory education act, passed in Scotland in 1496, required the oldest sons of landowners to stay in school UNTIL THEIR LATIN WAS PERFECT.

I had a 14-hour workday yesterday and I think I'm going to have another one tomorrow, but TODAY is my birthday, so I had coffee and toast in bed and read the first part of Ian McEwan's new novel and now I am drawing with colored pencils and watching disaster movies. Bliss.
Languishing on the sofa with heavy-duty antibiotics and hot whiskey with lemon when my daughter's cat walked up, purred, patted me affectionately with her paw, and then threw up in my lap.
That felt deliberate.

FAMILY GAME NIGHT and I SCHOOLED them all in Citadel. Yep. I ruled. Decimated. Triumphed. Obliterated. IN YOUR FACES.
Also, if the goal of family game night is good relational feelings and love, that might not have happened.
Since I last tweeted, I fed 80 head of livestock 6 times, sat on a baby horse for the first time, wrote 7 grammar exercises, cooked 5 dinners for 5, worked on a novel that will never be finished, had 3 naps, read some poetry, and contemplated happiness.

One of my adult children said last night, in a EUREKA kind of voice, "Oh...those numbers that come with my car registration are STICKERS! I never knew that."

So for the next year or so, we have *two* adult children living at home.
Just to be clear, we are 100% happy about this. We live in a turn of the century farmhouse with way more space than an empty-nest couple needs. Plus there's a ton of room to roam on the farm. If they can

I'm waving goodbye until after the New Year! I plan to cook, eat, sing carols, watch movies and play games with my kids, wrap presents, feed my sheep and goats and horses and ducks, and write whatever I feel like writing, whenever I feel like writing it. See you in 2024.
I got to hug my seventeen-year-old and make her coffee this morning. I am both unutterably grateful for these mundane and wonderful acts, and utterly heartbroken for the parents in Florida who cannot do the same.

The goal of a classical education is to develop the entire person. Standardized tests do not serve the person. They serve the developer of the test.
