@JennMJacksonPhD
No public holidays have been announced as a result of the Queen's death in the UK.
In fact, several strikes have been cancelled as a consequence, so if anything the British people are working more, not less.
Sorry if that doesn't suit your agenda.
@lincs67
You could get most of those things when Labour was last in power.
Don't let the Government's PR machine distract you from the fact that the issue here isn't migrants, it's the Tories.
@SebastianEPayne
Of course, it's not only men. Or even (on my timeline) predominantly men.
But kudos on your attempt to turn this into some kind of anti-misogynistic crusade.
@ChristnNitemare
What he says: "a beautiful woman came up to me in a bar and asked to buy me a drink."
What he means: "Settle back and enjoy this my latest work of fiction."
@michaelgove
@JW3London
So any criticism of Israel is anti-semitic?
Does that mean that all of the many Jewish people in this country and elsewhere that have been stridently critical of Israel's actions in Palestine are all anti-semites?
@DeborahMeaden
@BTCare
My personal favourite was returning equipment to Sky:
"Dear S, we received your equipment, but you returned it to address X (the address on their website), when you should have returned it to address Y. Please resend it to address Y."
Um...but you've still got it...
@implausibleblog
I'm not convinced Starmer is going to ride into No. 10 after the next GE and suddenly become this nation's saviour.
I am, however, convinced that he is leagues better than Sunak (or, indeed, any current Tory MP).
@MartinSLewis
Having gone through the Court of protection process myself, it isn't something I would wish on my worst enemy.
Everyone should have a PoA.
@MrNishKumar
An unelected Prime Minister who is talking about the "will of the people" in the context of a policy that:
1. has never appeared in a manifesto;
2. has never been voted on by the people; and
3. is, according to polling data, manifestly unpopular with the people.
@joelycett
Waitwaitwait.
Is it possible that you've been doing this for years, and your all-time number one prank-of-the-century is Liz Truss?
Because that would explain a LOT.
@implausibleblog
The clearest indicator that any bill, policy or Government action is valuable and worthwhile for society is if Liz Truss comes out against it.
@Liz_Cheney
Can I just say from across the pond that we, the entire European continent, heartily endorse any effort to keep Trump out of the presidency.
Apart from
@Nigel_Farage
, for some reason. But he doesn't count.
@DanielaNadj
I think the senior management of Eton should resign for producing students that think it is ok to jeer and make racist, misogynistic comments about state school kids.
Inviting Farage is probably just one symptom of a wider underlying problem.
@BobGeor27574923
She’ll ‘pardon’ Bozo by cancelling the investigation into him, claiming that the country needs a fresh start and that she wants to look forward, not back. Or something equally asinine.
@Effiedeans
Well your proposed diet of pure oatmeal would cause everyone who followed it to die of malnutrition in a couple of months.
Is that the plan?
@Effiedeans
Have you done extensive research into the money that people currently spend on breakfast and could save instead by eating oatmeal?
Or have you just walked past a product in a supermarket and decided that all poor people are massively overspending on breakfast?
@carolvorders
@SteveBarclay
...BEEP...
Hi, you've reached the UK Government. I'm afraid no-one's here to take your call as we're all on taxpayer-funded holidays.
If you'd like to leave a message with your name and number, we'll get back to you if you're a Tory party donor but probably not otherwise.
Bye!
@pam_doove
@Sean_Campsie
When he threatens you and your friend with some kind of defamation lawsuit, which he almost certainly will, drop me a DM. I’ll enjoy roasting this guy in Court.
@ask_aubry
“She mostly gives short answers and kind of ignores me.”
So I’ll persist in going after her cos she’s actually massively into me and just playing hard to get OBVIOUSLY.
@PaulbernalUK
Don’t forget that this policy was the result of a dedicated day of Tory brainstorming.
One whole day together, and the best they could come up with is a regressive policy they trashed not 8 months ago.
@BrugesGroup
But in your view, anything "European" is a terrible idea, regardless of whether or not it benefits the British people.
Thus, your ideology prevents you making an objective assessment as to whether the ECHR is a good thing.
Which makes your commentary on this topic redundant.
@darrengrimes_
Hamas is a designated terrorist organisation.
Israel is a feted ally to whom we send arms.
Israel is being, and should be, held to a higher standard than a terrorist organisation.
@sophielouisecc
That would make sense if nobody was trashing her before she said a word about Britain or the Royal Family. Sadly this was not the case.
@JMPSimor
He absolutely knows better than this.
It is ridiculous that a member of His Majesty's Government can say something like this - that he undoubtedly knows is false - without censure.
@andreajenkyns
@BorisJohnson
Nice to see the level of respect you have for Parliament and Parliamentary rules, procedures and committees.
Makes me wonder why you bothered becoming an MP.
@ask_aubry
The thing that gets me about this stuff is that just 30 seconds of internet research would help this guy but he can't be bothered to do even that.
@LordIanAustin
@WMPolice
@unibirmingham
@news_ub
Question:
Do you actually not understand the difference between antisemitism and anti-Zionism?
Or is it that you do understand but just feel like trolling Twitter?
@thereclaimparty
@londonelects
@LozzaFox
As a constant drafter of legal letters, this is very firmly in the "our clients fucked up but expect us to do something about it" category.
@grantshapps
"Defence is in my DNA because Britain gave my family our freedom"
Whichever member of your comms team thought that this meaningless drivel was a good thing to post should be fired.
@sophielouisecc
If I was being paid by Tufton Street to say whatever they want me to say, I’d probably be a little careful about criticising others for choosing money over principles.
@NileGardiner
@NJ_Timothy
First it was the EU.
Now it's the ECHR.
Then it'll be:
The UN Refugee Convention
The Geneva Conventions
The UN as a whole
NATO
Literally any international agreement with anyone ever
Conclusion? Russia are getting what they paid for with the Tories.
@maitlis
@British_Airways
What she said: "I've tried your customer service line."
What she meant: "I attempted to submit myself to the mandatory, ritualistic torture necessary to extract a refund from a major airline. It was that or gouge my own eyes out at the sheer maddening frustration of it all."
@ask_aubry
It's all a bit odd, but people do weird things when they're grieving.
Only two months in, and I can only imagine it must be so much worse when pregnant with your dead husband's child.
I'd give her a little slack, tbh.
@RmSalih
@JamesFl
This is exactly the answer of someone with no answer to give. Ignore the primary point of the tweet (UK is tolerant) and take issue with the UK’s human rights record instead.
Incidentally, war is not, by itself, a human rights breach.
@Councillorsuzie
Of course, the Tory legacy is constant corruption and the underfunding of public services.
So, it seems fair to assume that if you were in power there'd be no functioning hospitals for anyone to drive to, or functioning roads to drive on.
@sophielouisecc
I suspect it's because fracking won't solve or even meaningfully assist with the energy crisis, it's not proven to be safe, it won't produce cheap energy anytime soon and it's unpopular.
But...no, must be cos he's too rich to care. Obviously.
@KEdge23
Wait, I've seen this tweet before.
Maybe it's because you say the same thing EVERY DAMN TIME.
PLEASE try and have an original thought Kev, they're very important.
@kennardmatt
You say Starmer has reneged on all 10 of his leadership election promises.
As far as I can tell, 9 of them require Labour to be in government, and he's succeeded on the 10th.
@Mistyswoman
I hope the rental agreement for the barge has good termination provisions, because they're really going to struggle to eradicate that legionella.
@sophielouisecc
Would I be right in thinking, Soph, that you’ve read one article on Sweden and now feel you can tweet authoritatively on the subject of an entire nation?
@Rob_Kimbell
Are you still ecstatic that we left?
I can’t think of any single reason why you would be happy with what’s happened in the six years since that vote. Brexit looks like a terrible decision.
That might be why some people are suggesting we reconsider…
@jacquep
The only "Brexit benefit" I've encountered is being able to tell my dwindling circle of Brexit supporting acquaintances that I told them so. Repeatedly.
@DanWei55
The Queen was an apolitical figure, as were her recent predecessors, so blaming her for the wrongs of the British Empire, which was dismantled during her reign and no longer exists, is a bit short-sighted.
@mattrowley1973
@Eyeswideopen69
@Theodoric454AD
The ECHR is a restraint on the power of Government to infringe the human rights of those within its purview.
If a Government can't adhere to the ECHR, the failure lies with the Government.
A government plotting to leave the ECHR is basically admitting its own incompetence.
@ask_aubry
D1: “So how did your first date go?”
D2: “I called her a c*nt and told her to kill herself.”
D1: “Uh…ok, wow, so you didn’t like her then?”
D2: “Oh no, I thought she was great. I’m hoping for a second date.”
D1: “…I think I might know why you’re single.”
@sophielouisecc
Translation:
"Tories push PM to resign.
Tories than do nothing during a cost of living crisis.
Tories then set about lining the pockets of the wealthy and the expense of the poor.
Tories start pushing PM to resign.
I'm embarrassed to be a Tory."
@ask_aubry
I can't think of the number of times I've heard women discussing the attractiveness of men by reference to their 'frame'.
...oh wait, yes I can. Zero.
@Samfr
If she comes after you Sam, drop me a DM and I'll represent you.
SPS old boys network has got to be good for free legal advice, if nothing else.
@ClarkeMicah
Well this is a very insightful article. Peter thinks he offers a unique perspective, namely that peace is better than war. Thanks Pete.
He seems also to think that if the British people desire peace it’ll just happen. I suggest this might be a tad optimistic.
@sophielouisecc
Genuinely curious as to why you have an issue with businesses going cashless. If you were 80 I might understand it, but since you’re 20 I would not have been surprised if you said that you’d never handled cash.
@sophielouisecc
I can just see your reaction if a temporary migrant to the UK attempted to influence a public vote in favour of a left wing view.
You'd be spitting feathers (or possibly something less polite).
@Rob_Kimbell
Funnily enough, I am saddened constantly by the sheer number of responsible, decent and intelligent English people who have been taken in by anti-vax conspiracy theories.
Mercifully, I don't have to include close relatives and lifelong friends in this group of people.
@AkanKwaku
The "indigenous people of the British Isles"? Who are they?
The Beaker people came from Portugal
Celts came from Austria
The Anglo-Saxons came from Germany and Denmark
@DanielaNadj
And yet…
…Paul has a point. You’re condemning Prince Andrew based on hearsay and accusation.
I have little good to say about the man but he has not been convicted of a crime in a Court of law, and is therefore innocent until proven otherwise.
@RosieisaHolt
The fatal error that you've made with this video from a realism point of view is that you've actually answered the question you were asked instead of parroting the same old claptrap ad infinitem.
@AdamJSchwarz
Ah yes, the old “blame the previous government” strategy.
No, not my government.
No, not Theresa May’s government.
No, not David Cameron’s government.
No, not the Tory/Lib Dem coalition government.
Yeah, the one before that.
Bastards.
@Councillorsuzie
Translation:
"I'll be a Mayor who kowtows to Tufton Street, engages in the same dog-whistle politics as the rest of my party, spouts casual racism, despises most of the city for not being white, fails to do anything of substance and will blame my own failures on Labour."
@KEdge23
Translation:
"Even though my Tory paymasters have been in power for 13 years, everything is Labour's fault.
Why?
Cos that's what I'm paid to tweet, obvs."
@TBHonestlizz
Well, of course, the pro-Israel brigade would say that your abhorrence of the Israeli Government and Netanyahu is actually just a conduit for your deeply held anti-Semitic views, that you’re clearly pro-Hamas and probably helped fund, plan and execute the October 7 attack.
@sophielouisecc
...and you and your colleagues at
@GBNEWS
have chosen to hound them about whatever they've done, or not done, mercilessly. Endlessly.
Why is that?
@DominicRaab
I'd be interested to know what you achieved - or think you've achieved - in that year.
Apart from compelling all the criminal barristers in this country to go on strike, obviously.
@1goodtern
Somehow, necrotizing fasciitis didn't make your list.
"Bacteria is eating the flesh from little Tommy's bones as we speak, but I'm sure he'll be fine by lunchtime."
@Nurseborisbash
As others have pointed out, he'll be covered by Parliamentary privilege for these comments.
Let's instead reflect on the fact that he won't enjoy that privilege after the next general election, and wait.
@NileGardiner
We’re not embracing fascist ideology, we’re having it forced upon us by a virulently right wing Tory party that has lost all popular support.
@mrjamesob
James, I know you know this, but we CANNOT allow this Government to remove the UK from the ECHR. It is an essential independent restraint on this Government's ability to introduce legislation that offends human rights. If that protection is lost, everyone's rights are in danger.
@darrengrimes_
I wouldn't try to wrap your little head around the Middle East crisis, Darren. It's a bit more complicated than anything you're capable of understanding.
@darrengrimes_
What?
"Yeah I told you that my Rwanda Scheme was illegal!"
"Yeah I told you that there was no Plan B even though Robert Jenrick just admitted he and I have been working on one for months!"
Serious burns there.
