I’ve interviewed many amazing people on the
#EatMyGlobe
podcast but I don’t think they’d argue with me saying that talking with legendary Chef Jacques Pépin was one of the greatest honors of my culinary career so far. Don’t miss this episode

Reminded of editors sometimes asking for pitches from freelancers to only then hand them to staff writers, I thought I’d share the story of when I called one out.
I made a choice to become an American citizen so I could make a meaningful contribution by voting. Today is proof of why I did that. I bloody love this country. Thanks for having me
I just read an article that said you can keep chicken in the freezer for three months . Can’t be true. I put one in last night and when I just checked it, it was dead.
It is two years since the passing of
#AnthonyBourdain
. We have lots of terrific food TV presenters, but there will never be another Tony. His impact remains indelible. I have yet to be able to watch his shows again, as I am so sad and angry at how he left us. Maybe I never will.
The reclosure of Californian bars/restaurants/movie theaters is like your mum telling you “I’d told you you’d burn yourself if you touched the oven” after you ignored her and touched the bloody oven. Only difference, toddlers have more sense than many Californians

A note to all hate comment posters. In the tyrannical world that is the comment section of my social media posts, you don’t have any rights. I am lord & master and will delete if you post unpleasantness about me, colleagues or other commenters. End rant.
I’m at the point now where I want/need to stop apologizing that my Bengali father loved my Welsh mother. FU to anyone who considers that a problem with the food I cook or write about.
I tried to watch the Bourdain documentary today, and I couldn’t. It’s not just residual sadness at his absence, but also lingering anger that he left us with so much still to give. That’s bizarre, I know. But, I may never be able to watch any show with him again.
No spoilers. But I am clocking off now to go and drink tea and eat cake. Thank you to everyone who joined me on Twitter watching
#TournamentOfChampions
. I hope you enjoyed it as much as we all did. Shall we do it again?
Interesting. I lost more followers by saying Noel & Matt were the best ever
#GreatBritishBakeOff
host pairing than I did by celebrating
#BidenHarris2020
win. That baking mob’s a tough crowd 🙂
Four years ago today, my Baba passed away. There’s not a day that I don’t remember him and his smile. I still remember his love of food and drink, which he passed on to me and my siblings. I love you Baba.
I love restaurants. Bars/restaurants and their communities are my living and my life. But I’m still not sure how comfortable I am yet to put my health at risk for a meal. I may receive criticism for that, but I’ll take it if it means my wife and I remain healthy.
Do you ever do that thing where you open a bottle of wine, put the cork to one side in case you want to save some wine for later, and then smile to yourself at your own foolishness?

R.I.P Tony. I’ll always remember a night in a London pub and drinking vodka at Sammy’s Romanian. You were kind and funny & the world will miss your voice

This is horrible. Here’s my rule. You tip at least 20% on the whole amount and thank the lord someone is running around looking after your sorry a**. There are words for people who stiff servers, and they’re not good ones.
I just listened to a Taylor Swift song (not something a man of my age should ever do knowingly) about London. My only comment is she confuses afternoon tea (wealthy person’s meal) with “high tea” (a working man’s meal). I am annoyed and cross
Happy birthday to this guy.
@guyfieri
is genuinely one of a kind. If anyone deserves a birthday full of what Howard Carter called “wonderful things”. It’s this bloke. Happy birthday, Guy.
And that’s a wrap for

IV. I hope you had as fun a time as I had. Thank you for watching along with me.
And remember,

for our other time zone watchers. Thank you.
A huge happy birthday to one of my oldest friends.
@altonbrown
. A person who has already accomplished so much and has so much more yet to come. I can’t wait to see it. Rock on.
When the day of your father’s funeral begins with you finding a 200 year old silver topped cane (you’ll be seeing a lot of this from now on) to ending with the whole family reciting Cameo’s “Word Up” over many bottles of excellent champagne. A perfect send off. So long, Baba.
Tonight’s the night. I can’t believe this season of

I have spent a lifetime being told to “go back where you come from” both as an Anglo-Indian in Britain and even as a recent US citizen (happened recently). All I can say is it’s a degrading experience aimed to shrivel self worth. Whatever your politics. Stop It
What. RIP Matthew Perry. He was my favorite character on "Friends" and I watched so much of that show that I almost considered him a friend of mine. I know he has had troubles in recent years. May he at least find peace now 🙏🏼
I’m sure I’m not the only one who can’t watch Bourdain’s final (indeed any) shows right now. I’m too filled with utter sadness at what we’ve lost. I hope someday, I’ll just be able to see them for the joy they were. But, not now

@TansuYegen
Why not? Food comes in many different styles for different people in all times. I love F&C. I love this and all points in between

My wonderful mother. Today would have been her birthday. I can’t believe it is almost 19 years since she passed. And, I still love her as much as ever. For her energy, love and passion. Happy birthday, mum.

The hardest thing to explain to others about depression is that it is rarely related to events. I’ve spent the best part of the day doing what I love with amazing people. And yet the wet cold blanket of darkness is circling around me. Pliny the Elder time. Methinks 🍺
I once had a very grubby, but entirely lovable cat called "Eek-a-Mouse" (the name of a popular Jamaican DJ) and another lovely cat called Teapot. I am stuck in bed with Covid, and I had a dream about them. I just thought I would share that.
This is a shot from a past season of TOC. It reminds me of just how gracious Guy was to create such a role for
@EatFellowHumans
and me. Today, on the day of his birthday, it's a chance to celebrate. A very, very happy birthday
@guyfieri
, and many more.
I have been thinking about relatives recently. My parents are no longer with us, but this is a great photo of them when they were "courting" (as I believe it was called 🙂). They were (and are) a beautiful couple.
2 weeks ago I shared that I was previously diagnosed with oligodendroglioma, a rare form of brain cancer. I’m overwhelmed by your messages of support & so thankful for all your thoughts, wishes & prayers. Thank you
Save the date—October 29, 2024—to find a cure. More details soon
Woke to hear the news of the passing of my new pal
@saborchef
. Being a new addition to the

family, I only got to know him briefly, but man alive, he knew how to live life. I’m certain he’s first in line at the Gray’s Papaya in heaven. Keep on

A great picture of my late Baba from a couple of years ago. My brother had prepared a leg of lamb and, after a few glasses of wine my father (a retired orthopedic surgeon) began giving detailed descriptions on how he would have operated on it. I bloody miss him.
I love when I delete & block folks on my SM sites and they contact me saying I have “impeded my 1st amendment”. For the record. You behave. You stay. You don’t behave. You leave forever. I am an occasionally benign dictatorship. You’re welcome. But, you have no rights.
Almost inevitable that my birthday sees me crossing the country for an event. This time stopping briefly at Charlotte airport, en route to West Virginia. Exhausted, but at least there is wine to fuel my accelerating hurtle towards oblivion.

The words "father" and "hospice" being used in the same sentence can definitely bring your day to an early shutdown. I am going to go to my safe space in the kitchen for a few days.
I am now feeling uncomfortably full and ever so slightly tipsy. I am also about to fall asleep at 8pm. I am told this is a traditional Thanksgiving situation.
I bought a world map and asked
@sazyrock
to throw a dart at it saying “we’ll go where ever it lands, after the pandemic eases”. Apparently, we’ll be spending two weeks behind the couch.
Happy Father’s Day, Baba.There is not a moment of each day that I don’t miss you, be grateful for what you taught me, and see you in the person I have become. This is the last martini I ever made for you. I would give anything to have the opportunity to make one more. I love you.
