Life lessons from M, my Uber driver this morning:
1. “Have pride in what you do, no matter what it is.”
2. “Freedom is everything.”
He came here from Iran 44 years ago. He said Iranian women are strong and deserve to be free.
His wife & daughter are there now. 🙏
FACT: My colleagues are cooler than your colleagues.
These Americans have been x-crossing the country providing relief from inflation, *listening to people*, and driving solutions.

I believe there are many threats to democracy, frankly launched by all sides of our political spectrum. If we are going to talk about this tonight, let’s be honest. 🧵⬇️

🧵 Do I wish that the Fiscal Responsibility Act of 2023 would do a lot more? Oh yeah.
Is it what I would have wanted to write? Absolutely not.
Is it worth supporting anyway? Yes, I think so.

Except, you ignore "the tools" that solve inflation - won't cut spending to control debt; won't stop the war on oil to achieve energy abundance; won't turn off 💰 printing machines to stop devaluation of dollar; won't cut regulations/employer mandates to spur productivity. So...

Fact✅: the Dems’ bill being called a “$740B tax, climate, and health care bill” is accurate:
✅ Raises taxes to spend money that will drive more inflation
✅ Gives your tax $ to green energy companies and wealthy consumers
✅ Limits R&D into new cures, making healthcare worse
BREAKING: Senate Democrats passed their sweeping, $740 billion tax, climate and health care reconciliation package after an all-night session, with VP Kamala Harris casting the tie-breaking vote.
Driving through Wisconsin, I see a billboard for something called FlannelFest featuring a marshmallow fight?? Where has this been all my life? Somebody DM me details.
Dear
@POTUS
, I assume you’ll use your pulpit to tell D’s who are backing MAGA candidates in primaries that they are also threatening democracy and should stand down immediately?
If not, then please explain why.
BTW ⬇️ same thing they tried in CO8 and AFP Action *still* won based on truthful and meaningful conversations with voters. Do the research. Be informed.

already confirmed that $20 Billion in revenue would come from increasing audits on anyone making less than $400,000/year.
You have no power to promise anything the IRS will or won't do.
In May, the NYT called out the WH for a false connection between deficit reduction and inflation relief. But this reconciliation bill is "The Inflation Reduction Act" b/c it will put $ towards the deficit over 10 years. Right. Got it.
.
Will increasing taxes by $739 billion and increasing government spending by $433 billion reduce inflation or make inflation worse?

44%-Make inflation worse

My advice: it’s best to take your government’s spin with a huge grain of salt - no matter who is in charge.
Anyone with a wallet, a gas tank, and a desire to eat food is throwing some hard side eye right now.
@jeremycady
You just made me do the math: if I spent $2,300 on groceries, I can get my gas price down to where it was before Biden took office and the government spent trillions of dollars and spiked inflation.
"The tie between budget deficits and inflation is also more complex than Mr. Biden’s statements suggest.
Deficits, which are financed by government borrowing, are not inherently inflationary"
I could go on, and I’d welcome your comments. My point is: democracy is fragile. We cannot oversimplify it. And politicians, including the President, must also look in the mirror on many of these policy issues. /fin
I want to be clear: Not every Congressional Republican is a MAGA Republican. I know because I’ve been able to work with these mainstream Republicans.
But an extreme set of MAGA Republicans in Congress have chosen to take us backwards.
Together, we can choose a different path.
"Whether they push up prices hinges on the economic environment as well as the nature of the spending or cutback in revenue that created the budget shortfall.
Policies that reduce the deficit could be inflationary, for instance."
