@Sandyboots2020
Hi Lisa! Send us a DM, and we’ll send your friend’s daughter a SIP valve so she can safely hydrate.
We originally developed this for a family member dealing with the same risk while getting chemo.
SIP founder here…. I took a flight earlier this week and had the worst case scenario of being surrounded by sick people on three sides, none of whom were masked. I fortunately didn’t get sick, as my n95 and SIPmask did their job and limited my exposure.
ps - I really wish people would be good neighbors and cover up when sick! Seems like basic human decency. It’s bc of their lack of common courtesy that we have to take extra precaution, but at least we now have the tools to!
Stay safe out there, and have a great holiday wknd!
Hi SIP fam, we just sold out but will be in stock by next week. Any orders made in the next couple days will be the first to ship out on Monday.
Thank you for the support and enthusiasm! We expected a heavy virus season but didn’t anticipate quite this much demand!
Hi SIP fam! SIP has obviously been useful in public, but we wanted to share another use case to help keep your families healthy.
When you're sick and want to protect your family, yet you still need to drink plenty of fluids to help your body recover, try SIPmasking AT HOME
@masknerd
[2/2] The 95% protection is at every moment, not over the duration of two hours. So if you go unmasked for a minute, you're not going from 95% to 94%...you're going from 95% to 0%. Given Omicron's viral load and the viral threshold it takes to infect us, it takes just a second.

Ain't no party like a SIPmask party, cuz a SIPmask party keeps you safe.
So when you see another person in a SIPmask safely drinking, then you gotta give
@amandalhu
some props! 😀
@andromakie
@SIPmask
Have you tried them yet? I’m still hesitant because I don’t trust myself to cut the hole correctly without wrecking seal or hurting myself. But you know how much water I need. Would be a game changer for hospital visits.
@GaloresCircus
@amandalhu
@ghhughes
Thank you for the feedback and making us aware that people were cutting the hole too small during installation! That was almost certainly the issue with your valve.
We've updated the guidance () on the hole size, as well as a step to inspect the valve.
It seems like we all know someone who’s caught Covid in the past couple weeks. Unfortunately it’s not just anecdotal… the data shows it’s on the rise. Stay safe out there this holiday wknd!
We’re back to mandatory N95s in the hospital and y’all out here literally singing about being able to cough on each other on planes. I’m so goddamn tired.
@rehanahbhathal
@amandalhu
Sure does! This is one of the masks we personally use it on. We're actually considering preinstalling our valves on some masks, including the Aura. Is that something you'd be interested in?
🧵 SipMask review. Would love to know your experiences.
@SIPmask
does its job to allow me to drink safely, based on quite a few tests done by third parties, without having to remove my mask, which will be great for flying but it has some design flaws, IMO. 1/

Ensuring you stay adequately hydrated in public spaces is paramount for your health. With the SIP Valve, you can sip water while keeping your mask on, prioritizing both hydration and safety during your outings. Your health is a top priority! 💪
@SunitaReed
We’re considering it! It really depends on if there’s enough demand for a black version to meet the minimum production quantity. We’ll put a ooll out there to find out.
Hi SIP fam, happy Friday! We wanted to let you know that we've updated the install instructions with an easier method to cut the right-sized hole in your mask. Just trace the inner circle of the securing ring!
I recently experienced this... I was visiting my father (high risk) and had picked up a nasty cold on the way there. We both kept masked the entire time I was home, and I was still able to give my body the fluids it needed, without giving my father the germs he didn't need!
With unmasked folks increasing my exposure, I can’t risk pulling off my mask, not even to take a drink. So I’m using an airtight SIP VALVE to safely stay hydrated. Tell us what you think!
With the travel mask mandate lifted, HOW SAFE DO YOU FEEL? When stuck next to unmasked strangers for hours, it takes just a split second to catch Omicron BA.2. I can’t afford to take that chance, not just for myself but for those I care about (my new niece!).
Hi SIP fam, happy Friday! Thank you all for helping us spread the word to the community. You're what turned this from just a good idea to an actual business that helps people!
We'd love to see real-life photos of you all using SIP, so we're running a photo contest! Details...

Great job so thoroughly testing the SIP valve....amazing to see one of our customers do that!
Happy to hear that it passed your tests, and even happier to hear that you'll be using it to protect yourself!
Stay safe out there! Wastewaster data indicates the current surge is the second largest since the pandemic began.
Estimates that Dec 2023 - Feb 2024 will be the peak of the current wave, and that 1 in 3 will be infected with COVID during this timeframe.
Great thinking in utilizing SIP to push through thermometer 🌡️ while staying masked! Especially in a healthcare setting where people around you are coughing and unmasked.

Yesterday got my temp taken thru SIP valve 👍. I placed it high so the 🌡️ could be placed under my tongue. Then immediately put cap on. The chemo suite was full, and there were people coughing unmasked. Thanks!
@BarryHunt008
@LazarusLong13
@BarryHunt008
, when you do test it, can you try it with and without the SIP securing ring? We've found it to be critical in ensuring the airtight seal. Plus it gives one more room for error when cutting the hole. Thanks!
An interesting study we came across.... Long Covid affects 1 in 13 adults, and scientists have found clear differences in the blood of people with long Covid — a key first step in the development of a test to diagnose the illness.
For those in the eastern half of the US, a friendly reminder that masking isn't just for infectious diseases....you can use your masks outdoors to filter out particulate matter!
And if you're spending extended time outdoors and need to hydrate, consider a SIPmask
Wanted to share one of the best charts we've come across! It's just one state, but it gives a great view into the waves of COVID variants over the past 18 months.

And yes, despite anti-maskers, respiratory masks do in fact help prevent Covid & long Covid. Proven science, not flawed 'studies'.

NIOSH doesn’t have a certification for this. But we’ve done quantitative particle testing to ensure our valve doesn’t compromise the efficacy of the mask.

Hi Barry! Glad you love it! Thanks for trying SIP, and for installing it on different masks. This started as a public health initiative, so we love seeing the collaborative effort within the community! Happy Friday!

@SunitaReed
We’ll have to find out! I’m sure there’s a segment that would. But there’s also a larger segment that prefer white, since the most common respirators our users wear are white. There’s just more high quality respirators available in white.
But will look into it!

Let's talk about straws! This week we'll have a series of posts dedicated to all your questions about straws....
Can SIP only be used with the provided straws?
No! The straws we provide are simply starter straws, to help you get used to aiming through the valve.
@masknerd
[1/2] Aaron, thanks for bringing up this topic! Though the 95% mask efficiency does include viral particles from someone coughing/sneezing/talking next to you. So if you're comparing apples to apples, you can't really ignore that sick person.

A simple summary of what we know, three years into the pandemic...
Sadly, more than 1 million Americans died from Covid, but public health action saved millions more. The VACCINES WORKED, and SO DID MASKS!

We ran tests this week to simulate what prevented that in Moriah’s valve. The only times we observed a gap was when the mask hole was smaller than 0.625”, squeezing the valve and preventing the valve petals from returning to their original position. (5/6)
@GaloresCircus
Thank you for helping us narrow down the cause to an installation error - the mask hole was cut too small (<0.625"), deforming the valve and preventing it from resealing properly.
We've updated the installation guidance (), plus how to inspect the valve...
@GaloresCircus
@amandalhu
@ghhughes
Great discussion here, and we can understand how this may have made you question the integrity of the seal. Though Moriah's valve was one out of over 50,000 units being used, we take even that one instance seriously. (1/6)

"A high-quality mask (N95 or KN95) can protect the wearer, particularly if it fits well and is worn consistently in crowded indoor spaces. Mask-wearing is crucial for source control because approximately half of the risk of spreading Covid occurs when infected people feel fine."
@ghhughes
(2/2) Thanks for showing us that we need to include better guidance....
To first put the straw in the drink before putting it through the valve! And to not leave the straw exposed to the air when you're not drinking.
If you use proper n95 masks (with straps that go behind the head), it can be a hassle to take off or pull down to take a drink. Hear how Eugenia solved this using SIP!
Hi everyone, I have some hard news to share. Chemo didn’t work for me and I’m now in at-home hospice care. I’ve been spending a lot of time with family & friends and trying to relax. I miss seeing everyone so please reach out if you’d like to visit. Power to the people!
@GaloresCircus
@amandalhu
@ghhughes
Sealing the valve and maintaining mask efficacy was the primary goal during development (our mothers were both immunocompromised and were the inspiration for this product). We had to develop and test it to the point where we were confident it was safe for our mothers! (2/6)
Third of a series of posts about straws!
Flexible vs Rigid straws
• Flexible straws (made of rubber or silicone) aren't rigid enough to overcome the resistance of the valve and push through. Instead they often bend at the shaft when encountering that resistance.
@GaloresCircus
Hi Moriah, that gap certainly shouldn’t be there, as the valve was designed to reseal consistently.
Could you measure the hole you cut into the mask? If it’s smaller than 5/8”, then it could be squeezing and warping the valve, not allowing the valve petals to consistently close.
@GaloresCircus
@amandalhu
@ghhughes
We’ll release updated guidance on installation. Other causes include the valve being used too roughly, wearing out after 30+ days of use, or simply one defective unit out of 50,000.
We take your health & safety very seriously, so feel free to ask any further questions! (6/6)

True, from the recipient side. Though that assumes a constant viral load around you, which isn't reality. That viral load can exponentially increase with sneezing, couging, and even talking. So if the goal is risk mitigation, it's about mitigating against those peaks.
We'd love for you to join our PPE community and learn more about innovative products, mitigation strategies, and connect with other like minded individuals!
ps - If you like the diameter of the starter straw, it's called a Collins straw, typically used for cocktails or coffee.
You can also find similar diameter straws attached to children's juice boxes and milk cartons.
