Keep in mind there are men & women - professional aviators & scientists - buckled into bouncing planes...flying in and out of #Dorian for sake of a better forecast. It's part of the reason there's a Cat. 5 hurricane some 150 mi east of PBI and we're not totally losing our minds.

I’m surprised by the number of comments from non-weather folks saying NHC missed the forecast on Ian. NHC had fantastic forecasts and excellent discussions noting uncertainty in landfall. Media partners communicated this well. Was this message not received by public? Why?

Tip on any hurricane supplies: no matter what you see available online at big box stores, don’t try to online order it. They will not fulfill the order, but at the same time, not inform you they aren’t filling it for 24-48 hrs. Go to the store. This has happened ‘16 ‘17 & ‘19.

Observations: —I have noticed a lack of annoying trolls with this storm, so that’s good. A few, but lower than normal. —Fewer “experts” on tropical weather. —A general respect and understanding of uncertainty, difficulty in pinpointing high-confidence outcomes.

FYI: this is no way to view the hurricane season. Just because there is something "out there" doesn't mean it's destined to have an impact here. A "bullseye" outlook is not good for your health! Dealing with hurricane season is part of living here. Worrying doesn't have to be.
