Any farmers old enough to remember details of what prices of machinery/farm inputs did after the ag boom in the 70’s and high interest rates of the 80’s? The inflation we are seeing now sounds like my dads stories of the 70’s. Feels like decisions now have big repurcussions

Every farmer who has ever been almost stuck or getting stuck can relate to this driver’s thought at around the 12 second mark. “If I just shift my 200 lb body 6” forward or backwards, I’ll be able to adjust the traction of this 45000 lb tractor”. 😂😂

Think I just lost my job. Have been the main sprayer operator on our farm for the last 15 years. Today, our 17 year old @NKrahn5 is flying solo in the sprayer. Have to say it feels good and sad at the same time. #prouddad Think a hammock stand on the sprayer trailer is needed.

And so ends my 25th year of farming. I’ve started to look forward to the last day of the year at the farm. Clean the office & contemplate the past year. 2023 was one of the most stressful years of my career. Hoping ‘24 is a little more forgiving. Bent but not broken.

Farm management chat. Far too much time at conferences and meetings is spent working on the exiting generation of a farm succession plan. And not nearly enough on how to bring in the newest generation into the farm. This is often a 3 generation procedure. Not 2. Thoughts?

My dad just stopped at the farm office. Talking about machinery inflation. He remembered prices of Case 1370’s. New one in 1971 was $17k CAD. New one in 1978 was $71k CAD. That’s higher inflation in % than what we have seen the last few years. Makes me think…

Lots of stress in Canadian ag right now. A lot is weather dependent. Easy to say “it’s out of my control” so we shouldn’t be anxious. Harder to actually do that though. Take a minute to assess yourself and how you are handling the stress.

Friday farm management thought. There has been and continues to be a significant shift happening in what farms are expecting of their ag input suppliers/retailers. I don’t think the traditional retailer is catching on or shifting fast enough.

Been looking for the end of this pass since mid August. Not a great crop. But wasn’t a wreck either. Just too wet from August ‘19 till end of July. Harvest weather was good. Machinery worked great. Very thankful to be done.

Why are those that are so convinced we need to make wholesale changes to society to mitigate climate change focused on the things we need the most? Why not target the “wants” in life? Let’s keep allowing cruise ships but cut fertilizer for the food we grow by 30%??

First of the 2023 trial results are in. Seed vs no seed. Have confirmed that nothing comes up where no seed goes into the ground the first time! Now we see how May 27th corn does. Thankfully only one pass. #plant23

Dreaming of an app or program that would pull in all grain prices from the group of grain buyers we sell to and put them all in one spot so we can view live. And include freight differentials so can easily compare FOB farm pricing. Is this a unicorn? Or something available?

First 26 hrs of the trip started with a bang. No sleep on the plane overnite. Iceland has quite the countryside (volcanic rock and no trees) and city (Reykjavik). Left my phone on the airport shuttle. Good thing for “find my iphone”. 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️ Walked a lot today!

Anyone got an idea on how to break up ice on the farm yard? Got some rain Sunday morning. Yard is a skating rink. Dozer cleats don’t even make much difference. Would a disc work? Ground is mostly frozen underneath.

Suggestion to @Bayer4CropsCA Please consider changing the length of tape on your boxes. If it reaches below the bottom of the cutout for carrying the box, there is little point in having that cutout. Going to need to hire Edward Scissorhands to be the tender truck driver.

Have hauled grain in many different configurations of trucks, trailers, wagons etc. But I think our employee coming home with the last 10 bu of bean screenings in the bucket that wouldn’t fit in the wagon is a first. It wasn’t tarped. 😏. DOT friendly?
