Why isn't anyone talking about the fact that @RoamResearch just raised over $6 million on Wefunder? A venture-backed company raising 2/3 of its seed round just from its users feels like a step-function change in the legitimacy of crowdfunding.

@groundedSAGE pretty standard practice there... you should expect it to keep happening one of my friends got pulled over and "escorted" to an ATM because he wasn't carrying any cash the (relative) lack of corruption in the US is truly a cornerstone of prosperity, often taken for granted

@eigenrobot major UX changes are usually still tested carefully, especially for timeline/trends/explore I'm not working on this change myself, but employees are still dogfooding it. it should be gradually rolled out to users in the next few weeks and the UX may change by then

A math-heavy education will convince you that every problem has an elegant solution. In "real" life there often isn't an elegant solution, but obsessing over finding one will make imperfect solutions better. Knowing when to say "good enough" and take action is the tricky part.

@andersonbcdefg oh I think you still pay the AWS bill. I'm saying that the bill (in theory) will be significantly lower with Snowflake than just brute-force scaling RDS. And the reason AWS doesn't do it is because it's patented (and they still make a lot of money by offering Snowflake on AWS)

Simple EV is just one tool for analysis, not ground truth. 30M is not ~30x better than 950k b/c of diminishing returns. You'd have to argue it's >13.5x better. I'd argue it'd only make you ~1.2x happier

@michaelcurzi not unfair, but substack was heavily publicized while it was happening and has since be reverted the reports a few months ago that NYT and other links were throttled were false. we actually had a cache shard go down. 5 sec timeout before reading through to the underlying db

Many companies focus exclusively on making their interview process thorough & fair. Big mistake. First and foremost, your hiring process needs to be competitive (low friction) to get candidates in the door. Only then can you focus on how you evaluate talent.

@skooookum I use turbotax. working with a professional doesn't save you from the hardest part: collecting all the paperwork I don't see why a professional would be necessary if you don't have anything complicated like investment properties

@rjs Agree in theory, but in practice the Product Engineer role is inherently unstable imo... They command exceptionally high comp as ICs, or become VPEs/founders. PMs outnumbering SWEs/designers was a ZIRP, but great PMs (rare) are still critical for large teams w/ broad scope

@GrantSlatton there actually weren't embeddings for posts until just a few months ago. that is what powering the new version of trends and similar posts. muting a concept would be surprisingly tricky though. most posts are very short, so the embeddings have low signal:noise
