Supports public schools, public hospitals, public housing, public libraries and trade unions
"The job losses in New Zealand are piling up as the government slashes the public service, major media companies close and cut programming and employers in food manufacturing and fashion shut down."
Result of electing a conservative gov't. Beware Queensland. Beware Australia.
I will vote Labor again in the next federal election.
The Labor Government deserves at least another term in office, probably more. It is the only party that governs for the benefit and welfare of most Australian citizens.
$56,346. For those of you who watched the Four Corners program on Cranbrook School, that is the annual fee for a student in Year 11 or 12. Why are schools such as this still receiving millions of dollars of taxpayer funding each year?
Well done to the Albanese Labor Government for opening 58 Medicare Urgent Care Clinics across Australia.
Remind me what the LNP has ever done for the public health of Australian citizens other than oppose.
Anthony Albanese is balanced, thoughtful and industrious. He is certainly the kind of leader Australia needs for these times. We are fortunate to have him as our Prime Minister.
The Liberal Party holds just 6 of the 39 seats in Victoria.
And Labor has comfortably held on to the seat of Dunkley.
Despite the Liberal spin, it is clear that the sensible people of Victoria can see that the Libs have nothing to offer except negativity and incompetence.
Three reasons never to vote LNP:
1. Robodebt (it was illegal)
2. Robodebt (it negatively affected hundreds of thousands of our people and took some of their lives)
3. Robodebt (no apology from the LNP)
Labor said they would deliver the Stage 3 tax cuts in full. It seems that they are delivering them even better than that by making sure that everyone gets a tax cut and most people will get a higher tax cut than the LNP would have given. Seems fair, and good government.
One of the problems with Tony Abbott is not that he broke a promise, he just didn't keep any. His conduct makes any criticism of Anthony Albanese for improving tax cuts by making them fairer quite laughable and ridiculous.
Canada has passed a law that prevents anyone who is not a citizen or a permanent resident from buying residential property there for the next two years. Should we be doing the same in Australia?
Just to remind everyone that the Labor Government is not perfect (no Government ever is), but it is much better than any current alternative in Australia, particularly the motley collection of right-wingers that falsely calls itself Liberal.
Sussan Ley has been a Member of the House of Representatives for 22 years. What are her positive achievements for our country. I know that she has made property investments for herself, but what has she achieved for the nation?
We need to replace the term 'dole bludgers' for those who have to eke out an existence on unemployment benefits with 'tax bludgers' for those wealthy individuals and businesses who avoid paying a fair share of tax.
Australia does not have a Liberal Party in any interpretation of the word 'liberal'. What we have is a right-wing populist party that seeks to divide us on race, income, gender, education and ethnicity.
Just to make it clear, the inflation rate is now lower than what it was under the Morrison LNP Government and much lower than it was than when Labor won the last election. Most of our current economic and social problems are a Liberal legacy.
Reasons not to support the LNP:
1 Unlawful Robodebt disaster
2 Financial waste, corruption and incompetence
3 Destructive climate policy history
4 Nuclear nonsense
5 Treatment of the vulnerable
6 History of poor treatment of women
7 Unintelligent leadership
8 Undermine Medicare
@colonelhogans
Just because Laura Tingle is opposed to racism, Dutton calls her "Greens/Labor supporter". Is he implying that racism is a core LNP value (together with nuclear power fantasies)?
Whether we agree with it or not, there is no difference in the policy and treatment of people arriving in Australia by boat and seeking asylum. Peter Dutton is being deceitful and divisive in his current statements. He is willing to create fear and exploit prejudice to win votes.
"When the facts change, I change my mind. What do you do?" (attributed to economist John Maynard Keynes)
That applies to the Stage 3 tax cuts. Labor has not only changed them, it has changed them for the better. That is why the right-wingers are so angry.
A significance difference between Labor and the LNP is competence. Labor Ministers are highly competent. The leading members of the LNP are incompetent and some are execrable human beings starting with Dutton and working down.
Peter Dutton would be worried about holding his own seat of Dickson at the next election. He has an incredible candidate against him - Ali France. An amazing women who has faced incredible challenges in life.
Congratulations to the Labor Government for all the positive changes that come into effect today: income tax cuts, pay increases for many workers, increased contributions to superannuation, energy bill rebates, to name just a few.
I support Labor. I also support the Jobseeker payment being increased to a level that people can live on. The LNP would never do it. Labor can. Labor should. Labor must.
"In 1998, the Howard government introduced the Job Network, which encouraged independent providers from the private and community sectors to compete to find jobs for the unemployed, helping the old government-run service to die a slow death."
Another John Howard LNP failure.
Well done to the Albanese Labor Government for its plan to reduce the HECS debt of over 3 million of our citizens. Yet another measure that benefits our country.
@JulianAndrew63
Patricia Karvelas, who I do not dislike, should remember that she works for the publicly funded ABC and not for the privately funded LNP. She needs to strive harder for objectivity and neutrality. She should certainly avoid being a parrot for the LNP.
@PaulineHansonOz
Well done, Ray Martin. Those who speak in support of the Voice have so much more credibility than the paid and self-interested opponents of it.
@PeterDutton_MP
Yes, Jodie Belyea was a great Labor candidate who won the seat and she will continue to serve her community well. She increased the Labor primary vote in the seat with the help of the fantastic Labor volunteers.
I reject the LNP position that Albanese 'lied' about Stage 3 tax cuts. Labor had a position on them which, as a result of changing circumstances has changed for the better. The tax cuts have been modified and extended to more people. That is good government.
@sallymcmanus
Qantas seems to have done well, but the main, if not sole, beneficiary seems to have been Alan Joyce. Not the workers. Not the passengers. And not the reputation of the airline.
@sussanley
Is Sussan Ley suggesting that it is ok for women to be assaulted by people who are not 'foreign'?
Is she suggesting that Labor is responsible for assaults on women.
I find her post to be offensive, opportunistic and irresponsible.
@SenatorCash
Michaelia Cash (aptly named) pretends to care for battling Australians. Why then has she always argued to keep wages, superannuation, pensions and Centrelink payments down? And done nothing about protecting workers from exploitation including age theft?
"Nuclear power would be the most expensive source of new energy for Australia, a report from the CSIRO and energy market regulator has estimated."
What do the LNP and its nuclear power advocate friends say now?
@KobieThatcher
Neither Trump, the convicted felon, nor Farage, the wrecker behind BREXIT, will ever lead their respective countries. Meanwhile, Australia is being saved from the LNP by a highly capable Labor Government.
Our Prime Minister, Anthony Albanese, made the right decision to support Australia and our people instead of the LNP Stage 3 tax cuts. Congratulations on making the right decision.
There is no Liberal Party, only a motley collection of right-wingers, libertarians, self-serving opportunists, charlatans, chancers, Neanderthals and various fundamentalists who masquerade under that party name.
Dutton and his followers set out from the outset to destroy this referendum by dividing Australians for his and their base political goals. It was never about discussing or even debating the referendum question in a fair, rational and respectful manner.
@andrewrdn463
You have got it wrong. The LNP has always been opposed to Medicare and will do anything and everything to undermine it.
My doctor and many others bulk bill and charge the patient nothing. I would like to see bulk billing made compulsory for all doctors.
@SenatorCash
Clearly Michaelia Cash does not know what the word "united" means. She is only capable of dividing people, mostly against her arrogant display of entitlement.
@macsween_prue
@SenatorWong
Prue, your comments on Senator Wong's visit as our Foreign Minister to the Middle East are obnoxious on every level. Your parents should be ashamed of you.
@ShiannonC
The LNP is happy to attack the marginalised, refugees, the poor, the battlers, those on low pay, people on pensions, the homeless..., but any criticism of the more privileged and the more affluent is termed 'class warfare'.
Dutton and the LNP lack any ability to govern Australia.
They lack the skills, imagination, integrity and intelligence to do so. All they can do is oppose, and they can't even do that very well.
There is a lack of basic intelligence in the LNP. Its leaders lack the ability to govern Australia. Just when you think they are unable to sink lower, Dutton is interviewed and proves that there is nothing there.
@katherinedeves_
Yes, I want Albanese to go on as PM for at least another decade and for his replacement to be our Labor Treasurer, Jim Chalmers. Most Australians support the fairer tax cuts that they have made.
@RupertsConscie1
I have been "caught" tasting Cullen's wine too. Many thousands of Australians have visited the Cullen vineyards at Margaret River and tasted quality wine. So what? I hope that our Prime Minister enjoyed the wine.
Concerning changes to Stage 3 tax cuts: The treasurer said the motivating factor for the changes was that they would benefit "the many" rather than "the few". (ABC)
Sounds right to me and what we want from a Labor Government.
@KobieThatcher
So, you are an expert on "obvious" terrorist attacks, the NSW Police and mental health issues. Earlier today you were showing off how you look in high heels. Is there no limit to your talents?
I do not want to hear LNP members (not in government) constantly being interviewed telling Labor (in government) how to govern. They can, however, tell us about what they did in their 9 years of government. They could start with Robodebt.
@ShiannonC
I spent time on the picket lines with many other members of the community - young and old, rich and poor, workers and students, male and female... This was an attack on unions and traditional Australian values by John Howard, Peter Reith and the LNP.
@macsween_prue
People like Prue MacSween and what she represents, not children, parents and teachers, provide more reason to fear for the future of Australia. Briefly, she is minuscule-minded and noxiously nasty.
@AgnusMunshin
You are asking Sussan Ley to think this through. That is something she is unable to do (unless it is about buying investment properties).
I often hear Liberal Party leaders talking about values, although they do not specify what they are. Discrimination against the poor and marginalised? Entitlements for the rich? Privatisation? Maintaining economic and social inequality? Bigotry? Is that all?
In Nov 1997 the then Liberal Treasurer, Peter Costello, shocked people when he announced he'd signed off on the sale of $2 billion worth of Australian gold bullion. On the day he announced the sale the price was around $US306 an ounce. Another Liberal dud.
@randlight
The schools concerned are businesses. They charge fees, some of them in the tens of thousands of dollars, receive significant government funding and get tax exemptions. They are very well resourced compared to most public schools. We need more equity in our society.
@AmeliaBee7
Vikki Campion needs to be reminded that Anthony Albanese is our Prime Minister. Does she have the expenses incurred by all of Scott Morrison's trips? Has she written about them?
@TaskerLady89977
No. My reasons are that Peter Dutton is weak, dishonest and opportunistic. He always seek to divide Australians if he thinks he can score political points. He appeals to and tries to exploit people's basic instincts, particularly their fears and prejudices. He is not a leader.
@ShiannonC
"Suck a lemon, incelbators. You’re puerile apoplectic tantrums are an absolute delight."
Thanks, Shiannon. I was neutral about Taylor Swift. Now I am a supporter.
"Aged care workers have won their years-long Fair Work case for a wage rise of up to 28 per cent for the entire sector." Increases between 7 and 28%.
In contrast, the LNP consistently opposed wage increases for most workers, especially lower paid ones.
@Marcus78216830
If Australia is 'spiralling down' it is because of the LNP and other right-wing parties and their backers.
It is ridiculous to claim that Marxism (whatever you mean by that) is taking over Australia. Most of our recent problems link back to uncontrolled abuses of capitalism.
At this stage a 12% swing against the Liberals in Tasmania after calling an early election, with only a chance of forming a minority government, and they are crowing about their "victory". A certain amount of arrogance there.
The LNP is short on policies and long on politics.
Evidence: What did they achieve in nearly a decade of government? What would they do if they were ever elected to govern again? What lessons have they learned from their consistent rejection across Australia?
@strangerous10
"It's going to be permanent forever." Does Freya Leach know what a tautology is?
Saying lots of words quickly and moving your hands is not the same as presenting a rational argument.
Peter Dutton would exploit anything and anyone if he saw a few votes in it. He is a disruptive chancer and a danger to the security and wellbeing of Australia.
@EVERALDATLARGE
@PeterDutton_MP
@HonTonyAbbott
@AlboMP
I am an Australian citizen and I do not live by the values of either Peter Dutton or Tony Abbott. I prefer to live by values that are decent, fair, egalitarian, tolerant and inclusive.
@chaser
In order to avoid having "a gutful of divisive politics", Peter Dutton should keep his mouth firmly closed until the day he comes up with a positive idea.
@KobieThatcher
What are your medical qualifications?
On what evidence do you base your belief?
What level of respect are you showing for Shane Warne's family?
@senatorbabet
@realDonaldTrump
Senator Babet is a disgrace to Australia and a leech on Australian taxpayers. His main loyalty is to Donald Trump. Get him out of the Senate. Better still, get him out of our country.
@sussanley
Labor budgets have been positive. All LNP budgets over a decade were negative, and the LNP left Australia the highest level of debt on record.
Susan, where are you? Just focus on your investment properties because you are hopeless at politics and governing.
@sussanley
Sussan Ley (is it pronounced "lie'?) is as untruthful as she often is. Inflation is down (half what it was when Labor took office). Electricity costs are down and becoming cheaper. Interest rates have stabilised and are likely to go down. Labor deserves a distinction.
