... launching Know Your Train!
There's now 7 train operators taking part, covering over a third of the network. We're planning to grow it yet further, so watch this space... 👀
📰 Really pleased to link up with
@RealtimeTrains
who can now show the type and length of trains on our services. It’s building on the work we’ve been doing on the ScotRail app to show train length plus live & historical loading data.
🛑 There are no passenger train services today around the network, apart from a limited shuttle service at Heathrow Airport.
⚡️ Trains may still be moving around the network and electrified lines remain live, so stay off the tracks.
To all the train crew and crews working on the infrastructure during the Christmas period, thank you for working on our railway to help improve it for all for years to come. 🎅
Following the government advice earlier today we won't be releasing any more functionality targeted at just railway enthusiasts for foreseeable future as it may encourage non-essential travel.
We'll keep working away and have stuff ready for when advice improves. Thanks all! 👋

2019 has seen the biggest change to our little website since we launched in 2012 - when
@networkrail
launched their open data platform. 😁
We're hoping to keep that going with something new every month next year. Some will be small, but we've got a lot planned... on to 2020! 🥳
We've now added
@ScotRail
's class 156, 318 and 320 fleets to Know Your Train.
We've spent some time on the rest of the fleet too to improve their look and make them look closer to the real thing 😉
We are unable to read tweets or provide support at present due to our client being rather broken.
Hopefully this will get fixed soon - but you never know with this place now!
An update on Train Allocations on the blog today, including a new operator. More at
It's been rather rail enthusiast heavy recently as we catch up with developments during lockdown, but our next update in a few weeks will be very much for everyone.
We're aware of an issue that means most operators participating in Know Your Train have no data being displayed, we're currently investigating the cause with the supplier of the data feed.
It's not something within our control but we are doing our best to look into it.
The original livery HST that operated
@LNER
's
#HSTFarewell
is off to Ely for storage tomorrow.
It leaves Edinburgh's Craigentinny depot at 0441 and heads south, reaching Newcastle 0633, York 0806, Peterborough 0930 and Ely station 1009.

Christmas looks a bit different for many this year. We hope that, despite this, everyone has the best Christmas possible.
To all of the workers today who continue to keep us safe, well and help keep the country moving, thank you.

We are up in the Scottish Highlands for the rest of this week getting timings so we can provide accurate arrival/departure times after the fact. Some parts of Highland Main Line now have modern signalling, which makes it possible to do this.
🎅 We hear the final preparations are being made at North Pole for Santa's run with Rudolph the Red-Nosed Power Car around the country this evening.
You can stay up to date at 🎅
🎅 Looks like Santa has been to all the stations! Who managed to see the train? (Although you should all be asleep 😉) 🎅
Just need to wait for it to get back to North Pole now!

Another chance to see the LNER original livery HST today in Scotland.

Update on the badges! We have 175 available to buy - if there’s enough interest we will get more in. £5 per badge incl P&P. Available to buy on Monday.
For supported
@ScotRail
services, we've made a minor improvement to our detailed location to show train lengths to provide more info and aid social distancing. Please continue to only travel if it is essential. Thank you.
More info about the change is at
Our shop will be offline from tonight until later this week while we perform some software upgrades.
When it returns, we'll have a whole trove of new RTT &
@RailMiles
merch available for purchase. 👀
⚠️ There is a limited train service in some areas of the network today.
⚡️ Trains may still be moving around the network and electrified lines remain live, so stay off the tracks.
ℹ️ Apart from at Heathrow Airport, there are no passenger services on the full network today.
⚠️ Railway tracks are dangerous. Even if there are no passenger trains, freight trains will continue to operate and electrified tracks remain live. Do not trespass on any railway track.
Something different today on the blog - the new timetable starts tomorrow so we are taking a look at it in numbers. Nearly 7 million miles a week covered by services in the new timetable! 😮
🎵 Away on a ranger, no trains now they said
The spotter laid down their hopes of a shed
The greens of the signals lit brightly with glee
A seven coach train arriving indeed 🎵
Last minute platform change meaning you have to dash? 💨
Our new service, Track Your Train, solves that. We'll tell you the platform when it's set, not just as the train rolls in.
Works at all stations along our supported routes from Liverpool Street!
We are aware of an issue with Know Your Train with some train operators today. It’s not within our control but we are led to believe some railway systems are facing issues today meaning we aren’t receiving the data.
It should eventually resolve itself automatically.
Done some investigation into this, and currently expect that they'll be available for £5 each including P&P. We'll make them available for sale before the end of the month. Keep an eye on Twitter or on Facebook for when they are made available.
We said a few days ago that we are working on a lot of new things for 2020.
We've been working over Christmas on a new processor... but what does that entail or mean to you? Find out in our latest blog post. 👇
We've made an improvement to Know Your Train train diagrams on our detailed mode. After a number of requests, we've now made it possible to see train length and facilities info instead of just the unit identities.
More details on the blog:
While it's somewhat quieter (thanks for
#stayinghome
), we're going to do extended maintenance on the site. This will result in "Approaching" and "Arriving" status disappearing for a few days and slowly rolling back out. At platform will remain.
Everything else will remain as now
