PCSX2 2.0 is now LIVE! If you're using the nightly version, you may not notice much of a difference. But if you're still on the stable 1.6.0 release, we're about to blow your mind.

In other news, on Christmas Day (Happy holidays to you all, by the way!) we finally removed the last remenants of the wxWidgets GUI, we are now completely on the new interface and everything aside from guitars is available, but they will be coming soon :)
There's a bunch of rumors going around that we're updating games for Sony. None of this is true. Two people who are no longer associated with the project are doing the updates, not us. I hope this qwells the rumours.
A lot of people were asking for a Vulkan renderer and courtesy of Stenzek (Duckstation) it is finally here! It performs better than OpenGL in a lot of cases on similar blending levels so it should make a couple of harder to run games much easier to play! Thanks Sten!
We've just released a new nightly version with changes done by refraction, which aims to fix post processing on around 120 games! Hopefully less games should exhibit problems when upscaling :) See the full list of games at the link after the screenshots:
As you may have seen in
@pcgamer
we now have the new Qt interface live in our nightly builds!
It is a much more userfiendly interface than the old one and we have Stenzek to thank for doing pretty much all the work! Do note it's not finished, some stuff is incomplete or missing!
Thanks to the user SideProjectsLab, we now have a MAD deinterlacer (Motion Adaptive Deinterlacing), which replaces Blend as the default. This means no more blurry games when moving and you might not even need no interlace patches! Available from 1.7.3574!
Slightly late to the party, but we officially reach menus on all games except one (That we know of) which needs a special controller emulation! Plus all known games at least show something! This is a celebratory moment for PS2 emulation! 🥳
It's all go today; We have also just merged an overhaul of our EE recompiler, bringing a HUGE 20-30% perf boost in EE limited scenarios, ICO actually gained 100% speed! R&C example below more here: Amazing work by Stenzek! Available from 1.7.3582
Refraction has just push some fixes to how rendered colour lookup tables are handled, fixing colour and light occlusion issues in 19 (known) games! Including Burnout 3, Driver Parallel Lines and Sega Model 2 games! Check more out here
Today marks our 20th anniversary since we first released PCSX2 back on March 23rd 2002! It's been a wild ride! Here's to many more to come and thank you to everybody who's helped us or been there along the way. You're all awesome! <3 🥳🥳🥳
As part of the battle to overhaul our performance, Stenzek has made some VU changes which see anything up to a 15% boost in speed when VU limited! Pretty cool stuff, which you can try from nightly 1.7.3183
Some big fixes for some popular games in our hardware renderers! For ages CoD, SpiderMan, Stuntman and True Crime NYC have had texture issues, well, we now have a gamedb workaround/solution so you can enjoy these games upscaled in new builds! Thanks to Sten for his hard work!
Another user request we keep getting, fulfilled! PCSX2 now has Discord Rich Presence in Qt builds, it can be enabled in the "Interface" settings. Enjoy!
One of the long term things that has plagued PCSX2 was getting Onimusha - Dawn of Dreams not to be a broken mess, finally a person named goatman13 actually fixed our mpeg start code detection so it no longer requires a jank patch! Thanks for the contribution! :D
PCSX2 1.6.0 is out!
Huge thanks to everyone that helped get this release ready, over 4 years in the making.
The PCSX2 Dev Team wishes everyone happy emulation with the new release.
Just so you are aware, Windows Defender is flagging our updater as a trojan, be assureed this is a false positive, and there's not much we can do about it but wait it out. Sorry for any inconvenience.
New changes by Stenzek to our texture cache bring some nice perf boosts! GS Dump 2080Ti @ 3x Native: Haunting Ground: 670fps->863fps, Jak 2: 128fps->168fps, Burnout 3: 365fps->580fps, many others getting 5-10% uplifts at 70% the memory and many VRAM spikes (GT4, Dog's Life) gone!
We have a new website! Thanks to the hard work of Vaser, Seapancake and Bositman we've canned the old Joomla style site and come kicking and screaming in tot he modern age :) We think it looks great and hope you guys like it!
Calling all texture modders! Assemble your chocobos, anime sky girls and HD textures, the texture replacement PR which you may have seen in gaming news is now live in our dev builds! Have fun :) We're looking forward to seeing some great stuff!
Burnout fans rejoice! After some encouragement from the modding community replacing the sky with anime girls (Sorry, inside joke!) recently iMineLink fixed the Burnout games sky in hardware mode! No longer do you need to swap to software :) Enjoy!
The next release of PCSX2 is looming ever closer and we're still looking for translations! If you think you can help, please join the crowdin and lend your skills! As thanks we will have your babies*
*will not actually have you babies
tellowkrinkle has just complete work on a pull request which improves threading overhead with the GS thread, meaning on Mac you get up to a 30% perf boost and Windows gets up to a 20% boost when GS limited! (Sorry linux you get 1%) Available from 1.7.3667
Thank you to the new people helping with translations, however, please don't use the machine translations examples if it can be helped, these are not accurate and will be voted down, if you are found to just be using MT, you will be removed. Thank you!
WIP: Getting tired by 8MB memcard limits? the 128MB cards on offer not enough?
Alright, how about 2GB? Final offer!
Shoutouts to Pandubz/(RedPanda4552) for his work rewriting the memorycard/pad system and adding new shinies :)
Okay updater problem resolved! If you're on nightly you will need to update before switching to stable (if you want to). Those who got 2.0.0, please get 2.0.2 release for the fix! Sorry about that :)
We have a little bit of information regarding AetherSX2, clear up some information, and we got to have a little play! It's all a bit exciting :)
Read more on our site:
We have some more nice fixes from refraction in the latest 1.7.3095 build! After improving the handling of anti-aliased triangles in the hardware renderer, it's fixed some long standing graphical issues in Final Fantasy X, Trapt and Bakusou Dekotora Densetsu, Enjoy!
Hi folks, sorry about the broken update, it was a perfect storm of a change Qt did not working with github builds but pretending it did. This is now resolved, if your build is broken please manually update from apologies for the inconvenience!
Better late than never! Our Q1 2022 progress report is finally available! Lots of things in there to chew over if you like getting stuck in to what's been going on, specifically at the beginning of last year 🙂
Something for the Silent Hill fans! Our lead GS dev has been working hard to fix your flashlight in hardware mode, it will require Fast Texture Invalidation but it now works! Due to how the effect works it won't upscale though, but at least it's there now!
Due to some teething problems with the updater, upgrading from nightly isn't functioning correctly and it's downloading the installer instead of the binary, so if you wish to change to stable, please download it manually from
Little bit late on this one, but Mac users! We now have official builds which get compiled along side all others on our downloads page. No need to wait for random builds on the forum, we also have a Metal renderer (if you didn't know). Enjoy!
One I forgot to post about! Thanks to a fix from Goatman13 to our R (Vector Unit Random) register, you can now play Musashi: Samurai Legend/Musashiden II: Blade Master with no patches and no graphical errors! Amazing how such a small thing can cause so many problems :)
Monster Rancher fans! If you were waiting for Saucer discs to work and tired of getting the same monster, well your time has come! No longer will you just get pumpkin babies thanks to CDVD changes by refraction here ! Available from version 1.7.4278.
Did you know: We have an option in PCSX2 to automatically apply game fixes, so if we know an option a game needs to fix a problem and we have it, we will auto enable it, please tell us if one is missing! GS Auto game fixes also coming very soon :)
We've got some new fixes that have been merged for fans of GTA San Andreas and Romance of the Three Kingdoms games + others! Due to some recent CLUT (Colour lookup table) changes, we no longer have pink dirt in GTA, and invisible text in RotTK :) See more:
Some people were a little confused by our last post thinking the numbers were ingame speed. They are not, they are from GSDumps, which is a snapshot which stresses mainly the GPU, most of the ingame code does not run so FPS is inflated to show GPU limits! Sorry for the confusion!
Another round of
#AccurateEmulation
and once again, it's Rule of Rose! Had a user report a bug that shadows were overlapping the models, but guess what? The PS2 is the same :) Have a look at the dogs feet. This game seems very glitchy lol.
Hey folks! If you weren't aware, translations for the new interface are now open! If you would like to contribute you can sign up for crowdin and go here to add your translations If your language isn't listed, please contact one of the admins on the site
Our frends over at
@redump
are currently doing a fundraiser in order to obtain the last remaining Japanese Playstation 2 titles they're missing in their ongoing preservation effort, and they're asking for some help! If you can help, head over here for info
Windows nightly users: Github Actions updated their Visual Studio for the build runners, so if you're using old VC Runtimes, PCSX2 will likely crash on startup, to resolve this, please update your VC Redist here:
Friend of the Team f0bes has just released his new BIOS dumper for PS2! This one works great and as a bonus, your PS2 BIOS won't randomly be Japanese (which happened with the old dumper)! We hope to make distribute it officially soon, but for now go here!
Sorry for the brief outage! I thought it'd be cute to put our first release date of 2002 as our birthday and twitter decided we joined to young and locked the account, but we're back!
We had somebody come for support saying their graphics were missing on God of War 2. Turns out it's a game bug or a glitch with their savegame! Here's a picture from a real PS2 with that save!
#AccurateEmulation
We recently collabed with our friends over at
@Dolphin_Emu
to give them a hand with their progress report! They do a great write up on the perrils of the console versions of True Crime, definitely worth a read!
@SI_02_
The game will alwasy be a bit of a mess. if you mean it crashing on the menu, set your second controller in the settings to dual shock, I have no idea why but that stops it crashing.
We recently fixed videos for Tekken 4, Smackdown Shut Your Mouth (Titantrons), Gladiator, Egg Mania and Top Trumps and one of our testers (Prafull) made a video about it. You can check it out here!
Note: This is in GPU limited scenarios! This also removes the need for the Conservative Buffer (Large Framebuffer) option, now our Texture Cache can track heights :) Related PRs: -
This won't fix *all* sun bleed issues, but if you know of any other games which may benefit, you can try enabling the "Software CLUT Render" option under the per-game settings, if it helps, let us know and we can make it on automatically in future builds :)
Todays episode of
#AccurateEmulation
involves Rule of Rose PAL. We had a user saying they had a problem with the footstep sounds being inconsistent, so we ran it up on a real console and guess what? It's the same there too! Enjoy a short clip from a real console :)
To anybody who may not be aware, we do have a basic set up guide linked on our download page, so for anybody new it tells you what you need to know in order to get up and running :) Thanks
@pancakegam1ng
!
Oh I should probably also note (to avoid confusion) that the games listed in the pull request will be fixed automatically! the option is only there for testing games which we haven't come across!
@Spiralling_0ut
Savestates are incompatible between versions, but memory cards (proper ingame saves) you can keep, copy your memcards from Documents/PCSX2 in to the new Qt versions memcard folder, then you can select them in Settings->Memcards
@KolomlynskyHSP1
copy your memcards from Documents/PCSX2/memcards in to the new versions memcard folder, then you can insert them in the Settings->Memcards screen.
@sylwahan
I should say that the alignment is still a little wonky and will be until we can make the half pixel offset work for this game without causing further problems, but at least they don't look a mess :D
