No actual artwork this year, but I had to leave a few miniatures out. So that’s positive!
Quite a diverse collection….
Also, I’m running….which is very positive!
So this is a thread for the modelling world to share the work of a seriously amazing modeller who you will know even if you don’t know the name. John Rosengrant has been in the hobby for many years and has produced some of the best dioramas I’ve seen, and a real inspiration.
Photos of the Stg44 show it is often made up of quite a variety of different metals in terms of colours.
I wanted to break up the large chunk of metal to make it more interesting.
Quite pleased with the result.
No metallics were used in painting this.
I have to share Roger Hurkmans latest work.
A Bridge Too Far
Arnhem bridge, September 18 1944. It shows the final moment from Hauptsturmfuhrer Viktor Gräbner being hit in his chest and carried out of his captured Humber MKIV.
You’ve seen the film…
Decals on figures?
Yes!
The collar patches and eagle were added to thinned epoxy putty, cut out then attached to the figure while still soft.
Tricky, but effective, I think!
Tamiya 1/35
So that’s a wrap.
Alpine Miniatures 1/35 US Tanker surveying German anti-tank weapons, 1945.
The figure was painted in 3 days, the base took over 2 weeks!
34 decals on this small display piece.
An absolutely wonderful new release from Life Miniatures.
WAAF Assistant Section Leader 1940-1941 (1/16 scale)
She’s also available in 1/35 scale, as this is a digital sculpt from Sang-Eon Lee, who also painted this beautiful box art version.
Some overall views of my
#kitoff
model that got bigger than intended.
For me, this is a massive achievement, and the biggest project I’ve done since teenage years, and it’s only 12cm across!
Thanks to the Twitter modelling crowd and
@WeHaveWaysPod
for support!
An update on Roger Hurkmans latest work.
British version of the LVT-4 together with the crew and survivors from 48th Royal Marine Commandos where their vehicle was hit by a german boobytrap. The LVT will be placed in a diorama which will depict flooded Walcheren November 44.
Today in 1944, at Cassino in Italy, British anti-tank gunners examine a knocked out German StuG III assault gun. The Sturmgeschütz has had holes punched through its lower glacis by 75mm shells from a Sherman tank.

This has to be shared.
The latest masterpiece by Bill Horan.
We’ve seen in progress pics, this is it finished.
Still one of the best. Always inspiring
“The Storming of Dargai Heights; The Tirah Campaign, 1897” after Vereker Hamilton’s painting.
Painting lizard camo is soooo draining!
I was hating this figure, but the effort to do the camouflage is worth it and I’m changing my mind!
IDF para, 1967
Final update before the base is done…
Flag and patch are from the Gecko decals, added to tinted rolled out epoxy, trimmed and added to the figure.
Then very thin filters of khaki added to “mute” the starkness of the decal.
Remember those bootlaces I was going to sculpt?
I did it! Maybe the most frustrating and insane bit of modelling I’ve done, but totally worth it!
Really adds to the look!
A new 1/35 Commonwealth Bren Gunner is released by HD Models in Italy. Based on photos of Canadians, I believe.
There will be more releases of this subject in the future.
Painted by the legendary Calvin Tan
3 years ago, this was the first figure I posted on here after lots of progress shots.
Although I think it’s pretty decent, I feel I’ve improved in the miniatures I’ve done since.
It marked the change in my account after discovering modelling twitter and
@WeHaveWaysPod
Industrial Light and Magic model makers with the Millennium Falcon for the original Star Wars beginning to add the “greeblies”
Note the 1/35 Panther hulls in the approximate positions in the final design.
So some photos of my finished IDF Para.
Added my own;
Uzi strap
Radio handset coil
Antenna
Chinstrap holding handset
Rope holding radio on packboard
Vertical stripe on helmet
52nd (Lowland) Division, Germany, January 1945
1/35 Scratch Built
I’ve only gone and finished him!
Very very happy how he’s turned out. Can see where I can make improvements on the next one.
Posh camera day means more photos.
Tamiya 1/35 US tanker
Figure in Vallejo Model Colour acrylics.
Jerrycans with AK Real Colors (airbrushed) and Lifecolor (hanpainted highlights/shadows/weathering)

Latest update.
Loving adding paint to epoxy!
Added black buckles to the M1C helmet harness (on helmet liner)
Added khaki helmet straps, with black fittings.
Added brown string on ankle holding M3 knife!
Opens many possibilities!
Have to share this in progress diorama by Roger Hurkmans. He’s usually making dioramas of retreating Germans, but here, it’s Operation Infatuate! Yes, Walcheren in miniature form.
Ok, it’s 42nd Commando, not 52nd Lowland.
It will be awesome though, regardless!
Well, finally the Hürtgen Forest Jeep is finished, bar some minor tweaks! So this is officially the
#kitoff
part from
@WeHaveWaysPod
complete! Phew!
My first vehicle in 20 years.
Still the rest of the vignette to finish.
During my research it turns out all entrenching tool holders are not the same!
Having a yellow one adds some variety in the unit.
Of course it will be mostly covered by his Stg44.
The final figure. Posh camera. Very close up.
There will be more photos.
US 5th Armored Division - Tangermunde, Germany April 1945
Tamiya 1/35 US Infantry Scout out of the box.
And I admit I do love painting the details, like the U.S. stencilling on the water bottle.
The more you do it, the easier it gets. But you still take a deep breath.
My World Model Expo results 4:
My scratch built 52nd Lowland Division Jock, a subject I only did after discovering
@WeHaveWaysPod
and
@AndyAitcheson
, won me another bronze in the Masters Open category. So chuffed for this one!

He’s not on Twitter, but the master of the scratch built figure is Bill Horan. He’s inspired me for over 4 decades now.
Here is his latest - it has to shared;
A Private of the Highland Light Infantry at Tel-el-Kebir, 1882.
Simple but very effective animation.

entry last year for

. It got a highly commended in my he Masters Diorama category!
Great Model Meet Zoom tonight, thanks
@RedFiveModels
for hosting!
I mentioned Adrian Bay and showed a large scale Space Wolf from
WH40K so I thought I’d share some of his other work.
He likes proper gritty stuff. Mostly scratch built in 1/24 (75mm) painted in enamels!
A friend I’ve known for decades from the pub, Hugo, turns out to be a pretty impressive modeller! Lives just up the road from me!
He just finished this on his cardboard base.
Someone on Facebook pointed out the ankles looked odd…very skinny.
They were right and in the end I had to fix it.
A new thing for me, I added the boot colour paint to the epoxy putty and widened them. I don’t have to deal with “raw” coloured epoxy now!
Ok…a friend pointed out his left thumb wasn’t right. He wasn’t wrong! Then it played on me, and I had to fix it….even though it’s nearly finished.
Scraped away the old one and added a new one. I think it’s an improvement.
Can’t help myself!
Painting a 1/35 Head.
Orb’s Way.
Which is a load of rubbish, because my way changes on every figure.
But this will outline what I do on most figures.
I’ll add paint references later, but exact colours aren’t the point here.
All acrylics.
This figure is a retrospective piece completed back in 1998. It is a 1/35 scale plastic stock figure from Dragon Models with some minor enhancements like the face, hands and equipment details.
And the pair…just awesome!!

It’s primed!
This will be a new experience for me. Other than a 1/35 Jeep my vehicle painting experience is limited to a GW WH40K Rhino about 20 years ago.
Expect a figure modeller’s approach…
More joy for fans of British AFVs.
1/35 scale, maybe a little too good looking, late war British Tank crew by H3 Models in Korea.
Digitally sculpted by Ho Seo.
@Doctor_Eric_B
And here’s my 51 year old left leg. In 2019, with a 40cm clot in it. In 2019.
I saw the extent of it during an ultrasound. In 2019. Quite a shock. In 2019.
Blood thinners helped get rid of it. Nothing new here…. even in 2019.
