Condoleezza Rice (Stanford) & George W. Bush (SMU) contacting ACC officials to lobby for those schools to get an ACC invite,
@ByPatForde
1st reported. No word if Marshawn Lynch is reaching out on Cal's behalf
Cal football and MBB both have ~top 10 transfer classes, and I think I need to start working on an article about how Cal Legends has basically saved Cal athletics.
The Madsen good feelings are nice but now is a good time to pause and contemplate how badly Cal athletics failed the players that committed to Berkeley over the last 6 years
"During that time with COVID and stuff I was really ready to just stop playing."
Powerful words from Matt Bradley. He said getting taken in by Brian Dutcher, and being welcomed into a brotherhood at San Diego State changed the direction of his life.
Cal getting relegated sucks plenty by itself, but to see so many college football fans basically say “boy I feel awful for Wazzu and OSU, also Cal and Stanford can go to hell” is really adding to my depression over all this.
With three Pac-12 road wins this season, Mark Madsen is one road win away from equaling the number of Pac-12 road wins Mark Fox managed in four seasons.
It’s equal parts fascinating and hilarious that nobody has any clue what Justin Wilcox’s opinion is on anything. An absolute enigma who refuses to open up. I deeply respect it.
I’m broadly supportive of the Cal burner movement but I’ll admit that I have this feeling deep in my soul every time we Cal fans get national attention
A small bit of happy, personal news - just found out that I have passed all steps in the audition process and am currently in the contestant pool to potentially be a Jeopardy contestant over the next 18 months. No guarantee, but still exciting!
I never really doubted that Madsen would start getting high school recruiting wins to go along with the portal wins but that doesn’t mean that beating out Kansas for a top 50 player doesn’t feel AWESOME
There's a universe where Cal hits a FG against Auburn and converts that 2 point try and we're 5-3 and very likely bowling, and then I think about how Cal is 3-12 in one score games since 2021.

@SBN_BillC
: Cal’s Off is 32 in success rate
Me: That’s good!
Bill: And 122 in explosiveness
Me: That’s bad
Bill: But 31 in average field position
Me: That’s good!
Bill: And 125 in finishing drives
Me: That’s bad
Bill: And 120 in turnovers
Me: /1,000 yard stare
Bill: That’s bad
One of the coolest ongoing bits of the Tedford era was when the Next Great RB got a series in the 2nd quarter to spell the starter and immediately demonstrated that he was legit
Day 40- Jahvid Best introduces the bears fans to what the future holds. Gets smacked by Rico McCoy then rips off a big gain right after. Cal would go on to beat Tennessee
Cal is very unlikely to be able to lean on Jaydn the way they want to, so this game probably comes down to Fernando’s ability to handle pressure and make plays
Madsen’s bears had a nightmare road trip where they played OK and still took a series of brutal losses, and he had his team 100% ready to go in maybe their toughest test of the season
Pac-12 FB, status update:
Ore, Utah: Not on fire
OSU, UCLA: Defense on fire
ASU: Pretending we can't see the embers
WSU: Fired the arsonist
UW: Completely on fire
Stan: Very on fire
USC: SO MANY FLAMES
Zona: Burned down, rubble mostly cleared
Cal: We promise the fire is contained
I DO remember when Cal crushed UCLA in the final game of the rivalry! It is roughly x1,000,000,000 more important to me than any anonymous low tier bowl game!
Remember all the shit they talked three weeks ago?
Fast forward three weeks, and we got to play in SoFi and get a thrilling comeback win, while they had to go to Shreveport and embarrass themselves on national television.
Enjoy the ACC, guys!
I can only roll my eyes so much at this quote. Auburn brought like three sections of fans to Memorial Stadium, the same as pretty much every other power conference team brings. The only teams I can recall who travelled notably well from out east: Ohio State and Tennessee.
Sam Jackson was shocked by how many Auburn fans came out to Cal last year, saying it was an Orange out and that it was louder when Auburn did something good than when Cal did.
Does he think Cal fans will travel like that? “No.”
The 2020 Cal football season is over. Cal's 'amateur' players had to sacrifice an awful lot to play 4 games that were varying degrees of compromised, and I'm disappointed on their behalf that their sacrifices were largely in vain.
@timkawakami
As someone who runs a Cal fan website, I can assure you that we have been discussing this reality with clear eyes for months, if not years.
I hate how announcers feel compelled to describe every action taken by a Stanford player as smart. A fullback was just praised as smart for falling on a loose football. Come frggin’ on.
Hello person I’ve never met and never trolled who I will be muting momentarily, I’m sorry your dumb team is stuck in this crappy conference with my dumb team, and I hope you find the love and psychological help you so clearly need
The preponderance of evidence says that Justin Wilcox is no longer a viable head coach. He can no longer convince recruits to come to Cal, and can no longer convince players to stay at Cal.
In the 5.5 weeks since being announced as Cal's head coach, Mark Madsen has brought in five transfers and has already built a roster that can be projected as reasonably competitive in the Pac-12, and he still has one scholarship left to play with. Incredible
A power conference team losing three straight at home to teams ranked 177, 299, and 253 has got to be unprecedented. I don’t know how to contextualize how bad this is.

There were three plays in this year’s Cheeze-it Bowl that fell into the category of “things I haven’t seen on a football field,” and yet it still paled in comparison to Cal/TCU.
A legendary event that will stand the test of time
Basically all of the Cal transfers are dudes who, if COVID hadn't happened, would be out of eligibility. Which is to say, Cal would have had to replace them in normal circumstances. Time for the last few recruiting classes (which were good classes!) to step forward
Delightful that we're going to finish this season with a minimum of nine combined losses for USC and UCLA, couldn't have happened to a better pair of conference destroying vultures
Currently thinking about how UCLA football is under .500 in Pac-12 since the turn of the millennium and there are UCLA fans out there convinced that UCLA did anything to earn a B1G invite other than existing in a huge media market.
Record in Pac-12 games over the last 6 years, south division:
Todd Graham: 31-23
Jim Mora: 29-26
Kyle Wittingham: 24-30
Rich Rodriguez: 24-30
Mike Macintyre (5 years): 12-33
And, of course, USC under 3 very different head coaches: 38-16
When UCLA fans talk about how much better they are than Cal, it’s worth noting that UCLA FB has been ~.5 games better per season than Cal since 2000 with a 13-11 H2H advantage. Virtually identical results. UCLA is in the B1G due to demographics, not from their .500 FB team
@Dt33345
@NorCalNickW4C
What’s dumb? That UCLA Athletics is far superior? Thats tough shit.
And yeah yeah you FINALLY beat MBB and Football in the same season congrats. Hang a banner.
Major kudos to the Daily Cal for staying on this story, and sadly major demerits to Cal for failing to resolve the situation STILL, so long after their initial knowledge. Knowlton’s continued employment is a scandal
“When the news broke, I just remember thinking, ‘Holy crap, I wasn’t the only one.’”
As 500 days have passed since the OC Register first reported on the alleged abuse of former Cal women’s swim head coach, the aftermath continues to unfold:
Calimony is official. The UC Regents approve a three year plan for UCLA to send $10 million to Cal annually, and will revisit the subject in 2027.
It's a very critical $30 million to buffer the very uncertain future of Cal Athletics.
I'm so wildly impressed with
@curhan71
,
@V_Tino33
, Josh Drayden, and all of the other Cal athletes involved in creating a player's association. Their work and advocacy is so, so inspiring. They're the best our university has to offer.
I don’t want to be the old dude writing a column about how the students need to figure things out but between the penalties and leaving early this has been far from their finest hour
Florida making the same program-humbling mistake made by Oklahoma, Tennessee, Northwestern, North Carolina, Texas, and Ole Miss. Schedule Cal and disaster shall befall you!
LOVE that it’s a night game so that we get all afternoon on a beautiful late summer day to gather and relive Auburn all day long, ya’ll better get to Sproul lot to party this Saturday
Come hang with us Saturday night!!! National TV audience and we’ll bring that JUICE ⚡️🔋

All this Rose Bowl gushing is making me laugh because a few weeks ago I sat in the cold and the rain to watch Cal/UCLA in a dead stadium with like 25,000 other people.
Many thing went wrong for Cal prior to and during tonight’s game. Some of those things were in Cal’s control, others not. That they won in spite of what went wrong is by itself a sign of progress. If the opponent shoots 12-28 from 3 Mark Fox loses by 25
