1/2 Otd 1944. My father was President of the Political Society at his school. In early 1944, he went for the top man, General Dwight Eisenhower, inviting him to address the Society on Monday June 5th (he was very specific about that).

2/2 Less than 2 weeks before the Normandy Landings, he got this reply. ‘Some time in June’ was not in Dad’s letter; and Eton Society notepaper has no address on it. The letter was missing, thought lost, for 50yrs, until unearthed by @ctussaud in a scrapbook!

I write this with some trepidation. This Sunday, 14th, at 10.00 a.m., I will be presenting a two hour slot on MeridianFM 107 about classical music, in an aim to debunk a lot of the negatives which surround it. I’d be honoured if you were able to dip in.

@terry_winter @Andrew_Adonis True. And if Corbyn had galvanised the youth vote in the referendum in the same way he did in the election, the referendum result may have been v different. Why didn’t he? Because he didn’t believe the stance he was taking, that’s why.

@RolandRudd Everyone, on both sides, wants the whole thing over: that is not the same thing as ‘getting on with it’. Leavers are using this ridiculous line to try and make out they speak for the whole country. On a par with that other daft one ‘will of the people’.
