How I make the easiest mayonnaise at home. Despite appearances my hands are well scrubbed after hours of weeding and potting....

My phone was once grabbed by a yob on Liffey St and I unwisely gave chase. Turns out I was accompanied by a Pole, who was faster than me, and the assailant ended up in the iron grip of a bus driver from Ghana who shook him until he released my phone. I love Dublin.
May I just say that I think that
@BootstrapCook
is simply wonderful and that those who are piling on just now are utterly despicable. She has done more good than any of them and I salute her. If you agree, please RT...
Just a reminder that Dublin is packed with excellent restaurants so there's absolutely no need to eat in The Ivy....
The waiters who took on the Ivy restaurant – and won
Right. I'm muting (or blocking where justified) people who are carping about the national response to
#COVID2019
and taking cheap shots at politicians who are doing their best (and much better than some of their equivalents elsewhere).
Negative voices are not doing us any good.
Mick's one great blind spot, dictated by doctrine, is Brexit and its consequences. Well done
@mrjamesob
for holding him to account on this. Otherwise, I'm very much on Mick's side...
'So you did realise you were jeopardising potentially holiday pay, data protection rights, collective consultation, protection for pregnant, part-time and fixed-term workers? I could go on. I did a minute ago. You can play the tape.'
@mrjamesob
challenges Mick Lynch on Brexit.
I don't understand the United States. Even after the Presidential debate it looks like 50:50 Exactly how stupid is the electorate? This is a very serious problem.
Our Taoiseach (PM) is MB BCh BAO and is returning to medicine, doing one hospital shift a week during the
#coronavirus
crisis. That’s pretty impressive.
Bringing this to your notice
@TanDhesi
. At a time when JCB bulldozers have become a symbol of dispossession of Muslim in India, the British Prime minister is riding one in India. This looks like an open endorsement of the humiliation and fascist crudity.
I gather that Gemma O'Doherty (whose lovely late husband, Peter Carvosso was a good friend of mine, and immigrant and a diamond geezer) doesn't know any happy gay people. Gemma, frankly, sucks the happiness out of everyone. She doesn't know any happy people at all...
An Taoiseach
@LeoVaradkar
pulled no punches this evening. Unvarnished truth but proper leadership. Our friends in the UK could really use a PM like this just now. We’re in good hands.
4TH IN THE WORLD AT 20-YEARS OLD.
What. A. Talent.
At just 20-years old, Adeleke made everyone across Ireland dream of a first track medal at the World Championships since Sonia O'Sullivan in 1995.
It wasn't to be today but WOW.. here moment will come.
The future is bright.
Doesn't seem widely known that 146 countries, including 9 in the EU, recognise Palestine as a State. Why is Israel upset at Ireland, Spain and Norway being amongst them?
Bob Geldof doesn't know me from Adam but he's a very civil chap. When I pass him in the street on Holland Park or in Dublin, we always give each other a nod. And tonight I salute him for calling Russell Brand a See You Next Tuesday way back in 2006...
Interesting that the French eat more butter per capita than any other nation. We in Ireland have the best butter in the world but too many have swallowed the crap about saturated fat. The French put taste over propaganda. Chapeau!
I'm raising a glass (of
@TeelingWhiskey
18 Year Old Single Malt) to Aunt Monica (of
@HelenORahilly
) tonight as she has just left us and, having had such a fine spirit herself, it seems apt.
A very little girl on Dun Laoghaire pier early this morning with her dad, big, burly and bearded. And he was wearing a little fairy princess backpack like it's the most natural thing in the world. Which, in the circumstances, it is...
Thinking of anxious kids going back to school. When I was 8 I refused to go and a psychiatrist decided I was anxious about separation from my mother. Nobody asked the reason. I could have told them: the “Christian” Brothers were sadistic bastards.
Covid regulations in restaurants are there to keep customers and staff safe. Restaurants that seek to overturn or ignore them are effectively saying they don't give a toss about people's safety. Not a good look! And I'm sure customers will have long memories.
I'm allergic to the euphemism "passing" for dying. It's death. Pure and simple. Why pretend that it's something less final. (And many of us hope that it's not the absolute end, but sin scéal eile...)
He murdered Yvonne Dunlop, the mother of three small children, using a firebomb. How about paying tribute to her, Michelle?
If you would like to pay tribute to this blameless young woman - a Protestant, as it happens, but it's of no consequence - maybe RT this question?
OK, with Covid absolutely rampant just now, I'll be wearing a mask. You decide for yourself. If anyone wants to demonstrate their remarkably low IQ by challenging me on this, may I just mention that I don't give a TF what you think about this, and, most, likely, anything else...
Thanks to my booster yesterday I have a very sore arm. But I'm now fully integrated into the 5G network and have become uncharacteristically magnetic. Plus more protection against Covid 19, of course.
Now, if you're anti-vac don't reply or comment. You will be blocked instantly.
I'll be wearing a mask in shops and on public transport because I don't want to catch Covid. If this bothers you, can you just fuck right off, please? I don't want to hear your "take" on it, okay?
One aspect of the loudmouth, attention-seeking restaurant owners who publicly flout the Covid rules is that I've never wanted to eat in any of their establishments. Plus, given their lack of concern for customers and staff, just imagine the state of the kitchens.
Vaccinated this morning at Páirc Uí Chaoímh in Cork city. Amazingly efficient operation involving hundreds of cheerful people. Enormously impressive. Thank you
@HSELive
!
Oh my goodness, the
#LateLateToyShow
is pure joy.
(a) What an amazing team put this together
(b) Ryan is the perfect presenter
(c) The fundraising is amazing - for children who need help
(d) Makes me intensely proud to be Irish
(e) RTE is really good at this
The deeply shameful
@ClareDalyMEP
and Mick Wallace MEP would have been busy making the world very unsafe in the 1930s. What a pair of deluded (at best), over-privileged and overpaid gobshites who parrot what Putin says...
John Torode was heard in the English Market today saying loudly to a tv crew “Tell them to be quiet! I’m doing a piece to camera!”
You’re in Cork now, boy. That malarkey won’t wash…
I'm surprisingly delighted that the Queen bunked off Parliament but managed to get to the Windsor Horse Show where she seems to have had a great time. That woman has standards.
So, today someone I know (knew, as I have to say now) died from Covid-19, aged 51, healthy and fit, devastating for his wife and children. And
@VirginMediaIE
have three people IN STUDIO discussing the virus, and how easily it's transmitted. This could be done remotely. WTAF?!!!
Surely the cap of 15 people in outdoor eating areas is a bit daft. Should it not depend on how much space there is and how many covers can be safely accommodated?
This is a personal first. I’ve blocked people for being racist, unpleasant, abusive but today I departed from my usual pattern and blocked someone merely for being an irritating gobshite. Life is too short...
Languages heard on no. 7 bus southbound this pm in Dublin: Spanish, Italian, Polish, Hindi, Mandarin, Arabic, GB English, US English, IRL English, in that order. I think it's great.
I am grateful to a vile, hate-filled racist and failed EP candidate for drawing my attention to the fact that Longford has a cracking ethnic food scene. And some lovely primary schools too.
Surely
@DonnellyStephen
it's time to specify masks instead of "face coverings"? Too many restaurants and pubs are using visors - meaning that staff are breathing over customers and food/drink being served.
What do you think
@astaines
?
So delighted to be joining the brilliant team
@ST__Ireland
Starting this Sunday with a piece about asparagus. And that’s just for starters. So to speak…
Just imagine the average day and safe bed of the TDs who refused to applaud the Ukrainian leader and contrast it with his, and that of his fellow citizens. What a smug, self-satisfied, pampered, doctrinaire bunch of overpaid gobshites!
If you really want to know what's happening in Britain today (and for those of us in Ireland, it may be just too much, of course), just follow
@mrjamesob
or listen to him on
@LBC
Fellow Irish citizens: I don't care who you vote for (well, provided they are not racists, okay?) but JUST VOTE!! People have died or the right to do so. It's a duty!
Infuriating press release this morning, claiming that fat-free yoghurt is "healthier".
Fat-free yoghurt is a contradiction in terms.
Or, to put it another way, an abomination.
Chancer in Wicklow restaurant claiming to own 4 Dublin restaurants inc Michelin star! Complained about everything, ate everything, refused to pay. Yielded in the end. Watch out for “Mr Haddock” and his “daughter”. A Dub apparently.
Ballykilcavan brewery is just 2.5km from the site of the Electric Picnic (
@EPfestival
), but we are not allowed to serve our beers there. The festival claims to be sustainable, but despite our three national sustainability awards, we're still not allowed in. Here's why.
Manager (?) in Fermoy shop with mask at half mask. “I’d prefer if your mask covered your nose,” I said through my mask. Vitriolic stare but she adjusted it. Just about. And walked off. Not taking this shit any more, frankly.
It is terribly unfair on genuine sufferers to say that our professional contrarians - the likes of Dolores, Gemma and John - are mentally ill.
In my view, to use a very old-fashioned phrase of my grandfather's, they are simply bad hats.
Considered watching
#LateLateShow
but find it features toxic toad Nigel Farage. Life is far too short to indulge this nasty piece of work. Gardener’s World for me.
🚨Update - Masks
Masks for Hospitality staff will become optional / matter of choice from February 28th
Leaders agree NPHET recommendations should be accepted via
@rte
This is quite brilliant from
@mrjamesob
explaining to an unrepentant Brexiteer that something horrible, mind-bending, dishonest and actually abusive has been done to him by the charlatans and snake oil salesmen of Vote Leave.
It's concise, to-the-point and completely correct...
'You have to let it go...I didn't turn you into this person'
This is James O'Brien's powerful response to a pro-Brexit caller who labelled him "a snake in the grass".
@mrjamesob
'I don't even like it - so why would I invite them to be here?'
#ElectricPicnic
's Melvin Benn responds to criticism for excluding local breweries from festival
This will achieve absolutely nothing, apart from a lot of trouble for small wine importers and wine producers...
Ireland set to become first country with mandatory health warnings on alcohol
Ignoring the political pulse of the people ….on my first day in Brussels I want to express my deep dissatisfaction with the passing of the Nature Restoration laws without proper consideration by our Dail - and I share the deep disquiet of my colleague
@MichaelFitzTD
It's time to start charging Enoch Burke the actual cost of keeping him fed, watered and warmed in Mountjoy. Some citizens struggle to afford such essentials and he appears to be on full pay, despite owing a fortune in fines.
🗳️ Have you ever been bamboozled by Ireland’s electoral system, or how election counts work under the PR-STV system?
Fear not: I can explain… 🔴 using 🟠 a 🟡 well-known 🟢 chocolate 🔵 sweet 🟣 snack 🟤.
(Other tasty confections are available.
#notspon

Far too many people in Cork’s English Market today and little social distancing. Health shop on Patrick St with all staff wearing visors instead of masks FFS! Last time I shop there.
I will never forget walking along Dorset St and Drumcondra Road 40 years ago tomorrow night as ambulance after ambulance screamed past. Dozens of them. Had no idea what had happened.
#stardustanniversary
The Court will decide, of course, but one can't help sympathising with the Garda who was trying to deal with people displaying utter contempt for human life, ultimately their own.
A garda accused of endangering life during an incident where three men died in a collision in Dublin must face trial before a Circuit Court judge and jury
A stunner amongst the new crop of wines just arrived
@Aldi_Ireland
this bone dry, elegant, perfectly poised Austrian Riesling and it's an amazing €9.99. Stand by for more recommendations as I try to spread some very good news...
