@signor_molevol
the whole 'parents emailing university lecturers/profs about their ADULT child's grade' needs to STOP. I was floored with how often this happened when I taught.
studying astrology makes me more open minded among some 'science-y' people - i've heard many people say 'well there is no mechanism for [thing]'. Just because you don't know or can't currently imagine a mechanism that connects two things doesn't mean it doesn't exist.
@RebeccaAVelo
@stillgray
throwing ice alone in a bathroom to express pent up frustration (that was NOT expressed toward her family or baby) is NOT violent.
@pagingdrsank
we are working on a 2-hit model of endo, where high risk women (due to prenatal & genetic factors) are expected to start developing endo after menarche (even if symptoms don't show up right away). Some researchers suggest high risk girls should do menstrual suppression early
@Wightout66
I don't get why every pro drag-for-kids person brings up this comparison. Can we just agree that sexualization and kids do not belong together?!
@SashaLPC
I've been binge-watching 'Botched' and this very much describes people with plastic surgery obsessions. "one more surgery" and I'll be 'there'.
@chrisbrennan7
I've been recently obsessed with her and her astrology! Her divorce happened when her prog Sun was at 29 Sag, and then she emerges with this more mature aesthetic as she shifts into a Cap cycle. Very beautiful to witness!
@RebeccaAVelo
@stillgray
it is performative, and a bit weird to film it. But doing a physical action to express an intense emotion in a safe environment is not violent. Violence requires a victim! There is no victim here. This could be described as somatic release.
@foodandthings
@amytheartist
@Cernovich
and most of us here [in the west] are so naive to this!! The 'rape culture' of the west concept seems silly when I consider your story
@NeuroSGS
I see it as an overcorrection. (Some) feminists saw people using biology as a justification for sexism so they sought to remove biology instead of the sexism IMO. Obviously much to be said on this topic beyond character limits here.
@NeurolawGuy
@MMKavanagh
I have PhD in biology, and I assure everyone here, that humans cannot change sex. They can change secondary sex characteristics and remove gonads, but they cannot change sex.
@JeremyShawMD
what bothers me is that whether or not puberty blockers should be used to stop the development of normal kids is not a scientific question, it is an unethical question. It's wrong. We don't need science on it. Just stop doing it.
people always talk about how marriage is 'for women', but historically speaking, socially enforced monogamy may even benefit men more by helping insure each man, or nearly each man, can find a mate.
I periodically remember that mormons literally discard their male children to ensure elder men get additional young brides and cant believe we dont talk about it more
@Emmijen
wow <3 "and this is not just connection to other people. think BIGGER. passionate connection to our Works, re- connection to our Dreams, a new connection to Life and the wonder of it All ✨" --> feeling THIS
"In the second wave of radical feminism...sisters gave us rape support centres, domestic violence refuges, women’s shelters, single sex spaces, equality law, changes in divorce and custody law, feminist consciousness raising, feminist groups and contraception."
@JenKteach
@DrKarleenG
The notion that people outside of the 'global north' do not understand that women are the ones who give birth is extremely offensive. How is this not obvious?
@SwipeWright
one cannot write a 'wonderful book explaining evolution' if one refuses to acknowledge some obvious facts such as the reality of sex and sexual reproduction.
@MeghanEMurphy
I am so disgusted by this story, especially being a huge fan of her short stories. I cannot imagine. The biological father was also a huge failure here. So many ADULTS failed this child!
@FreeMediaUS
Breasts removed at detriment to future baby. Testosterone supplementation carries risk to developing fetus. This is not something that should be normalized or celebrated IMO.
@pagingdrsank
thank you! I believe the Italian group led by Vercilini has been writing about this for some time too...that there is a big risk window in 12-19 year olds where the disease is progressing but asymptomatic
@zaelefty
I'm 2/3rds of the way through an evolutionary biology PhD and I've published research on sex differences and am currently working on a project that concerns development of the HPG axis and I agree with everything Zach says.
@BovbjergMarit
@signor_molevol
my mentor advised me to respond in a similar manner! I was a very young/inexperienced sessional when this started happening, so the advice was well received.
@BrendaBaileyBC
this is not a good move. It alienates people who do not use English as a first language and people with language or learning disabilities. It is also dehumanizing.
@MeghanEMurphy
why would you visit someone's house if you can't respect a very basic custom? i've never had a guest balk over taking shoes off. (I'm Canadian though so it's normal)
@Richard_Vixen
I agree with you so much
acceptance is an important path in life
this type of money and effort could be directed to helping women with endo or PCOS, something that is very common and painful
@zaelefty
there are also DIRECT effects of sex chromosomes, particularly of the Y chromosome on the dopaminergic system, which does play roles in motion. these effects are independent of hormones (in rodent studies).
@MariaUloko
I love the information you sharing, but I find it difficult to square your concern for women's health with your use of dehumanizing language like 'vulva owner'. I understand the intention to be inclusive, but it doesn't land well for me.
@clgood
@michaelshermer
@jk_rowling
sex is binary, and trans people exist. Both statements are true. The mechanisms underpinning sexual development are intricate and complex, producing many continuous phenotypes, but people remain organized along a 'small-gamete' path or 'large gamete' path.
as Mercury sloooooows, I proofread and prepare to hit SEND. As Mercury retrogrades, I re-read and study and prepare. As Mercury re-enters Gemini, I defend and bring my BIG project to completion <3
@sentientist
academic censorship occurs way before the publishing phase too. It took me MONTHS to get a very simple study approved by ethics because the board did not want me to use the word 'women' (it was a study about women).
@soulsforsupper
@BezirganMocha
@MediaBezirgan
Regardless of how the male person identified, parents and children were uncomfortable. Are you really advocating for the right of a male with a penis to be naked in front of children when children and their parents say no? What happened to consent?
@RadfemBlack
it is a silly point that just reinforces gender stereotypes that feminists likely want to get away from. The point should be that sex matters, regardless of physical appearance.
@Woman4W
the part that bothers me is that pharmacological manipulation of hormones has effects on developing embryos (clear from research on women using hormones to induce ovulation). We have no idea how artificial hormones used during gender transition prior to pregnancy affects babies!
@SwipeWright
I'm so annoyed at this conversation being limited to circulating testosterone. There are several factors to consider, many of which have been addressed through decades of research and common sense!!!
@TashaBeKnowing
@Kippy_mag_oddi
@pagingdrsank
extreme menstrual pain should never be ignored, I would think. I'm not an MD, and I don't research treatments. I research evolutionary and developmental causes of endo, which can hopefully lead to novel treatment ideas.
@TullipR
It is such a silly point to get stuck on - it doesn't matter what people look like. Sex is real and how it expresses physically varies a lot. Sex-based rights are important regardless of all this!
@zaelefty
it is deeply offensive, and deeply untrue. We can remain critical of how women have been exploited based on our biology, but casting our endowment in this manner is as incorrect as it is irresponsible.
@tarahtalk
@ClosingScore
@stillgray
inside a woman's body, after the placenta detaches, there is an open wound appx the size of 2 fists. Would you go outside and exercise if you have an open wound of that size on your body?
"We understand gender and sex as constructed categories with meanings that have changed over time and are dependent on time periods, geographical location, culture, amongst a range of other factors."
really?? your sex depends on time period and culture and where you live?
A long overdue accountability statement from us reiterating our trans-inclusive stance, our conception of gender & sex and our vision for future of the Feminist Library:

isn't there a group of engineers that argue against this explanation? Plus peer reviewed evidence of demolition chemicals in the surrounding dirt...
@zaelefty
I think that the experience of infertility, or not wanting children, is a big part of the female experience as well. Just as much as pregnancy and being a mother.
