I've been relatively quiet on here since becoming AP for T&L. I've spent the last 3 years watching from afar, learning from some of the very best in the business and magpie-ing (polite for stealing!) some brilliant ideas from the generous people who share their work on here.

Local History is embedded throughout our KS3 curriculum but I worry that students will lose focus of the narrative between enquiries. I’ve created a Big Picture to highlight key developments to students and support their discussions about #Halifax in the past. Productive day!

I feel that AQA missed an important opportunity when attitudes towards mental health were not included on the GCSE Health spec. I’m hoping to bridge that gap and give students more understanding of such a significant topic through these tasks. Local links included too!

Reports on the AQA History summer exams are now available on Centre Services for those interested. 🧠 It seems that AQA are surprised by gaps in knowledge. It’s easy to see why students have these gaps. Delivering 4 huge units across 2 years is almost an impossible task. 1/2

The fact that a Grade 9 is circa 70% (similar to 2019) demonstrates this problem perfectly. Level 4 answers are the ‘cherry on the top’ and Level 2 (evidence) & Level 3 (explanations) points secure the top grades for students. Not the best way to prepare for A Level.. 2/2
