Hi John, 1) All languages that humans use now & have used in the past have been created. 2) A ‘Scots language creator’ means to be someone who creates content in the Scots language for consumption, ie poetry, books, songs, TV, whatever, not that they’re inventing a language.

Hi Hugh, The Scots language that DC Thompson use was not ‘invented’ by them. They use a dialect of Modren (Modern) Scots, as does every Scots speaker living today. ‘Auld’ or Old Scots has transitioned into Modren Scots by about 1700.

I’m afraid this is incorrect. Scots is a recognised language. The Labour Govt under Tony Blair ratified the Council of Europe’s ‘Charter of Regional & Minority Languages’ incl. Scots, when you were Secretary of State for Scotland. I accept of course that you may not remember it.

There is no “Scots language” Having been brought up in Keith speaking English in the Doric dialect & then Edinburgh & Ayrshire with two different dialects of English I can confirm they have similarities but also major differences but all with the same English grammar.

When you see one of the loveliest people on Scottish Twitter getting xenophobia from unionists for having not been born Scottish, it gives you a sense of irony over how much they like to say ‘civic and joyous’ whenever they make a dig about pro-indy people.

Hi Nancy, Thanks for this comment. The classism you exhibit in this is precisely the reason why so many children over generations were made to feel ashamed - and in some cases, physically assaulted - for speaking in Scots. Thankfully we’ve reached the 21st century though.
