New Ukrainian classmate yesterday for my 6 year old. They walked out of school holding hands. My daughter says they’re teaching each other their languages in the yard, using facial expressions and hands gestures. Children should run the world.

Delighted to be selected as Chair of the Bray Head SAAO management committee tonight. The SAAO was achieved largely due to work by Green activism pre 2008 when politics was a cold place for a Green. Happy to play a role in protecting local natural heritage.

Wicklow is the first local authority to introduce 30kph periodic speed zones outside all schools. I pushed this at the time of consultation but honestly I didn’t think it would pass. Delighted it did and the signs are now being installed.

Win for pedestrians in Bray. Last year Councillors (majority) voted to raise prime parking space charges by just 20c per hour. This week I secured 10k of that extra income for a new pedestrian crossing at Albert Avenue, direct route between DART and residential area.

Two negative Covid tests in this house today. 26 hours from phone call to tests. 30 hours from tests to results. 10 year old said the test was totally fine and feels quite proud he didn’t close his eyes, unlike the accompanying grown up 😑

So filled with rage that has nowhere to go watching the news of Sarah Everard all day. It taps into the fear so many women have. Meaning no headphones at night, keys in hand walking home, panic when a car slows down or there’s close footsteps. We shouldn’t have to live like this

This is excellent news but where there’s work to be done is in the enforcement. V light touch in my town of Bray and it’s rampant. Particularly important to enforce in areas around schools.

We held vigil for Ashling in Bray. Specifically noted it was organised by ‘women of Wicklow’ no reference to groups or politics. Just a gathering, candles and moment of silence. Out of nowhere a man addressed the crowd about his religious group and tried to say the Our Father.

Amazing to see all the buildings and candles lighting up for #feileacainwaveoflight . Pregnancy loss and stillbirth are some of the loneliest places to occupy. So many of us just ‘got on with it’ afterwards. Talking and healing are essential 🕯

Great news. The #NatureRestorationLaw has been agreed by the EU Environment Council. I’m proud of the work we did in bringing it back to the Council today, when many thought it was dead. It has been restored in the same way nature will when we give it the right resources & space.
