Assistant Head/Y5 teacher, DDSL, Assessment & Curriculum Lead. Forever searching for a work/life balance! Racists and misogynists are not welcome here ✌🏾
I cannot stress the importance of ensuring you have books that your children are represented in, right from EYFS. Books with Black children as main characters. Books that celebrate Afro hair. Books where they get to see people that look like them in a positive light. It matters.
I’ve kept my mouth shut until now about the Queen and everything surrounding it, but I’ve just seen that stewards are giving out blankets to people in The Queue and I’m appalled. Where is this care and concern for the thousands of homeless people sleeping on those same streets?
I’m well aware that there are charities working tirelessly to help the homeless. But they are overworked and underfunded. There could be far more done to help homeless people if they were given more government funding or if the government itself made it a priority for change!
And as for what I do myself to help the homeless, you have absolutely no idea. I could provide lots of details and screenshots of everything I do, but I won’t because this is Twitter and I don’t have to justify myself to anyone on here!
I’m 1 of only 2 teachers striking in my school. Sadly my HT is undermining my strike by covering my class. I’m missing my PPA. I’m still glad to be making a stand

“Staff feel well supported. Their morale is high.” This is a direct quote from the Ofsted report of the most toxic school I have ever worked in and the reason why I will never trust anything Ofsted (in its current form) have to say about teacher workload/well-being
I am really not enjoying teaching at the moment. It’s just too much. I’m an experienced teacher yet I constantly feel like I’m drowning no matter how hard I work.
I haven’t done any work over the holidays- not because I don’t have any to do, I have loads. Every time I thought about it, it was too overwhelming so I just kept putting it off and off and off. And now it’s the final weekend and I just feel so stressed/ anxious. I hate this.
Someone needs to tell men “My teachers didn’t look like you at school”/ “Bet all your students fancy you” is NOT the compliment they think it is. And I work in a primary school ffs.
Every so often the most toxic school/ head that I’ve ever worked in comes on my timeline and I genuinely feel a bit sick whenever I see this person. The potentially long lasting impact of working under a toxic headteacher should never be underestimated.
There were no Black teachers at my primary school or secondary school. It may sound silly, but I’m really pleased no Black child that I’ve ever taught will be able to say the same.
I don’t care when emails are sent. My problem is with the content. Whether they’re sent during evening/ weekends or between 7am-6pm, the actual problem is expecting more, more, more in top of literally everything else. Something has to give. Workload in teaching is INSANE.
I’ve just been told about a school where teachers aren’t allowed to be on dating apps because parents complained 🥴🥴🥴
There really are some horrible schools out there!
I am still averaging a 2am bedtime, waking up earliest 10am, napping throughout the day, haven’t been into school at all or done a single piece of planning or INSET prep 🙃
I’ve seen a few tweets from school leaders bragging that their teachers “willingly” gave up holiday time to attend early INSETs and I hate it. There is SO much pressure to do things “voluntarily” in teaching because it’s “for the kids” or because everyone is doing it.
I absolutely despise it when people tell you not to work at weekends or offer meaningless platitudes like “Don’t work too hard!” so… the lessons are just going to plan themselves are they?
I find it infuriating that every single teacher in my school is part of the NEU but I’ll be the only one on strike tomorrow (the only other teacher who would strike doesn’t work on Thursdays)
A headteacher speaking about the Sewell report:
“How much ‘drill’ and ‘grime’ music do the pupils listen to? How involved is the father in their lives?”
And so it begins.
You bet there are inconsistencies
@BorisJohnson
. Not allowed more than 6 in a park/ garden and people should minimise contact with different households on quick succession, but it’s JUST FINE for 16 in my class, all from different households 🙃
#dailyupdate
I feel so trapped. I can’t afford to take a pay cut and start all over again but the little moments of joy just aren’t enough to make up for all of the stress, workload, endless admin, constant scrutiny, data obsession, DDSL responsibilities etc that my job involves.
I’ve had a terrible day. Really utterly horrific. What do you do to cheer yourself up on those days where you question whether you even want to do this anymore?
Today is my last day at a toxic school and I am BUZZING. I’ve never worked anywhere for only 1 term but this school is straight out of the parody accounts
@FakeHeadteacher
@FakeAmbiAssHead
As if I missed Love Island to go on a date with a man who tried to argue with me, a teacher, about “grade inflation” and “the devaluing of As and A*s” 🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃
Can we all just take a moment to enjoy the fact that my headteacher has just emailed to “reassure” me that after school SATs boosters are still going ahead 🙃🙃🙃
I REALLY hate that in 2020 there are still “educational” resources out there perpetuating stereotypes of Africa and not doing more to emphasise the fact that Africa is in fact a CONTINENT and does NOT consist of countries with homogenous cultures and habitats.
I’ve just found out that some people don’t have an inner voice and my mind is BLOWN. I cannot imagine what it must be like not to have a constant inner monologue. The PEACE?!
Finally remembered to take a picture of my display, shamelessly copied from

If you are a teacher and you think educating children so they know that saying All Lives Matter in response to Black Lives Matter is dangerous, dismissive and wrong is “political bias”, “brainwashing children”, “scary” or “concerning” UNFOLLOW ME.
Is anyone else’s school persona really organised, put together, has everything in hand etc but in actual fact away from school their life is an absolute shit show? Because SAME.
This tweet is for any other Y6 teachers whose pupils are not getting the amazing results tweeted about on here. You are not alone! I’m in the middle of marking my latest assessments (shout out
@_MissieBee
’s 1 page answers) and 🥴🥴🥴🥴🥴
I recently pointed out the lack of concern for staff wellbeing at my school. In response, the Exec HT has arranged a wellbeing activity on a strike day (I am one of only 2 teachers who strike and the other teacher doesn’t work on the wellbeing day).
I just have to laugh.
Now it’s Monday, I am allowing myself to panic because SATs are in a mere matter of days and we are no where near to finishing the maths curriculum 🙃🙃🙃
@GavinWilliamson
Thanks Gav! A thank you tweet is so much better than a pay rise in line with inflation 🥰 Can’t wait to use this tweet to pay my bills 🙂
My school uses highlighters to mark and I absolutely despise it. I’ve tried to change it but every else loves them 😩 It kills me every time I have to ruin a beautiful piece of writing with these disgusting pink and green monstrosities 😭😭😭
In reality, morale was at an all time low and most people were stressed and unhappy. Staff were warned (by the toxic head) that anything said to Ofsted inspectors would get back to her and “reminded” of all the things she had done for us to support well-being.
It’ll be interesting to see whether all the MPs who are so concerned about children’s mental health actually do something about the woefully inadequate funding of children’s mental health services
I’ve spent about half an hour reporting racist comments on Saka’s insta and apparently monkey emojis don’t count as hate speech?! Sort it the fuck out
@instagram
It’s just occurred to me that good old Gav thinks it’s perfectly fine for heads to be working over Christmas, because there’s a crisis etc, so why hasn’t Parliament been recalled? Why is it ok for them to have a holiday?
@MissC_1717
That’s what makes it SO sad. I adore my class. I enjoy the actual teaching. But everything else is just so awful. I’m dreading going to work tomorrow ☹️
@Missy_E39
Or why they feel the need to cut so much funding everywhere. CAHMS referrals through the roof. Children who should not be in mainstream but no space in special schools. Children coming to school hungry. Families with no where else to turn. Who has to pick up the pieces? Us.
“They do not have a good heart if they are racist.” YES! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 PLEASE let 2021 be the year that people stop making excuses for their racist friends and relatives.
@MoanyMr
@miss_rowley
The difference is, I’m sure you’re allowed to wear PPE in your role and all your customers do too.
Also- schools were open during lockdown too.
I haven’t set foot in school since the last day in July and I don’t intend to until the first day in September. If you prefer to get your classroom set up etc before term starts, that’s ok. But it’s also just as ok to leave it until after INSET etc!
@LBC
@AndrewCastle63
Interesting that Chris McGovern didn’t see fit to mention that the private school he was headmaster in had a two week October half term in 2021, will be having another one in 2022 and did so far all the time he was headmaster. Funny how it’s not a bad idea for private schools.
Although I’m happy to finally get to the finish line & escape the Covid factory that my school has turned into, I’ll be going from one extremely stressful situation to another. I’m not looking forward to the holidays at all. Please remember Christmas won’t be merry for everyone.
@KateClanchy1
What a non apology. No acceptance or remorse for a single word YOU have written or the way you at first denied even writing those descriptions. You have learned nothing.
@MHarrison13
@guardian
Do you realise the enormous stress teachers and headteachers are under right now? And that they don’t have the power to change the National Curriculum? If change is what you want, I really don’t understand why you had to include your child’s school in this letter.
What is going on in some schools is truly shocking.
If you’re working in a toxic school GET OUT as soon as your can. The effects it can have on your mental/ physical health are simply not worth staying.
@kelechnekoff
It actually sickens me that they would go to a food bank for a photo op when they have the means to support THOUSANDS of people. Truly revolting.
Three pages in and this disgusting report wants us to teach children to see the positives in slavery, which should now be known as “The Caribbean Experience” as if it was a fucking gap year, filled with fun cultural experiences.
Twitter is the only place I’ve seen (primary) heads claim they don’t care about Y6 SATs. None of the heads I’ve worked under/ heads my IRL friends work for have ever said that 🤷🏾♀️
I know this is probably an unpopular opinion, but I HATE going on residential. As
@_MissieBee
can attest, I’m so far from an outdoorsy girl it’s unreal 🤣 I also hate that because I don’t have children, I’m just expected to go, whereas (IME) colleagues with children get asked.
I’ve truly been shocked at the amount of people who didn’t know it’s not ok to describe people as having “chocolate coloured skin” or “almond shaped eyes”. Especially the teachers. This isn’t a shaming tweet, it’s just a reminder of the work that STILL needs to be done.
@dinorwicport
@miss_rowley
Who are all presumably wearing PPE and/or social distancing. I don’t want to play a game of “Who has it worse?”, those are all valuable professions. But people need to remember primary especially is doing all of this with zero PPE and no social distancing.
@SkyNews
You know what else has an impact on children? When MPs vote against feeding them. Or when school funding is cut yet again. Or when schools are expecting to fund teacher pay increases out of already decreasing budgets.
If Matt Hancock truly cared about the provision for dyslexic children, he would be calling for schools to be funded properly.
All this tweet shows is that he has absolutely no idea what goes on in schools.
Today I’m calling for universal dyslexia screening in every primary school and improved teacher training for dyslexia
It is an outrage that only 1 in 5 dyslexic children leave school identified & that teachers do not need training to support dyslexic children
This must change
Look what I spotted on my walk today! I absolutely adore Rocket and the Look Up!/Clean Up! books so this was such a nice surprise
