The root of the word Reality is Realis, latin for relating to things/phenomena. In short, there’s no such thing as an independent thing called reality: there’s only each individual’s way of relating to phenomena. That way can be paranoiac, chaotic, reactive, or spacious and free.
@TansuYegen
Bad enough to invent something like this, but imagine actually deciding, whatever the context, to dropping it on a city knowing exactly what it’ll do. To think we humans have this level of disconnect is terrifying… and yet it’s the reality, with no guarantee we won’t do it again
@bartholinite
@YueMillward
Fortunately there are many written testimonies of the cultural revolution that all convey its absolute horror. Thought it was common knowledge but obviously today’s youth doesn’t seem to know, so it’s good we’re having this conversation & remember it’s the same CCP in power now.
@bivins1
@Arsenal
Really?? Surprised they allow this. I mean allowing known fans of certain clubs to referee is certainly worse, but it’s hard to find refs who don’t like football so ok. But this could be completely avoidable I reckon.
@PGDynes
I’m a big lakes fan. Everywhere I go I try to find a lake to swim in. With goggles to explore. Everywhere it’s the same: beds covered in algae as far as you can see. Very little else.
@Generations7080
@LatteFirm
What does this show? That all these people don’t know what they’re talking about. They react to what they see & hear around without any in-depth analysis of their own, like we expect from anyone who creates a platform & makes money from it. Imposters, here just to make some noise

The way Saliba speaks used to make me think maybe he wasn’t… let’s say the brightest, but from this clip I get a sense he’s just very grounded, honest and humble.

Anywhere that’s not inside the area of the windscreen in front of the driver and requires the driver to lose sight of the road is dangerous.

The day I came back to live in France after 17 yrs in Japan, I was surprised how free I felt in my body & looks. Hadn’t realized how much of a constant pressure others gaze & judgement were in Japan.

Yes I’m aware of that particular narrative, and that’s why I mentioned « whatever the context », because my point is not about narratives, it’s beyond them if you will.

Anyone with a modicum of knowledge & interest in the real world would know HK isn’t communist. That you believe it is shows how ignorant you are & you should very be careful about anything you think really, starting from your ideas about American “freedom”. Open your eyes...
@VarlanOlivier
@GaryLineker
Mr Lineker thanks for your genuine, albeit fleeting, concern, but this isn’t a first. This tweet doesn’t reflect well on you but is priceless, in that it perfectly expresses how people react to anything happening outside of Europe and North America: what? Err… ok next.
@MrEwanMorrison
You’re missing his point. His sees through that stuff and goes beyond, it’s the realm of the esoteric, of tantrism, the direct experience of relativism in its absolute. Doctor? Priest? Dancer? No. Being.
@mrjeffu
Most people, Japanese included, do not realize the power and dimension of Shinto and its deities on the land of Japan. In the modern world, only Bhutan in my knowledge, has a major royal lineage that plays this role of go-between between the people and the deities protecting it.
@Inafr_officiel

I know there’s a place in hell for all soldiers and policemen everywhere in this world who use their uniforms and weapons to terrorize those without. One day or another they’ll get a taste of their own medicine.

If you could also mention Tibet from time to time to raise awareness please: they’ve suffered the same kind of fate for more than half a century now & are still struggling to regain their freedom & independence. Thanks for what you’re doing!

Mesut is clearly a class act off the field as well. Not many people, let alone footballers, could have come up with such an honest and responsible statement. I hope everyone at Arsenal supports him on this, and lets him know it.
@CelticFC
A magician. A legend. A top 3 free kick taker in the world. So undervalued in Europe, because he’s Asian, but those who saw him play knew. Celtic & Naka were a match made in heaven, or should I say in Paradise. He’s the reason I’m still a Celtic fan to this day. Thank you Naka!

Can’t remember being taught much either here in France. As you say a lot of focus on the holocaust and the gulags but not much on China… My first real exposure to the horrific truth was via reading Jung Chang’s autobiographical novel Wild Swans.

If you’re a grown up, we recommend you learn to be more subtle and intelligent when you state opinions. And maybe have more interesting opinions but that’s another story.
@Rainmaker1973
Proof again that we have no idea how immense are the consequences of our actions. We’ve been so blind, but even now that we’ve been made more aware and should know better, we carry on polluting our environment - which is just another word for our very own selves. So blind are we.
@RioMoussallem

What this war in Ukraine reveals very clearly: double standards from the West, their media and the general public. Won’t say the R word, no need to and it’s too loaded, but we all know what’s going on.
@_david_ho_
I’m for this decision, but trains are so good? Yes in general they consume much less energy per passenger, but here in France they’re always on strike and if not often late or canceled. In one word they’re unreliable and no one here has opened a bottle of wine to celebrate this.
@climate_kev1
We’re all responsible, but nothing’s going to change indeed if there’s no radical political decision made. So the only option is to rise up to a position where we can make that decision, or at least influence it greatly. Just my opinion.

@mrjeffu
They really do use the same old trope everywhere don’t they. And people really do end up believing it, and that slowly builds up over the years until they end up electing a far right government.

Not sure I completely understand your reasoning but in any case, a humbling account of learning a new language… I’ve had my share of them too (though not to that degree…)!

But in general every time a so called small team wins, all those pundits spend 90% of the time analyzing why the big team lost, because they’ve got no knowledge outside those big teams. It’s a lack of respect, professionalism & just plain curiosity for the sport outside the box.

Needs a big caveat: nowadays you can use ASAP in written business English, even to a client you know. Not so with なるはや, which is very colloquial.

Very interesting. Esoteric Buddhism - or Vajrayana, also never makes any difference between inside and outside, and is practiced on that basis.

Indeed. Sadly every goddam drop of water on earth is polluted. Fukushima water, tainted or not, is just a drop in the ocean of pollution. The problem is happening everywhere everyday since the dawn of industrialization. What do you think shampooing your hair do to the water??
@cguld
It’s so depressing… when you find out again & again that people in power or close to it, who have so much influence on our lives, are the least worthy of it, the least dependable, the least humane. I mean, you or I with zero experience could do a better job than those people.
We can’t comment on this post so I’ll quote it & say as a coverage I don’t see where the bias is. Interview the police?? Who does that. The pro-Israel side? Clearly the protagonists & subject here are the pro-Gaza protesters. If there’s bias the post itself is guilty of it too.
An example of how the Japanese media is covering the crackdown on protest encampments at US college campuses (from left-leaning Asahi TV):
•Israel supporters are described as attacking the pro-Palestine encampment at UCLA.
•The heavy-handed response of the NYPD at Columbia is

What a revelation this was when I discovered it as a teenager. Finally a movie that addressed an inner life that’s just basically not even acknowledged by the educational system and society at large. This kind of art works is so much needed and yet so rare. Thank you Andreï.

You mean the traditional ones and those built up to the eighties? Lots of sukima, small openings and gaps, so more air circulation with the outside.

Ohh I didn’t know. And what a coincidence, I’ve been re-listening to the 13th these last few days after a long hiatus, marveling at their simple but effective ability to create a mood, and at Erickson’s way with words. Thank you Roky for the music.

We don’t know Lacey’s personal history so we’re talking generalities here aren’t we? And in general, most African Americans live in the US because their ancestors were brought from Africa as slaves, whereas Zionists kind of imposed themselves on the locals didn’t they??

An extreeeeeeeeemely rare case of a company actually asking an English native speaker to write the English version of their message. Now how hard was that??

« I’ll walk facing upwards, so that my tears don’t fall, on this lonely night. » It’s the sad lyrics with the optimistic tune that makes this iconic song loved by generation after generation of Japanese.

Wrong. Half of that 6% doesn’t belong to China. It’s called Tibet, it’s a sovereign nation illegally occupied by the Chinese. Stop spreading propaganda.

Good news! But why would it stop the abuse? As long as the CCP is in power, and their ideology intact, they’ll keep repressing any dissent won’t they?
