Bill Clinton is reading not from a teleprompter, but pages of actual paper. Which, for those of us who started covering him in the '92 campaign, means he didn't finish his last version of his speech in time to load it on the teleprompter.
If Democrats lose this fall - and they may well - it won't be because Biden is old. it's because the party spent the last months of the campaign fighting and blaming each other while the GOP rallied around a convicted felon and sex abuser.
When I was reporting in Kosovo, after NATO bombing had ended Milosevic's wars, ethnic Albanians scrawled on city walls: "Thank you Klinton. Thank you Olbrite." (They meant well.) RIP, Madam Secretary Madeleine Albright.
Is it really necessary to do a close-up of Caleb Dressel weeping as he realizes he didn't make the Olympic swimming final? He's an amazing athlete, and an Olympic gold medalist. Give him a break and give him some space.
Nice to see
@morningmika
Morning Joe had an actual Gen Z-er,
@Victorshi2020
, to talk about the Gen Z vote with
@dellavolpe
. The young turnout young people promised actually happened. And Dems owe them their victories.
Only person who has come close to being as good a vote-counter as Pelosi in past couple of decades is Tom DeLay. If she says the votes aren't there, the votes aren't there. If she says she can get the votes, she can.
“House GOP considered putting legislation on floor w/$5-B for border wall as Trump demanded. But leaders eventually told the president that there were not enough votes to pass it”
in other words, Pelosi wasn’t bluffing. she knew where the votes were.
Several Republican members of Congress have said Trump conceded. He has not. He has acknowledged (without mentioning Biden) that a new administration will take over Jan. 20. But he still repeated the lie that he won the election. That is not a concession.
Actually the First Amendment only applies to *government* suppression of free speech. It doesn't guarantee anyone a book contract. I'm pretty sure it's something that must have come up in law school or during a Supreme Court clerkship.
A very personal thread about this story and why I increasingly believe addressing the rot caused by QAnon will be one of the Biden administration’s most important and most difficult tasks.
I appreciate this reporter’s swift and honest correction of a misquote on my views of the Obama presidency. From health care to DADT repeal to the rescue of the auto industry, my appreciation of the great leadership of Barack Obama comes from a very personal place.

On the other side of it - as an unmarried person w/o kids, was always expected to work weekends and nights, since parents "had" to go to kids' soccer games. Not that kid time isn't important. It is. But we all have private lives. I don't have the answer, btw.
My beloved late grandmother said she wanted to come back as a bird, since they were so gentle. I'm getting married tomorrow and there's been this cardinal that keeps hanging out in the yard, perched on the fence or branch. I'm not at all religious but I feel like it's her....
Princess Kate's cancer reminds us that 1) you can be a royal family member, a congressman, etc. and you still have illnesses and family tragedies, and 2) you still get to have your privacy. We don't own people because they are famous or paid with public funds. Godspeed to her.
No one is mentioning his name. But every speaker at
@SenJohnMcCain
's service is sending a message to
@realDonaldTrump
about what character is - and what it is not.
@Bernstein
My husband (longtime mani-pedi fan) was traveling, said they had a $70 men's facial at the hotel (he was curious after I got a facial). I said yeah, good price; get it. Afterward he said... why on earth have I not been getting facials for DECADES? I don't know either.
@JuddLegum
Misogyny runs so much deeper than political ideology. People need to STOP making Weinstein about politics and see it for what it is: gender.
@robinmetalitz
@DanaGoldstein
OK, but in all seriousness - when are they supposed to schedule meetings? During the day, when everyone's at work? There's no convenient time, really...
Trump just referred to the National Archives - the most establishment, stodgiest part of the US gov't - as a "radical left trouble-making organization."
@naomirwolf
ADA doesn't give you the right to shop maskless and infect others. Public accommodations and workplace accommodations only if "reasonable." Your doctor's note can get you out of gym class. Sorry the "lovely young lady" wasn't more responsible.
@amypoeppel
I'm sorry this happened to you! The library staff is appalling. And please - librarians "traumatized" over a book? And.. arguing AGAINST a classic like To Kill a Mockingbird? They need new jobs. They're a scourge. Also, now I want to find your book and read it!
Setting aside the question of how infrequently the Trump press secretaries... took questions, this story is true. It's the first time the *entire* to communications team will be female.
@rgay
Why do people think writers are happy just to get "exposure," as if we don't deserve to be compensated for our work? (Also, you can die from exposure)
@SteveScalise
@MELANIATRUMP
But it was not the “media” that wrote this. It was former WH “press secretary“ Stephanie Grisham (who never Helda press conference) in her book.
There is an enormous difference between being rude and snippy and personal to a reporter (which Biden was, here, unusually) and working aggressively to undermine the very role of a free press in a democracy. Do not equalize them.
Biden adopts Trump playbook - attacking pool reporter
@BoKnowsNews
for asking about Hunter Biden story which has been a focus of President Trump’s campaign over past few days. Fine to attack the story, but why personally insult Bo?
@thomas_lahti
@tressiemcphd
Oh please. Most likely has a cell phone, so no issue of wife or GF. Email is safer all the way around... she can write back at her leisure, choosing her words, and vice versa. What's with all the hostility and judgment here?
@daveweigel
Going to IMDB - no matter the hour - to figure out where I saw that Law and Order character in other TV shows/movies (because *everyone* in acting has L&O on how or her resume...)
@MurbsSox
@yashar
Once at a WH briefing, Dee Dee Myers was going through the schedule, we were asking about an advance text for a speech. She said we'd get one but cautioned: "as you know, the president is a textual deviant." Pretty funny... back in the days when it wasn't open warfare w/press.
@ryanobles
@RepRaskin
@POTUS
Once I was interviewing Sen. Conrad in the hall -he had his adorable dog Dakota with him. Conrad got a call from POTUS (Obama) and I offered to hold Dakota while Conrad took the call. Of course, I knew he'd have to come back for his dog and I cold ask him what Obama said....
Very nice bipartisan appreciation of Officer Eugene Goodman on the Senate floor. All of us who have worked in that beautiful building owe him a debt of gratitude.
@BuffaloFreddy
You are the BEST! Epitomizing the City of Good Neighbors!
( I used to shovel driveways on my street for 50 cents when I was about 8... but it was a LOOOOONNNG time ago! And I tended to get cocoa and a cookie as a tip).
Given the explosion of obscene language and behavior in recent years by (mostly) men in power, I have to wonder if the "outrage" over
@RashidaTlaib
's profanity isn't just a bit about her being "unladylike."
@bphuang12
I am still trying to figure out why anyone thinks Biden - or any other US president - can force a cease-fire. In Gaza or anywhere else.
I've reported in several war zones. If one or both sides wants to keep fighting, they'll do it.
@WashProbs
I was checking out at the CVS on M street, was a little distracted and maybe abrupt, trying to get my change out. Apologized to the cashier, said my mom had died the day before. She shut down the register, walked around to the front of the counter and hugged me.
@SouthernKeeks
You're right- social media is not real life. But in real life, a lot of my Latinos friends and family are incensed today and are not buying Goya. This isn't because the CEO supported the tax bill. It's because he lauded a man who has personally insulated Goya's consumer base.
"You are entitled to your own opinion. You are not entitled to your own facts." This is an old Daniel Patrick Moynihan quote, repeated so many times it's become cliche. Pence has said it twice, as if he thinks it's a zinger.
@ewarren
My (late) mother, after reading a Buffalo News article about how to reduce your fat cat, took her (spherical) calico for a ride in the car and made the cat walk home. The cat was so visibly angry my mom decided it wasn't worth it and let her be fat.
In the 90s, I reported a story in which the president pitted people against each other along religious, racial/ethnic and regional lines for political gain. Discredited the press. Violent suppression of protest. The president was Milosevic, and the nation, Yugoslavia, fell apart.
@RitchieTorres
Half my family is Latino and they see "Latinx" as a creation of a bunch of woke white people who literally want to define Hispanics (whose language is gendered, and they like it). This does does endear them to Democrats - or at least Dem activists who use the term.
Pro tip: if you're losing female voters, don't rant and scream like the guy who does that to his date and waitstaff to the point where she pretends to go to the ladies room, then slips out and blocks his number on her phone.
@LukeRussert
I miss him too, Luke. I do wish he were here to deconstruct the threats to democracy we are facing - and to watch a hot, Josh Allen-led Bills this coming season.
@ConnieSchultz
I'm still not sure which is the worse slur .. people assuming we can't make a big purchase or other big decision without approval of the man in our lives, or assuming we order around the man in our lives. Sigh....
@sixfootcandy
@J9Talley
Once a hairdresser asked me "who did your hair last time?" like he was trying to sound just interested, but there was a judgement in his voice.
And I said, "YOU did."
@andrewMcarney
@Gritty20202
You can't seriously believe that attending your own hard-earned graduation is the same as going to your kid's game. Or church - which you can go to on a varied schedule, or pray on your own time.
@SelfMade0602
Thank for the good sportsman vibes! Both are great teams with great QBs. Of course I want a
@BuffaloBills
win, but want a great game with healthy players coming out of it - both teams.
@StarkFreeorDie
@HagemanforWY
That's not correct - he said he'd pick a woman (no race stated) for veep (and they had to be elected by voters) and a Black woman for SCOTUS (who had to be confirmed by the Senate).
@nickysmokess
I also think Damar reminded us that humanity is more important than winning - and we can all be sports fans and human beings before anything else. Glad you had a good time in the City of Good Neighbors!
@JulianCastro
@tedcruz
Well, if a trans woman can bet a self-described homophobe and a gun safety activist unseats an NRA-backed candidate, and an Af-American man wins statewide after Charlottesville.. yep!
Especially painful and haunting that we lost
@SenJohnMcCain
on the anniversary of Sen. Kennedy's death. I remember McCain, so strong, consoling me when his dear friend from Massachusetts died. Strange thing is - those are the two I wish were here now to help with the grief.
It looks like
#BillsMafia
has taken over the country. This map from

@AdamZientek3
GO BILLS from Washington, DC.
And for the record, I used to watch Bills games on a German TV station in Budapest, Hungary, from 1994-99, when I lived there. Great bar called Champions owned by a Hungarian-American friend named Frank Fekete (bar gone when I visited in 2018).
The White House is the People’s House, so I'm asking for YOU to reply with your questions. I'll answer you in a video this week. Can't wait to hear from you!
Dem leader Hakeem Jeffries, describing Trump as the old boyfriend who won't go away, and keeps trying to have a relationship with the American people: "Bro. We broke up with you for a reason."
I remember going to dinner with her not too many years ago, then dragging my sorry, semi-hungover but to the Hill the next day. Louise, 33 or so years older than me, had been there since early morning, working hard and seemingly unaffected by our late evening.
When I first started covering Congress, I spent a lot of time at House Rules and thus with Louise Slaughter. She represented Rochester with intelligence, grace, spirit, humor and the seemingly incongruous Kentucky twang of her youth. She was always kind to me. RIP Rep. Slaughter.
When my own mom was dying of cancer a few years ago, Louise Slaughter would check on me, offer to let me sit in her office and have tea if I needed a break, and then sent me a beautiful condolence card when mom passed - though she had just lost her own husband.

@CorrectDRWTakes
@NFL_Memes
You mean - like when a NY Jet was fined 5 days AFTER the game again t the Bills for tripping - a penalty which, had it actually been called at the time, would have called back Jets' winning TD? Or no call when the Eagle horse-collared Josh Allen?
Call good; Mahomes a big baby.
@mikerodak
Some of us are old enough to remember when Mayor Jimmy Griffin, during a bad blizzard, told Buffalonians to "stay inside, grab a six pack and watchman good football game."
