Sounds like someone starved your services of doctors to the point of collapse. But you’re grateful they gave you… PA’s instead. This is the epitome of NHS consultant groupthink.

I’ve worked hard not to be drawn into the PA debate on Twitter, as it’s impossible to have nuanced reflection in limited space. However, as we come to end of the year, I reflect that without the PAs in our dept, service would have collapsed at times. Valued & valuable.

Very odd for a group to disregard the guidance of the college that supervises it. You need anaesthetists to supervise you. Yet you deem it fit to override their guidance on scope and supervision. Gravy train is coming to an end. About bloody time too.

@RCoANews The fact you support even 2:1 is embarrassing. It should be 1:1. They’re *supplemantal* and not replacements remember? Thats how you sold it to us. That’s 2 consultants that have now been replaced by 1 consultant and 2 AA’s. Aren’t you the college of anaesthetists?

If I was a PA or an AA… I’d be quite worried. The current generation of trainees is tomorrows consultants. The will be their supervisors. there is much animosity towards the roles and scope creep. I wouldn’t want to be either of those roles tbh.

Isn’t the solution to that to… train more anesthetists? Why is the solution to train more associates instead, there’s no shortage of drs wanting to be anaesthetists. It’s training places that are being held back.
