When I say people need Jesus, I mean the actual person, Jesus. If you spend time getting to know him by reading the gospels, you can begin to truly understand what God is like. Knowing what God is really like is what human beings desperately need. It changes everything.

The problem is not simply that capitalism produces too much, but that it produces the wrong stuff: SUVs, fast fashion and planned obsolescence instead of public transit, affordable housing and universal healthcare. It overuses resources and still fails to meet even basic needs.

Of course they do! They exclude whole portions of the population from free exchange!

We’re struggling these days with the concept of shame. We don’t want to shame anyone, but the problem with that is that we become shameless. Is there a way to hold people accountable for shameful behavior AND respect their dignity? We should use our moral imaginations here.

Stealing a car and setting it a blaze is not a silly decision. Pummeling two innocents and a CTA employee is not a silly decision. Jumping on cars, looting, and vandalizing is not a silly decision. It's all violent, criminal behavior, and it deserves to be demonized, period.
