Enormous, almost unreported problem. Unfathomable numbers of illegals are driving uninsured everywhere, I'd est at least 1 in 20 cars now. No IDs, assets, or ability to be punished. Once a week we get a Guatemalan or Venezuelan totaling a 90k truck and halfway killing the driver.

2yrs ago, we had a fatal in an electric car. Sideswiped by a concrete post at 70ish, car rolled and immediately exploded. Doorbell camera showed it burning even as it tipped. We couldn't get the car put out, FF's scratched out a trench and pushed it in, submerged in water.

FD followed the tow truck billowing smoke. wrecker yard had a lot w/ gravel and shipping containers. Electric cars get thrown there so they don't start secondary fires, every 6mon they flip the container (typically reignite) and when they stop catching fire, they get scrapped

Car's still there, they flipped it a few weeks ago and it started burning again. Reconstruction showed the driver was too fast for conditions, skidded in a turn and hit a concrete mailbox post broadside. It tore open the side of the vehicle and ignited the batteries.

Stayed there the better part of a day, completely dunked. Coroner had a fit because he couldn't get to the remains. Couldn't find a tow-truck willing to tow the hulk once it got dragged out, smoldered ominously for hours. Homeowners were livid about it being in their yard.

@HankHeil It's been an apocalypse in my area. Lot of these restaurants & cafes were only viable via heavy delivery-app use (income without taking up valuable dining space) and adjustable-rate loans / business financing. Food-service simply is not profitable at a 10% interest rate.

I don't know how much they made, but there's no way it turned a profit in three years. It turned a brand-new, upscale development into a slum practically overnight. Those houses are never going to sell, and a lot of those people will need to be dragged out by court orders.

We've had homicides there, holiday brawls in the streets, one house had about 15 Guatemalans living in the downstairs all winter. These houses have been utterly trashed, now the company is trying to sell at a loss to get out of their rental agreements.

Short-term rentals, regarding public safety, are absolute shit-magnets. Drugs, property crime, violence, EMS runs: all way out of proportion to their occupant size. Our 25 unit townhomes can go months without calls, conversely 20 unit apartments are non-stop shitshows.

911 call today, old lady comes to town once a month to buy everything at Walmart. Her total usually rang up two or three hundred, was over $700. She had a heart attack right there and died. I'm not kidding buddy, this actually happened.

You can't fault people for renting, quite the opposite, but month to month rentals attract the lowest rungs of society. Cushman Wakefield was either entirely ignorant of rental dynamics (unlikely) or drunk on spiraling rent prices. It was always going to be a losing idea.
