2B Elvis Andrus.
Andrus had a nice stretch with the Sox late in 2022, firing off a 116 OPS+ while playing shortstop. He will make the move to the keystone in 2023. He will get to 2,000 hits early in the season.
I took Todd Helton’s road stats and doubled them to replace COORS stats.

Who stands out the most?
In 2006, Alfonso Soriano had 46 home runs, 41 doubles, and 41 steals.
He’s the only player in MLB history to post 40-40-40.
He also had a 39-41 season with 51 doubles and a 38-35 season with 36 doubles.
Such a good player
Oh yeah, and he did it as a second baseman!!!
Elly De La Cruz’s April
7 Home Runs
15 Steals (3 tonight)
He is one of just seven players ever to do that in a month - and he has 6 more days to add on!

LF Masataka Yoshida.
Yoshida is coming over after an awesome career in Japan. He slashed .326/.419/.538 for his career, and many projections expect Yoshida to explode as a rookie.
NL players to lead the league in offensive WAR in 3 straight seasons
Wagner (1902-1909)
Hornsby (1919-1925, 1927-1929)
Klein (1931-1933)
Vaughan (1934-1936) 🐐
Musial (1948-1950)
Morgan (1972-1976)
Schmidt (1979-1981)
Bonds (2000-2004)
Pujols (2008-2010)
McCutchen (2012-2014)
Fire alarm thoughts
What’s the hottest stretch you can remember a player having?
I have a personal fondness for the half-season that Kris Medlen simply stopped allowing runs.
Assuming the top 4 on your NL MVP ballot is some order of Ronald Acuña, Matt Olson, Mookie Betts, and Freddie Freeman...
Who would finish your ballot?
Corbin Carroll, Cody Bellinger, Francisco Lindor, Luis Arraez, and others should get plenty of down-ballot support.
Ronald Acuña Tracker:
70 Games Played (70 Team Games)
15 Home Runs
30 Stolen Bases (1 tonight)
On Pace for...
162 Games Played (162 Team Games)
35 Home Runs
69 Stolen Bases
Nice.

3.6+ WAR in <70 Games since 1920
1948: Eddie Stanky (3.9 in 67)
2020: Mookie Betts (3.6 in 55)
2021: Luis Robert (3.6 in 68)
2021: Byron Buxton (4.5 in 61)
Can Robert and Buxton PLEASE be healthy 🤲
Ronald Acuña saw 6 pitches out of the strike zone, swung at none of them, and walked back to the dugout.
I can see why he looks like he’s pressing. Oof
Dan Uggla was hitting .173 when his hit streak began.
He hit .377 over the next 33 games, raising his BA to .232.
One of the strangest streaks ever - from a career .241 hitter!
(.206 ISO and 107 OPS+ at second base though is nice)
Brayan Bello by time of the day
Night: 3.06 ERA, 1.156 WHIP, 3.14 K/BB
Day: 6.94 ERA, 1.750 WHIP, 2.59 K/BB
He was 15th in ERA (out of 136) in night games and 2nd to last (out of 71) in day games.
Is Brayan Bello a vampire?
Trout leads by 20.4.
He’s one year older than Betts.
Betts definitely trims the gap some in the next couple years, but he still probably has to clear 90 (maybe 100?) to beat out Trout.
After all, Trout still had 2.9 bWAR last year in 82 games.
Pages like this are why I love Baseball Reference.
We don’t know Richardson’s
- first name
- handedness (batting or throwing)
- birthday
- death day/place of death
We DO know:
- he committed an error at second base
- he went 0/4
- he has -0.1 WAR
- place of birth
@MLBNetwork
@GrissomVaughn
@Braves
Grissom accumulated 0.8 WAR in 41 games despite posting -4 DRS. He could be in for a solid WAR if he's an average defensive SS.

Defensively too! Modern positioning/shifts/etc has almost certainly aided defensive metrics.
Now I will say that I’ve wondered about what Eddie Collins’ (and others) stats would’ve looked like if they weren’t asked to sac bunt hundreds of times.
Our MLB Power Pros 2024 ratings are LIVE!
We begin with 2023 AL MVP Shohei Ohtani. Now a Dodger, Ohtani will only serve as a DH in 2024. Last season, he led the AL in home runs, on-base percentage, slugging, OPS, OPS+, and total bases!

Frank Thomas (1990-2000) and Albert Pujols (2001-2011) were truly ridiculous.
(And remember Thomas missed parts of 94/95 because of the strike. He slashed .329/.469/.661 for a 194 OPS+ in 94/95)
