It's insane that if you try to find the best 17 game stretch of CC Sabathia's career, any 17 game stretch including crossing seasons, time before or after trades, any hot stretches, etc. The 17 games with the Brewers is exactly the best 17 game stretch of his career.

@SportsTalkATL Ohtani has 21.5% more PA, which even if they are identical with the bat that would explain an additional 0.3 WAR for Ohtani. Then you factor in Ohtani is 61 points of OPS higher and is way better at baserunning and that explains the other 0.7 WAR.

@YankeeWRLD Schwarber is actually a great case for the DH position adjustment being what it is. Him playing the field is a larger knock against him being DH, but his positional inflexibility with Harper being resigned to DH hurts the team.

@nut_history Went by frame in a video editor and using the grass patterns estimated distance. It's around 190-210 ft and comes in at ~1.43 seconds. At 190 feet, it comes to 90.38 mph... at 210 feet it comes to 99.98 mph. There's obviously a margin of error here, but it isn't 109 mph.

I think what Oakland has been doing the last couple of years is terrible and understand wanting to dunk on the organization as much as possible. But... I don't think sending down Esteury Ruiz is as insane as everyone makes it out to be. He has not been a good major leaguer.

@ArialStardust @KnowingBetterYT I just had a friend that just retired at 18 years as a Major because it was clear he wasn't going to get LTC and when they offered early retirement, he took it. When he didn't make the list, he went into complete "fuck the Army" mode and took early retirement when offered.

@AndThatsBB 52 HR per year C. Player A is basically prime Ruth for 12 years but only 74 WAR at catcher... he must allow 10 passed balls a game. Player B is 1982 Robin Yount offense, 1989 Ozzie Smith defense, and Kenny Lofton baserunning... for 16 injury prone years.

The "win 54% of games" or "bites of the apple" strategy is something GMs and team absolutely should do for sustained success in baseball, but they should also realize that fans are not ready for that type of mindset and should keep it to themselves.

Mickey Mantle hit a 656 foot home run at USC that landed on the football field in front of the church. I overlaid a USC map from that time to Google maps and straight line distanced from home to the furthest edge of the football field in front of the church. I got 432 feet.

A pitcher having their fastball speed vary by 3 mph during a game is considered a wide spread... varying by, at a minimum, 13.2 mph is unheard of. It's much more likely that the mechanism measuring the speed and calibration of the machine were extremely imprecise.

The readings during these games were all over the map. In the first inning it had Ryan's fastball topping out at 87.6 mph. Most innings were in the mid-90s with the fourth having an outlier at 98.8. He supposedly cracked 100 in the 9th.

To show how much incorporating catcher framing makes a difference in player value, for Salvador Perez from 2012-2018... Baseball Reference says he was a great defensive catcher worthy of his gold glove awards. Fangraphs says he SUUUUUCKED as a defensive catcher.
