I'm teaching two #bitcoin classes this semester at Texas A&M! One in Engineering, and a new one in Business. The new class focuses on the business and policy of Bitcoin: mining, exchanges, derivatives, tax, regulation, valuation, monetary policy, and international issues.

In my #Bitcoin class this week we made our own Bitcoin addresses from scratch: building the Bitcoin finite field and elliptic curve, picking a private key, generating the public key, and hashing to get the address. A big milestone, and a testament to self sovereignty.

1. The students knew nothing about Bitcoin coming in. They are pre-coiners, not alt-coiners. So the real opportunity is educating new students about Bitcoin, not converting alt-coiners to Bitcoin.

2. No prior class had such broad and deeply interconnected material. This is a referendum on the existing curriculum that teaches a series of disconnected topics. Bitcoin adheres together as a whole --- like projects IRL --- and the students weren't prepare for it.

Start with engineering. Bitcoin combines computer science, math, and social science in unique ways. While all approaches are possible, a computer science class focusing on the protocol stands out. It's where it all began, and it showcases Satoshi's contribution the most.
