@grumpyoldfool62 Justice Lee was concerned about bringing his colleagues reputations into disrepute. That’s the moment he got quite antsy and concerned that Auerbach was settling a score. But Auerbach’s motivation for standing in court is really not that relevant. All that was relevant is truth.

@SuDharmapala That’s some good parenting! Your influence is still the strongest long term. My son’s 22. The softest, kindest person I know. He has always been a up for a cuddle and probably said I Love You Mum every day of his childhood (normally when I’d drop him at school). Keep talking.

I didnt intend to expose my life here, but I think it’s fair to give some context to my anger at the hijacking of the march for violence against women in Canberra, & the misinformation and ill-directed anger that followed. I was a victim of domestic violence for over 3 years. ↩️

Just one more part to the story that I missed. My mental health was low when I went into the relationship, but much lower while in it. I tried suicide twice during and once after. Men die of suicide more than women but women make attempts more often. Mostly unknown and uncounted.

I didn’t die, and I grieve for all the women and children who have. They were caught in the sickness of a very damaged individual. I went on to study psychology and became a psychotherapist. It was an experiential course and it helped me heal. ↩️

We desperately need help from the govt to assist in mental health. For men and women. We need to add psychological health education at school level and we need services and homes available for mental health. We are currently lacking. We need our pollies to understand, ↩️

@WakeWtfu I too am a survivor of domestic violence. My partner beat me so badly I had damage for months. Mostly he hit my head where you couldn’t see the damage from my hair covering it. When he tried to strangle me while I was driving, something in me snapped. And I finally left.

@Kon__K You make a good point regarding the numbers. Most are not reported. I was in a DV relationship when I was very young. And I never reported it. Most of us never want to admit it even to our friends and family. There’s a deep sense of shame and embarrassment. It diminishes us.

I don’t have all the answers to stop domestic violence or violence against women, but I strongly believe that psychologically healthy people do not become perpetrators and psychologically healthy people are less likely to be a victim in a DV relationship. ↩️

Hoping I was near the curb I stopped the car. This was now dangerous. In the past it was painful and I often worried when he punched my head if he was doing permanent damage, but he was capable of killing me. I saw that now. I ordered him out of the car. Amazingly he complied ↩️

It wasn’t that long, maybe a few months, until it happened again. And over time it happened more regularly, and each time he’d cry and say how sorry he was, and it won’t happen again. But each time he was a little less passionate in his pleas for forgiveness. ↩️

I was 18-21, my parents were bitterly divorced and I had an often traumatising childhood. I’d been sexually assaulted as a teen (by fellow teen boys) and I felt vulnerable in the world. I met him in a factory I worked in during school holidays. I ignored his criminal record. ↩️

Not once did I go to the police. They intimidated me for one, but also, I loved this guy. And I was scared of the consequences if I reported him. I kept it secret from everyone around me for all those years. I did all I could to placate him. Particularly after. ↩️
