My 12 came home yesterday from school and told that his teacher told the class that she and her children will be masking after March Break. He was glad to know he will not be the only one masking. And thanks to his awesome teacher!

Happy Easter from our beautiful Angie! So happy to have her home for Easter this year after not having her two years for Easter due to Covid rules that happened at her group home. Isn’t she gorgeous?
My daughter came home from high school yesterday to tell me that 7 out of 18 of her math class students were missing due to having Covid. 39%. 😳

It is disappointing that

I was a nursing student when Harris closed these beds. Any hospital nurse with ten years or less seniority lost their job in many places. Many new grads went to the US never to return including my youngest sister. She been an RN in the US for 21 1/2 years.

Over 11,400 hospital beds cut. Over a third of acute care and chronic care hospital beds were closed.
He was appalled and reinforced to my son if that ever happens again that he should tell the refs so they can stop the game and deal with it. The ref assured me he would follow up and put in a formal report. I am proud of my son for being anti-racist. 3/

As a RN who has worked in LTC in the past, PSWs should not give meds to LTC patients. They are not medically stable and they require the knowledge, skills and judgment of nurses for med admin and assessments pertaining to med efficacy, side effects etc. Most LTC pts = palliative
Today in Alberta if nobody dies in ICU, they are 5 beds away from Triage Protocols. Percent positivity is 9.4%. A friend of mine was admitted to ICU last night in Alberta with Covid. With all my heart I pray she makes it, she has a young son.

In the past week I have heard of one community PSW resigning and one other contemplating quitting due to poor pay and wear and tear on their vehicle. Community PSWs deserve pay equity with LTC and hospital PSWs and they deserve more than $1-2 more than minimum wage.
What happened yesterday across Canada is deplorable & heart-breaking. Many hospitals experienced protesters who are anti-vaxxers, and call themselves “freedom fighters” yet they harassed HCWs, blocked ambulances & verbally and physically assaulted healthcare workers. 1/3

Premier, where are you going to find those nurses and PSWs? I have yet to meet one PSW who was trained for free last year. Also over 4,000 nurses have left homecare in the pandemic. Wage parity is needed across sectors including homecare and Bill 124 must be repealed now.

Keep my sister Angie in your thoughts and prayers. She was in ED last night. She has a nasty sinus infection and started antibiotics. The ED MD was amazing and thorough and also ruled out PE. I am thankful for essential family caregivers who advocate for proper healthcare.
While shopping this week, I ran into a nurse I know who had been working in the community. I asked her if she was still working. She told me she left community nursing for a FT hospital position that pays $10/hr more. The wage disparity in nursing sectors needs addressing. 1/3

No provincial mandate for homecare workers either. Unvaccinated staff can perform medically complex treatments including suctioning, Port-A-Cath access, g-tube management on complex children&adults, most who are immuno-compromised. Hospital and homecare&RH mandates are needed.
To be a part of a patient’s journey with dementia is a privilege. As a nurse, most of my dementia patients are in advanced stages but I always appreciate learning about them-past and present when doing my assessments and care planning. It’s important to look at the whole person.
