Throwback to that time I submitted a script about how cis people prefer trans people that pass or don’t point out they’re trans and my professor being like “you should write a Sharknado”
The way I wasn’t even remotely fazed by any of the sexy parts in Saltburn and the lady next to me looked like she was going to vomit in her popcorn bucket
@dubonicplague
I made a 17 year old boy listen to this other day in class and he was like “bro, why did you make me listen to this? That shit got me stressed out”

If you’re willing to hire Native sensitivity readers and they give you the go ahead, fine. But in my experience reading things, most of the time it just comes across as a lazy solution to break a story and insensitive, but try your shot I don’t care what you write truly
Some of y’all on Screenwriter Twitter would benefit from learning the difference between self-confidence and the telltale signs of narcissistic personality disorder, because you’re praising and boosting assholes... 😖
Screenwriters who try to write horror cause they think it’s easy and do nothing to explore the genre’s diverse history always submit scripts that are like “Okay, so it’s Scream…but guess this, the twist is that instead of a knife, Ghostface uses a hammer” and that’s it
I’m sorry, but y’all are grown ass adults living in a time where there are a dozen websites that list every trigger and instance of nudity/sex/violence in detail. You’re responsible for your own viewing, and if you can’t see how generalizations empower the far right, look deeper
@Addison_Peacock
Always obsessed when a director frames attraction of male bodies by fixating on the forearms cause they’re truly the most attractive part
@JWCM
@BlkAssFeminist
I mean I do care when say writers with mainstream followings and multiple million dollar budgets get away with this kind of thing again and again, but I don’t think I have to worry about that with you so
@Zach_Starnes
I get where you’re coming from. From my experience, I think a lot of writers don’t approach it with that nuance. And have come across multiple editors/writers who intentionally include folklore tied to marginalized communities to attempt to make profits
@WeAreKETURA
@RdotSpoon
From what I understand, it’s for the most part about the fact that more often than not these stories center around white characters and their suffering, while using the supposed otherness of these folklore elements to incite fear in white audiences
We as a society need to start pitching sequels that reconceptualize the premise through a new creative lens instead of just adding a number to the title and repeating the first film. This is such a great premise and offers a ton of thematic potential!
My goal for 2022 was to submit to a total of 10 submission calls, and it’s not even June and I’ve surpassed that and sold 2/3 of my submitted projects so far 🥺🥺🥺
Jenna Ortega says the craziest rumor she’s heard about herself is that she’s in a serious relationship with Johnny Depp:
“I don’t know that person.”

@HerzogEmerson
I stopped attending a critique group after they (all white people) decided to publish a Wendigo anthology. I was given the “writing would be so boring if we only wrote what we knew” speech, and told I had too high expectations for expecting them to come up with original creatures
What I thought my grad school film professors would be like: I’m Professor FilmBro and I only like serious drama films made my auteurs
My actual professors: Yeah, so I think the 2004 sex comedy EuroTrip is the best film ever made by a long shot
Instead of sending my writing out for feedback, I think I’ll just frame my character’s problems as my own and see how my therapist thinks I should resolve things
Ummm, so I got a lot of new followers for calling someone out, which feels weird.
So hi, I’m Justin, a non-binary screenwriter and author, who writes mostly in the realms of horror and crime. My account is mainly just movies and mid-tier jokes, not shade.
@JayKay_BK
Lowkey the only thing getting me through my busted but learning era is learning that things take practice and careers and talents evolve as time passes
@giohalliwell
The way they could’ve leaned into the Olympics angle so hard and had like special correspondents and guests and what not. I assume they’re just not shelling out the money for what they consider to be an international season which makes me so mad
A month ago, I said fuck it to a rewrite to write an apocalyptic vampire romance feature. I didn’t realize how personal this project would be, as I explored past relationships, intimacy , and vulnerability. Hitting fade out was cathartic, this is the best I’ve ever written
If you’re a horror fan and wanna make Spyglass eat their words, they’re announcing this news as Thanksgiving enters its second box-office weekend. It performed strong last week, but if we let it drop significantly and boycott its holiday weekend…

@ReginaKimWrites
So many people have begged me for reads and invited me to work on their stuff, then gone complete radio silence when I need the favor back. It’s exhausting that everything feels so transactional
@Rachael_Conrad
I had a professor in undergrad who told me I was wasting literary talent by writing horror…his academic work focused on Edgar Allen Poe ☠️☠️☠️
Yeah, so Sofi has inserted multiple people from the community into her autobiographical script, some of which were included in sexual scenes without their consent. It’s simply harassment.
So listen. It’s always weird when my writing world meets my Title IX world. It’s disturbing to find out there has been an ongoing “open secret” re: a member of our community that is finally coming to light. Open secrets aren’t all that open and enable further harm. If you are 1/
@Zach_Starnes
Of course, context is important. I am 100% dramatic but also Ive yet to see an example that effectively acknowledges that more often than not, these type of stories (specifically by white writers who use them for shock value) don’t include Native voices besides for exposition
Taika Waititi has had multiple transphobic tweets resurface, including one where he compares trans women to meth heads, and he’s still being called a queer icon cause he played a gay pirate, made some Nazis gay, and gave us 5 minutes of queer content over two MCU films ?
I’ve officially sold every short story in my trunk right now, meaning I have to start coming up with new prose ideas again after like a year of writing backlogged ideas and I’m scared 😱😱😱
I’m sorry, but a white author accusing POC authors of calling out a very powerful white editor as a means of securing a seat at the so-called table is 1) racist and 2) tagging said editor who has very clearly disregarded dialogue is peak “white woman asks for your manager” energy
