@suzania What is it, 9 of 10 suicide survivors don't go on to die of suicide? Is that what the Harvard study found? It's horrifying that we're assuming that everyone who seeks euthanasia is acting without being terribly influenced by poverty, illness, loneliness, pressure, etc.

NYT morning email: more kids should be in school longer, because parents need to work more to afford life in America. What if, instead of putting kids in school at *the age of three*, we tried to build a society where parents *didn't* need to work more just to live?

My town is crushing the Richard Scarry Index today. In a half-hour period, I -dropped the kids off at school -walked to a diner (second visit this week) with friends -saw a garbage truck, a firetruck, and a train (all with friendly drivers) -and saw my priest out for a walk.

@emilykmay When I'm not drinking (pregnancy, usually), I appreciate when someone has something a little special: sparkling water with pineapple or pomegranate juice mixed in and a twist, or something like that, served in nice glassware like the cocktails I can't have 😂

@KyleJamesHoward @clay_mcch ^ this, yes, but I think the answer is also to dig into what makes life so expensive in America. It's only in the last fifty years that people needed two incomes to live a moderately fulfilling life, and we need to question that.

@BillboardChris I want more women—grown, happy women—to share their own stories of frustration/distaste with their teenage bodies, so that these girls know they aren’t alone. So many women experience this, and grow through it towards a deep love of their womanhood! I did! 💔 for this girl.

Telling teens that it's okay for them to ignore anything they find boring is signing them up for a lifetime of boredom, because often the best things are "boring"--i.e. difficult--at first. Just have decent conversations, seek to love folks, and don't give your kids phones!

It's interesting how many folks engaged with this. The loss of folk culture hits us in our hearts. Even if we don't know exactly what is missing, we know some human inheritance has not come down to us. Feasts, dances, songs, poems, plays... we all need to tell our local story.
