Farmer of malt barley, seed potatoes, I am the 6th generation of my family to farm in Idaho. Kansas City Chiefs fan.Happily married father of 2 great kids.
When you buy a used combine and the dealer says “it has been through our shop” really means we washed it and we put paper mats in the cab for you. I am into this 4K and I still need a transition cone.
How many of these are around still? Local county fair tractor show, owned by the richest guy in Idaho. It is nice that he supports local events like this.
Nothing like driving down the road to see for sale signs posted by 200 acres you have farmed for 15 years. The land owner never called us or even hinted at at selling. Now a realtor is involved 🙄Good thing it’s didn’t drop all of the big spud money on new tractors.
Rough day today, found out dad needs open heart surgery to replace a heart valve and do 2 bypasses after having a mild heart attack. Also I had to put my mom in the nursing home because dad is her care giver and she can’t live on her own. Being an only child sucks sometimes. 😕
When you call the cellar and ask for every truck that runs and can hold potatoes sometimes the rear door doesn’t get put up. Finished digging this evening in a rain storm 🥔🥔✅
We had a good family friend who was born in NE Ukraine. His family were refugees during ww2. He talked of the extreme conditions they had to survive, only the clothes on their back and very little to no food. We have it so good here in the USA. I pray for peace in the Ukraine 🇺🇦
I really wish my dad would stop taking a nap in the middle of the field in a running tractor. I seriously thought he was dead. I kind of get a bad flash back to when my grandpa was found dead at the wheel of our 1680 combine back in 1994
It’s hard to believe the attack on Pearl Harbor took place 80 years ago. It won’t be long until there won’t be any of the greatest generation living anymore. Never forget this history changing event. 🇺🇸
Today’s words to live by, when your neighbor wants to sell you ground neighboring yours BUY IT ask questions later. This ground last traded hands in the 1930’s

When the government stops messing with free trade and over regulating chemicals and labor will be the day I say I will no longer take government money. Sad to say but people in our country need to go hungry to appreciate our profession. I risk everything I have so people can eat.
I sent an old friend down the road today to a new home. We bought this 1680 used and cut with it for 19 years. The cab of this combine is where I listened to the terrible events unfold on 9/11/2001.

Farmers need trade with China and Mexico back to normal. Mexico still has a 20% tariff on frozen french fries. Also if the soybean crop does not get moving to China by spring it will be a huge disaster. I don’t like to have my livelihood used as leverage in trade negotiations.
For my Twitter peeps that get Idaho PBS, tomorrow night at 7:00 outdoor Idaho has a documentary called Spud country that has some footage filmed here in the area that I farm interviewing some friends and neighbors.
