Zelda archivist & campaigner for 20+ years. Art, books, manga, the retro & rare. Into Zelda? You've likely experienced my work but not my name: Melora She/Her
Here's a cleaned up pic of the elusive pink-haired female Link from 1986 that I scanned at 2400dpi. This illustration is from a Japanese magazine that has only been seen online as a small photo before. All 6 images will be in the Zelda art gallery soon:
OMG OMG OMG HOLY FUCK THE ZELDA BOOK I'VE BEEN TRYING TO FIND FOR 20 YEARS HAS THE MISSING FEMALE LINK/LINKA ART!!!! HOLY SHIT HOLY SHIT I FOUND IT!!! *breathes* I literally just opened the box. 2400dpi scans by Monday hopefully
I didn't this enough attention but I've wanted to find this art for 20 years. Never been online except as an auction photo! The 2 "new" pieces complete the set of 4: the other 2 we had from Nintendo Power & Tips and Tactics in the US. Look how cute!
I finally got a good source to make a high res scan this beautiful Skyward Sword Zelda done in the Breath of the Wild style for the 2018 concerts/symphony.
I love her so much
It's going to take another 2 days to upload the larger zip files but I've scanned one of my favorite guides, at 2400dpi because of all the art, and the 600dpi pdf is posted. Here is the incredible German Link to the Past guide:
I just finished compiling the highest-res possible & most complete Zelda: Minish Cap official art gallery ever online. Including 1200dpi scans I just made of some concept art that's never been online before. It's super adorable- check it all out here:
Here they are! I just made & uploaded new 1200dpi scans of one of the best Zelda publications of all time: Nintendo Player's Guide for Link's Awakening. All the art is incredible & the writing is great too, just like the LttP one. Find it here:
Just finished 1200dpi scanning one of the most incredible guides ever made for Zelda. There's so much mind-blowing art in it, including Terada's, that was never anywhere else that I can't even pick for this post & had to do features all week. Find it here:
This is beyond incredible.

Here it is! The 600dpi scans for the last, missing, full Japanese Gamebook/CYOA for the Zelda series that I know of! This one has some of the absolute best illustrations, I love them with all my heart... but is also apparently the buggiest 😆 Find it here:
These Zelda: LttP maps have never really been online before & thanks to Olga
@chaosdrifter93
they look incredible for the first time ever! The amount of work she had to do to restore the buildings covered by text blows my mind. I scanned them at 2400dpi:
Here's an adorable one of Link opening the treasure chest he found in the last illustration.
I just got these scanned, they haven't been online before: Zelda . A Link to the Past . ゼルダの伝説 . 神々のトライフォース . リンク
I just finished scanning the Japanese game manuals for the first 4 Zelda games at 2400dpi & will be editing & uploading them over the next few days. Here's the original's booklet (I'd love to go back & make Hyrule Fantasy stick as the fan-reference name)
I made 2400dpi scans of the incredible Zelda 1 Bandai board game from 1986 because the art is just so top notch that it shouldn't be lost to time! This morning I cleaned up some images to make a boss set to eventually add to the gallery:
Here's a never-seen-in-full-online before image of Hyrule's map from Zelda 1 that was also in the June 1986 issue of Newtype. Art by Takako Toshima
The image covered 3 pages and was a slightly different size on each page, with a small gap, so I did the best I could patching it
To this day this is still one of my biggest Zelda art mysteries: This is official Ocarina of Time art. It appears in the front of the US OoT game manual. I have never seen it anywhere else, including the photos of the developer's offices that show all the other art. Help? Ideas?
These scans are killing me, I love them so much. I'll try to get these done and uploaded as fast as I can (1200dpi for this guide) Zelda: A Link to the Past
Legend of Zelda Minish Cap official gallery update: Finally found a large, glossy print, of the most adorable piece ever. Scanned & uploaded it at 2400dpi. Find the full version (and the rest of the MC art) here:
This one is for you,
@WatcherJoshua
The final vol of Zelda: Twilight Princess manga by
@akirahimekawa
is out today in English! This only happened because fans & the artists pushed so hard for it for so long. Please support the amazing artists behind it & show publishers its, once again, worth listening to fans!
Here's another nice little piece of Zelda art that hasn't been online before. I just got it scanned, it's from a 1991 kid's magazine, & I like the mood & details for the caves up on Death Mountain
A Link to the Past・ゼルダの伝説・神々のトライフォース ・リンク
Here it is, the most complete & highest-rez official art gallery for
#OcarinaOfTime
ever online. I spent so much time tracking down the highest quality images & cleaning up saves and scans: Hope you enjoy it! (Let me know if I'm missing anything)
#Zelda
I just high-res scanned and uploaded the Japanese Super Famicom game manual for The Legend of Zelda: Triforce of the Gods (aka A Link to the Past.) The 2400dpi RAWs are still uploading but the lightly cleaned files are already at this link:
I just uploaded 1200dpi scans of what may be my favorite book of all time. The Nintendo Player's Guide for Zelda: A Link to the Past. If you've never flipped through this, do so! It doubles as a story book & production art book- which was so rare:
This is in my top 3 moments in 20 years as a Zelda archivist & historian: This 1986 guide has helped unlock so much missing information. We now know names of official artists & info on art beloved around the world. Including, maybe, the female Link artist:
I made another cool discovery yesterday. The artist who did my favorite Zelda map, in the German LA guide, is most likely the "Let's Find Pokemon" artist, Kazunori Aihara | 相原和典. By process of elimination using the credits his name is the most likely & it's the art that fits!
This has never been online before!
I just 2400dpi scanned & uploaded an 8 page Zelda: Link to the Past 神々のトライフォース manga by Noboru Sakaoka 坂丘のぼる from Shogaku Ninensei, February 1992. Find it here:
Here's a 2400dpi scan of the 2nd out of 6 illustrations of female Link (or hero Zelda!) from some Japanese magazine coverage from way back in 1986. As I get these cleaned up I'll be adding them to the flickr archive, here:
Here's some more absolutely awesome & rare Hyrule Fantasy (Zelda 1) art from the 1986 Bandai board game that I just uploaded. This style is just so freakn' cute!
Fans made it possible to play the game too. Info for it is under each image in the gallery:
Got a new (old) Japanese Zelda: Link to the Past guide scanned and uploaded at 1200dpi. It has the maps and art, that I posted over the last few days, in a separate zip at 2400dpi:
I also added the art to the flickr gallery:
I 2400dpi scanned the 2 Japanese Zelda: BotW artbook pages, that show the lost concept art of Link & his family, & what appears to be him & the same girl/his sister?
These have been online as photos, I just wanted to have better images. Full pages here:
"Hey, Melora, what's your favorite piece of Link art?"
"Just the one that screams "The Secret Ingredient is Crime""
Finally getting around to archival scanning this Zelda 1 guide and I couldn't be happier about it.
One more little set today of this Zelda art that had never been scanned before. Link fighting Trinexx! I really love these. The artist is skilled with such nice linework and form.
From a magazine for younger children. A Link to the Past . ゼルダの伝説 . 神々のトライフォース
This is a rare Zelda piece I've been wanting to repair, any image editors out there want a 700MB psd project while I scan other things?
@IkhanaKingdom
sent me scans of a poster that has more image on the sides &
@RupaKoopaTroopa
sent me a folder that doesn't have crease warping
A couple of days ago
@AbelMunizJr
scanned these incredibly rare Zelda LttP story illustrations at 1200dpi for all of us He kindly said I could upload the files so I collected them here:
The artist is Junichiro Saito / 斎藤純一郎 💖
Here are the scans for The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past manga that was featured in Shogaku Ichinensei issues, from 05/1992 to 09/1992. It seems I'm missing one issue, but I'm sure it will eventually surface.
Direct scans here and thread below:

The art in the Zelda: LttP guide I'm scanning right now is absurd. I fucking love this one so much. I can't wait to be done and share it with all of you.
My German Link's Awakening guide is pretty beat-up on the outside... but it's awesome what you can do in photoshop.
I should be done with this and have it uploaded by tomorrow
Here's the last of this set! I just 2400dpi scanned & uploaded the Zelda: Link's Awakening, ゼルダの伝説 夢をみる島, Japanese game manual. Find it here:
Feels so good to have these done. Now I'm moving back on to retro strategy guides & rare publications
I've been adding old strategy guide maps to the gallery for Zelda: A Link to the Past, slowly building up the map collection for the old games: Here's a new one!
Also write & call your representatives for a

I just added full scans (never online before!) of this 1992 Zelda: LttP novel by Katsuyuki Ozaki for the Futabasha Fantasy Novel Series. The art in this one is pretty wild & you're the Hero of Hyrule, descendant of Hyrea (I'll go with Hylia)... Paul!
Just scanned & uploaded the Japanese famicom Zelda II Adventure of Link manual at 2400dpi:
I'm editing the next one but if you like this then also check out this official AoL guide that's packed full of art not found anywhere else:
A typical Hyrulean, Hylian, man according to the 1992 Zelda: Link to the Past Official Player's Guide. (This is just an updated image from newer scans)
Full-sized image:
And the full page with the fun info is here:
Finally uploading some of my favorite Zelda 1 (Hyrule Fantasy) art! This is the box art cover for a 1986 Bandai board game. I love it so much!
It was mainly cleaned by Alberto Vitali and is also playable online. More info at the link:
As far as I could see, no one has ever made really good scans of this Nintendo Power Zelda II: The Adventure of Link map and then cleaned it up, so that's what I'm in the middle of right now. The original is 48,000 wide at 2400dpi
Guys, wow! This is incredible
@IkhanaKingdom
just sent scans of some of the most beautiful merchandise art for Hyrule Fantasy (Zelda 1) & I've never seen it before in my life. This is probably the first time it's been online besides an auction photo. Famicom Puzzle box art:
Okay everyone, I just need to ask: what exactly is this from? It's in Hyrule Historia, obviously, but it's in none of the original printed material. A wiki ID'd it as "the 1994 Japanese NES Port" but I haven't seen it in item auction listings. Was it made for a '94 magazine ad?
Hey new visitors!💖If you don't know, I'm re-scanning my whole out-of-print Zelda collection (this is just some of it) to make beautiful archival copies; which is also so I can continue to compile the most complete & highest res Zelda art gallery possible:
Continuing with the lesser know
@KatsuyaTerra
Zelda-art kick: I have always loved the extremely peaceful moment between Link & Marin & this captures it so beautifully. It's also rare to see Terada drawing Link's face this closely or serenely
This is a rare hand-drawn LttP Dark World map that I'll fix up later. It's beautiful!
I've decided to just scan the rare Zelda art in the guide for now because it's thousands of pages & I was getting a little paralyzed looking at the amount of work they'd be with a flatbed
Here's the last piece of art (6/6) from the Shonen Captain Legend of Zelda feature from 1986, that shows a female Link or a protagonist Zelda. All of them can be found at 2400dpi, including the unaltered raws, in our the main gallery collection:
Here's a 2400dpi scan of the 3rd out of 6 illustrations of female Link (or hero Zelda!) from some Japanese magazine coverage from way back in 1986. As I get these cleaned up I'll be adding them to the flickr archive, here:
I'm currently making archival scans of the German Link's Awakening guide & it has some of the lesser known Katsuya Terada Zelda art in it. I love it so much that I'll probably be sharing it as I go.
In the meantime here are my old scans of the whole book:
IT'S FINALLY HERE! I thought EMS lost it at sea! I've wanted this for years & now I can finally get 2400dpi, no bleed-through, scans of this glorious Zelda art online. The map of Hyrule has never been scanned before as far as I know. Newtype Magazine, June 1986
Does anyone know what source these Zelda: MC pieces were originally published in? I'm trying to locate it so I can get less jpgy versions online. It appears to be English speaking because of the printed text in no 1:
For the first time ever, here's a fully restored high-res version of the Nintendo Power Zelda II: The Adventure of Link poster-map. I'm currently uploading the 2400dpi scans here:
More restored Zelda maps in the gallery:
Lesser-known
@KatsuyaTerra
Zelda art appreciation post! I'm currently making new archival scans of the German Link's Awakening guide and can't keep my love of these to myself. This is one of my favs
In the meantime my old scans of the guide are here:
Since I made new scans of this Zelda board game: I cleaned off all the random text & replaced the old file. It's such a pretty piece I might try to remove the logo one day too. 1200dpi clean image here:
2400dpi clean image here:
This has never been online before! I just made 1200dpi scans of the "Perfect Zelda Fan Book," a small guide for LttP with adorable illustrations & short manga for each of the first 3 games. We see Link with a fairy companion before the appearance of Navi:
I've uploaded my 600dpi scans of, what I'm told, is an absolutely incredible Choose Your Own Adventure gamebook from 1986, The Mirage Castle. Yes, that is Zelda, and you do play as her too, and Ganon has a younger brother, General Gaia~ I love it
A little history flashback: Aonuma said in an interview that
@AkiraHimekawa
's Ocarina of Time manga characters, the Watatara from their bonus chapter, inspired the Rito when they were trying to think of a new race for the Wind Waker.
Just a few more where I continue the lesser-known
@KatsuyaTerra
Zelda-art thread (I'm making archival scans of the book rn) This is probably the most iconic of the batch. It's more likely that people have seen this but if not: I think it's just an absolutely incredible one
Here is an absolutely beautiful Hyrule Fantasy (Zelda 1) map from the same Bandai board game that I just posted. This set has incredible art. I'll make higher res scans at a later date but this was mainly cleaned by Alberto Vitali & then I did some too:
I love the way the eye beams are drawn in this Link to the Past art.
I'm currently trying to get a bunch of random small scanning projects done for the rarer Zelda art. This has never been online before (as far as I know, unless you count the photos I just took a few weeks ago)
After decades all 4 volumes of the LttP "Oath of Riruto" Zelda manga are finally in English! This is one of the wildest off-shoots of the series: drawn by a DBZ fan artist turned actual series production artist. Head here to find the scanlation links!
There was a gatekeeping post going around & I just want to remind people that Link has a fairy spell & turns into this in Zelda 2. 1-3 are canon, 4 is from a licensed guide
I will never understand why some can't be happy if others have their own personal connection to the series
This is nuts, everyone: I just got a preventive mastectomy (family history though we don't have the known BRCA genes) & I just found out, today, I actually had breast cancer & the mammogram I had done 2 weeks ago missed it. Because I had the surgery I did I'm clear of cancer! ❤️
Revisiting archival scans of Mirage Castle! A 1986 Gamebook (CYOA) & technically the 3rd Zelda "game" that we know of. Likely wildly popular bc of the numerous reprints. You play as both Link (day) & Zelda (night)
Summary:
Scans:
I have 26 volumes of 4koma manga scanned for the Zelda series & they seem truly underappreciated. While only one is fully translated much of the humor is self-explanatory to fans. If you find yourself with a few moments, give em a shot, pick one & dive in:
I didn't realize the full volume may not have been online: This is where the German Ocarina of Time comics are from but there's also an interview in there as well. I did some rough 600dpi scans to get it to someone and will do better scans later. Enjoy!
Continuing the lesser-known
@KatsuyaTerra
Zelda-art-that-I-love posts, while I scan and edit the German Link's Awakening guide to get it ready for upload, this is probably the sweetest one out of all of the pieces he's ever done. He's finally back home and they both look so happy
My absence: My mom is now in end-of-life care (cancer.) I'm staying with her 24/7 & it may be 2-3 months before I'm around.
TotK has been my meditation between caregiving. I'm ok. Love you all & keep being kind, fierce, & supportive to yourselves & the world around you.
lol, I was scanning random series images from old magazine adverts and this little Peter Pan Chicken Nugget appeared. I guess this is one way to interpret Link and Zelda
I'm finally chipping away at redoing/replacing/adding missing 2400dpi scans to the gallery for all the retro art for the original Legend of Zelda (which I like to call Hyrule Fantasy) You can find the most recent uploads here:
Mind blown! This Pyramid of Power is, imho, a lost piece of actual official Zelda: LttP art that would belong to the manual art set. I have only ever seen it in this one Famimaga (thanks
@Kobun20
for id'ing the issue for me) Made a 2400dpi scan + info:
Just woke up from surgery and everything feels normal! Thanks for all the well wishes, guys! Scratch 4 generations of breast cancer off my list of concerns! Not going to be the 5th.
Cross your fingers! I think I finally found the Newtype issue with this Zelda art in it & it's on the way. If so I'll get 1200dpi scans online for us, finally! Haruhiko Mikimoto is also one of my favorite artists, I use to have so many of his posters, so this is special for me.
Wow, just hit 10k followers! I've been doing this 20+ years but have only been active on Twitter for just over 2 & it has been such an incredible experience. It really nitro-boosted finding lost publications, art, & making translations. Thank you all for your help & enthusiasm!
I'm currently scanning this one-shot Link to the Past Zelda manga that hasn't been online before and, guys, I... lol
But also those rats are just really great. Like this art is actually REALLY good but, lol, this one panel, I just.. XD
Archival scans now posted for one of the cutest volumes of Zelda 4koma manga: I love the art in this so much. This was published by Kobunsha in 1999 so, unlike other Link's Awakening ones, you'll see gags for things like the photos. Enjoy:
I got another super rare find in that was completely lost to time until now! It's just a few short pages of a larger recap for Zelda: LttP in a Nintendo kid's magazine. (I'll scan it next) Here are some of the other parts; only missing 2 issues now:
Archival scans now up for The Legend of the Black Triforce! This Zelda II: Adventure of Link Gamebook has some really awesome illustrations. IMPO Link is really handsome in it & the cover looks so much like late 90's art of LttP Link: but it's from 1987!
Made more 2400dpi scans of Zelda content & manga that has never been online before! This is from a detachable appendix in a children's magazine from 1986. The artist is Yukio Sawada of Mario manga fame.
Bonus feature on.. TURTLES! Find it here:
I just added some incredibly gorgeous Zelda Concert promotional art scans to the gallery. These are 1200-600dpi scans sent in by
@IkhanaKingdom
from her impressive collection and feature Skyward Sword Zelda and Ocarina of Time Link in the BotW art style!
Guys... I found something else that's never been online before; basically lost for decades until now. This is a bonus poster from the '86 Wanpakku comics Ran Maru Zelda manga & I love it for so many reasons. I posted why, more info, & 2400dpi scans here:
An incredible restoration on this now-rare Zelda art from the 80's. Nearly extinct from the internet
@JTaylorPro
had to combine a poster & folder for the image. It's the best its looked since the poster was printed
The art may be from DiC prior to production of the 1989 cartoon
I just finished archival-scanning this Zelda 1 guide that Mases of
@ZeldaDungeon
sent me. We both have a bunch of the old guides but he has been going out of his way to make sure they're not lost too!
There's some really fun, cute, art in this one:
If anyone wants a full image of the map, it's in the gallery. Thank you for liking it! The guide is actually missing the art from the middle section, since it's a fold out, so I re-drew & repaired it as best I could:
I just finished uploading the first Legend of Zelda Majora's Mask 4koma manga that I've made archival scans of! These are all so cute. This one was published by Enix in 2008, check it out here:
ゼルダの伝説ムジュラの仮面
Here's another rare piece of Zelda art that hasn't been cleaned up, or really online, before! I LOVE this map
@That_black_lynx
did most of the work fixing this up (thank you!) & I uploaded a bunch of versions here:
& here:
More maps & fun art from the Zelda: LttP guide I'm scanning for upload:

I'm so excited I was able to find more of the original 2-tone color pages for the first full Zelda manga: The 4 volumes by Ranmaru. They're just so beautiful. This is for the first chapter of the Adventure of Link. Look at the difference! & read them here:
Here's one of the coolest
@KatsuyaTerra
Zelda pieces that can only be found in the German Link's Awakening guide. This one is just so wildly good
I'm currently making new archival scans of the whole thing but until I'm done you can find my old scans here:
I never thought I'd even be able to see this. I have found, & 2400dpi scanned, the color pages of the very first issue of the very first Zelda manga ever. They're in black & white in the collected vol. Ran Maru, June 1986. A translation is also available:
2 new 1200dpi scans! Both have been online but I wanted higher quality scans for the gallery, so here they are! Big files are still uploading but Club Nintendo Classic has great artwork. Zelda art at 2400dpi:
& Sticker Fun is here:
I just finished high-res scanning & editing this Zelda 1 guide from 1986 & this honestly has some of my favorite enemy art ever done for the series. The Moblins, Tektite, Gohma, Lanmola, & Vire are just so cool looking. Simple but big map. Find it here:
I've just uploaded the 2400dpi scans I made of this beautiful but short Zelda: Link to the Past manga by Nintendo Player's Guide artist Matsunori Iwamoto | 岩本松徳. It's found in the "Zelda Handbook" by Keibunsha and has never been online before. Enjoy:
OK! Back to scanning rare old-school Japanese Zelda guides. This one has some super fun art that I simply love. The enemies are so expressive! I'm doing it really high-res so they're preserved as well as they can be forever. 1986, Jitsugyo no Nihon Sha:
